Download booster is on my Verizon device, I use it constantly. I have always on data turned on and have my wifi on. But it looks to me like sometimes it works and sometimes it only uses wifi or mobile data even if the file or app is over a gig and it shows download booster is running. Not sure why that is but I will figure it out soon.

Has anyone successfully gotten setExactAndAllowWhileIdle (Alarm Manager) to work reliably? I'm making an alarm clock app and it's pretty important to have the alarm fire at the desired time. I'm using the Alarm Manager to call a Service which I then call startForeground() immediately in the on Create() method and request a wakeLock(). I'm using it to chime on the hour and half hour. I invariably miss two or three alarms a day. Sometimes I won't get an alert for a couple hours and then magically it will start working again.

I think this might be related to battery conservation but everything I've read says that setExactAndAllowWhileIdle will ALWAYS trigger at the desired time (plus or minus a few milliseconds).

I'm happy to provide more info but I'm not looking for anyone to write my code for me. I just want a friendly nudge in the right direction.

I should mention that this seems to work properly in the emulator but not on real-world devices. I've tested it with a Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 and a Google Pixel C Tablet and both exhibit the problem I've described.

I'm not sure right now. I know that Sprint Backup on my Galaxy 8+ has a similar icon to what you've mentioned (MacOS "time machine") but this phone is under Verizon. Thanks a lot. This was a really helpful post.

I know. And it sucks!

My favorite dogs, Great Danes, being giants, have the shortest lifespan of all dogs. Lifespan in dogs is inversely proportional to their size....which is just so unfair.

I have discovered if I open an app, like gas buddy, and request directions to a location Here maps will open. However when on a website, even one that is showing a location on Bing maps, google.com/maps opens. Bing maps will start to open for a split second then google maps takes over. I can't figure out how to stop it from doing that. I am using Edge and Bing as my browser and search engine.

On my old phone, a wonderful windows phone, worked just like my pc. When I look up location on the web the default map program opens. My 4+ year old windows phone did so much more than this brand new Note 10+ does. It took better pictures too.

Well for that the only one of your specifications that matters is that I'd not buy one with a very old android version, just to be sure that you won't have an app incompatibility problem in the near future. Otherwise almost any tablet will handle that usage: there's no great demand on the cpu, streaming doesn't require a lot storage, most will have perfectly adequate screen resolution (unless you have young eyes and hold it close to your face), and if you are in bed I doubt it even needs to be very bright. You don't say what your sound preferences are (speakers, wired headphones or wireless), but it's only the first of those will vary much (an audiophile may differ, but these don't sound like audiophile uses).

I guess what I'm saying is that you don't require top-end specs for that purpose, or even anything close. I'd avoid devices with only 16GB storage unless you really are going to use it for nothing other than streaming video, because that's been below minimum spec for a while now. But otherwise I'd buy whatever you like and feel comfortable with (in every sense, i.e. feels OK to hold the way you will use it, quality feels good enough and price doesn't feel uncomfortably high). I do always recommend seeing the device yourself if you can, rather than relying on spec sheets or reviews.

I'm having a similar problem with the netshare app but it won't allow me to connect to my hotspot with my LG Stylo 4 or my K8s because of the built in vpn. Anyone have any idea how to resolve this issue?

Yes my Location History is on.

Found out the solution -

Google Maps - > My Timeline - Settings Menu (3 dots) -> Select Location History (doesn't matter if it is on of off) -> Click down arrow next to "Devices on this account". Make sure that your device is selected.

Worked for me!!

I'm also pretty sure that in order to use the play store you have to agree to allow Google to do all that data collection.

hmmmmm not sure on the app as i use my pc most of the time. also on my phone, i always use chrome. i never really liked using the app, but that is just me. its the same on the browser. just select your avatar and select "alert preferences".

all of those look like system apps.....nothing to worry about.
