Thanks for the suggestion, sadly all the trustworthy looking options for split screen don't work even with Dev tools enabled.
I have had this feature through 3 separate phones manufacturers and 6 models. Motorola on a deffy and edge, Sony experix 12, z, xz and the Asus Rog phone 3.it seams bizarre to rework a took that has been around and worked near flawlessly for so long for a mostly core Android experience from all of these distros.

And I wouldn't dare go back to my other device as I replaced it despite being relatively new due to what I can only asume is a CPU hitch or ram issue.
If I had more than 3 apps in tray any media being played had a chance to just frezze, requiering me to pull down the notification bar to re-initate the app.it was one hell of an annoying bug.
It could happen as many as 15 times in a 3 min video.

A general Search in Settings for "physical keyboard", "external keyboard", or just "keyboard" SHOULD get you there, or perhaps direct browsing thru all Accessibility settings (as in my phone), or another Hardware Settings/Phone Customization app (quickly found one in Google Play, but it wasn't free, around $3).

Thanks for the replies. I've tried rebooting a couple times, no difference. I just tried resetting network & all else, no difference. The router is an older N150 Netgear WNR1000v2, but again all other devices connect fine. At this point I'm going to go over to the public library tomorrow & see if it connects there & if not try it on the work wifi, if still nogo I'll probably return it. Been using Tracfone for about 15 years, have had scores of them, never this issue, though I'm not positive I ever tried going to wifi before activating the Tracfone calling account. That shouldn't matter, I would think.

If it is software, try either rebooting the phone or factory reset it. Not much else you can do. Your last option is to take the phone in to a repair shop.

I found advice that says to take off the back cover, remove the battery, and hold down the power button for thirty seconds. I guess that might work. What size(s) screwdriver does that take? How do I make sure the thing is off completely?

+1 for Blokada. I've been using it for a long time and it's quite effective, easy to set up and use and doesn't kill the battery.
In the past I did get it from F-Droid but there have been some issues with the versions available there, it's best to get it directly from their site at https://blokada.org/
I would recommend using Blokada 5, which is free and works using lists downloaded to your phone. Blokada 6 is cloud-based and requires a subscription.

bq was well-known in Europe, but there are no major updates anymore for android 8.01 at least not from bq. It's 5 yrs old and it's my wife's who has no idea what happened. It has Everything on it b/c she uses it more than her laptop and I doubt that she's backed up anything. What interests me is the app, which I can't find anywhere and it doesn't give any info. I can move all over the screen, but as soon as I press it, it disappears and a grey horizontal bar scans up and down the screen. I'm going to try to transfer what's on her phone to an *empty' sony xperia XA2 and hope the transfer, if it works, doesn't export the distortions into the the Xperia. Can't chuck this thing until I can recover its info.

so the a52 does not support wireless charging. you will need an charge adapter the plugs into the usb c port. you will then need a case to portect and hold the adapter in place on the back of the phone. one of the problems will be that the usb port is now occupied and unplugging the adapter can be difficult to do.

this is the best one i can find on amazon. but some have said that you will need to remove the case in order to unplug the adapter.

My $30 Aukey dash camera doing exactly the same what I need, and even has mini HDMI out. I will think if I can hook it up with any 7-10" display or laptop. But none on Android or iOS market, it's a big surprise, I thought that in modern world everything already exists.-)

I think this is because Camera app on mobile is very complex and require some proprietary legal stuff, so all slow-mo apps I tried use native camera app for actual recording, then you need to <load video> for play or edit.
