UNKOWN not UNKNOWN

My phone is Xiaomi Redmi Note 5. The Assistant for Android was installed fom Play Store. The snapshot is a page shown by the Assistant while tapping the button and not a page from phone settings. I can't understand why it shows battery usage 0.19% when that app is not existing in installed applications. In the phone settings battery usage, no such app is shown. Anyhow thanks to mikedt and Hadron.

Both that phone and app do come from China, and occasionally these things do have misspellings and grammatical errors in them, hence the "UNKOWN".

Accessories Recommend A USB C Charging And Speaker Station

Sorry to sound dense.

This is my first new phone in a long time.

I found a manual for the Celero 5G. It has a diagram of the phone that points to the USB jack on the bottom of the phone. It is labeled as USB C.

This is the docking station I am interested in. It is advertised as USB C

In the picture you can see there is a jack on the docking station to put the phone on. My concern is whether or not it will fit my phone ( new model, only several months old ).

My guess is THAT is a USB C jack for the USB C port on my phone.

Do I have that correct?

What is the name of the plugs on USB phone cables that are bigger that fit into computers?

Help Something has changed in Android 12

Yeah, that Google Play Instant is some sneaky crap.

I trust NOTHING Google and this is definitely one that I rid any device of immediately.

Not only is there the setting that @Madd61 mentioned, there is an app as well- one that Google PlayStore will download automatically if PlayStore is not disabled entirely- each time the device gets a 'security update' (code for "Google wants to mess with your device").
It is called Google Instant Apps.

I am not sure if it is prevented from downloading if you have autoupdate turned off, but it seems that even with this setting off the stupid thing would reappear at random (whenever Google messed with my device at 2AM) and disabling the PlayStore altogether was the bullet proof solution.

Boot fastboot

I'm hoping the correct answer is 1. Even if it is, how do I get out of it? I have never deliberately used fastboot and I sure don't want it now. I think that horrible concave power button might have caused it somehow. I want to get out of fastboot and stay out of it, at least for now.

"Is upgrading to a newer device an option?"

...............................
From what I have learned about android, it seems to me to be a design disaster. ........................

I agree with everything you have written. I am still learning the basics of Android and how to reduce the bloatware and (to me) useless applications which tend to get in the way of my apparently minimal requirements.
Thanks for posting.

Now think about how stupid window$ is compared to *nix. ......................

Hear, hear! My thoughts exactly!

I use this fun app on my phones, UserLAnd, which lets you run various Linux distros. .................

Thanks for posting that; I will give it a try.

.................... If I may ask your opinion, Pros and Cons using Linux vs Windows? Just General info, please

General info you ask? For starters it is tidy and efficient, where Microsoft Windows is messy and inefficient.
It is secure and can be tailored to suit a wide range of user requirements and needs.
Downloads, including chosen operating system updates, can be done simultaneously while the computer is in normal use.
In my experience, I have not found a limit to the number of downloads that can be performed simultaneously.
Finally, it provides a high degree of choice and independence.

It should not be considered to be a "plug and play" kind of operating system that Windows is (kind of). Linux requires some participation in the choice of distribution and the installation of certain required software.
In my case, (Linux Mint since 2014 New Year's Day) the adoption of Linux has accelerated my understanding of computer software beyond all previous expectations. Largely due to good forum support.

Thanks for this thread and to all contributors.

Jim.

Trongle S2 (MXQ clone)

Thanks for the rapid reply.

I don't think I have tried resetting it so I'll have to back it up to SD card or USB stick and give it a go. My 3 smart phones run Lollipop and don't have this problem.

I think it's the version of Lollipop that's causing the problem. Need to try other versions from SD/USB or alternative OS such as ARM based Linux. Any other OS I could try? Any diagnostic software for Android or Linux etc or something I could boot from SD/USB to test the h/w?

Device freezes

Android device freezes and never goes past the galaxy A520F Android logo screen. I've tried to Wipe out the cache and do factory reset, saw this message "E:Failed to clear BCB message:failed to find /misc partition"
phone's done.....if the partition where the os resides is corrupted and you do not have usb debugging turned on, then there is nothing you can do.

unless:
if you do have usb debugging turned and you can get into fastboot mode you might be able to flash a firmware update from here: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/

Help Android mt65xx - s13

All the apps do not work on it except a few, I sent a link of one of the apps that work:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1RzVQmvpDoXsShXmuSh8rwwVoyTn66hLZ/view?usp=sharing

And it does not work:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1w6f6anySoKrVk8bf07u7n-IK8Im40_fV/view?usp=sharing

And if it works for me I can re-edit the build.prop file and everything will work out:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1rRWIapdLIOf3NhVO1KPxFkqC4hFWvAMT/view?usp=sharing

Maybe you can edit the latter to be like the first in the signature or something similar
