How to decrypt microSD after factory reset? I have all the family memories in the Camera folder!

.....
Moving forward, just install Google photos from the play store and set it to back up your photos and videos....

This point has cannot be emphasized enough, it's really vital to implement a backup solution for any smartphone. As you've discovered, it is a really risky thing to rely on storing important files solely on your phone. Smartphones are intended to be mobile and handy, two aspects that make them unreliable as long-term archiving storage. Even if you had never encrypted your microSD card nor did a Factory Reset, the odds are just high that something is likely to occur with your phone -- it gets lost, or stolen, or damaged.

The Google Photos app does include a backup and restore function that automatically runs in the background. It will backup your entire photo library into your online Google account so you can access your photos and videos using either the Google Photos app on your phone, or a web browser on a computer by going to:
https://photos.google.com
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.photos&hl=en_US&gl=US
If you install Google Photos, be sure to go into the app's Settings menu and configure the backup and restore function the way you need it (i.e. include video content, use WiFi/cellular or WiFi only, etc.). And recently Google changed its long-standing policy on unlimited free storage for photo content, now you get 15GB of storage for free, and if you need more than it isn't that much -- 100GB is only $20 a year.
https://one.google.com/about/plans
Just for comparison, Microsoft's OneDrive and Apple's iCloud online storage is only 5GB for free so their pay-for upgrades tend to be more of a necessity. It's all conditional though, for some 15GB is a quite a bit, for others it's barely adequate.

A different option than Google Photos is to use Samsung's Smart Switch utility. It has a backup and restore option that allows you to do more extensive backups to a PC. So it's not limited to just photo and video content but essentially your entire user account on your phone.

One last suggestion if you want to minimize a reliance on services that involve a lot of corporate oversight, like from Google or Samsung, is the Syncthing service.
It's an Open Source (no ties to any business interests) syncing service that you set up to sync directories you specify with different storage media in mobile devices, computers, online storage servers. You can set it up to only work within your home network (no online storage) or with various online storage services. It's quite versatile but it also requires one to pay a lot of attention to set things up the way you want.

Mods [Guide]How to flash a Nexus Factory Image manually.

I tried this process to restore my 2013 Nexus 7. It all goes fine until my tablet tries to boot after the factory image is flashed, after which it get to the "Google" screen (white writing, unlocked symbol at the bottom) & then boot loops. Do you have any idea what may be causing this & what I can to do fix it?

Provided that you flashed the correct image ("razor" for the Wi-Fi-only 2013 Nexus 7, "razorg" for the one which has a cellular data connection), I'm afraid that likely indicates some manner of hardware failure.

Hiring developer to help me unbann my phone

Did you try using a VPN?
If you are using the same Wi-Fi as when you were banned, your visible information is probably the same as on any device.

A VPN can mask your location.

Even if this works, often enough it is not productive to continue on in groups where you are not wanted.

Even if it is coming from only one moderator.

There is too much else to do in life than get hung up on such things.

HELP How to adapat screen size of a Relative Layout videoView

Hi, for an app that is a Video Player, I want to create a button that stretches the video to the edges of the screen. I have made a RelativeLayout :

Java:
<VideoView
        android:id="@+id/video_view"
        android:keepScreenOn="true"
        android:layout_width="fill_parent"

        android:layout_alignParentRight="true"
        android:layout_alignParentLeft="true"
        android:layout_alignParentTop="true"
        android:layout_alignParentBottom="true"
        android:layout_height="fill_parent"/>

and the code for the button :

Java:
case R.id.videoView_track:

            DisplayMetrics metrics1 = new DisplayMetrics();
            getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay().getMetrics(metrics1);
            android.widget.RelativeLayout.LayoutParams initialParams = (android.widget.RelativeLayout.LayoutParams) videoView.getLayoutParams();

            if (clickCount==1){
                initialParams.alignWithParent = true;
                videoView.setLayoutParams(initialParams);
                clickCount=0;
            }
            else if (clickCount==0){
                DisplayMetrics metrics = new DisplayMetrics();
                getWindowManager().getDefaultDisplay().getMetrics(metrics);
                android.widget.RelativeLayout.LayoutParams params = (android.widget.RelativeLayout.LayoutParams) videoView2.getLayoutParams();
                params.width = metrics.widthPixels;
                params.height = metrics.heightPixels;
                params.leftMargin = 0;
                params.addRule(RelativeLayout.CENTER_IN_PARENT, RelativeLayout.TRUE);

                videoView.setLayoutParams(params);
                clickCount=1;
            }
            break;
    }

The "else" part works, the video is first stretched and when i click the button it adapts to the screen size without stretching but I don't know how to do the contrary (the "if part"), how to kind of reset the params...

Thanks for your help

Is it possible to programmatically measure methods CPU time? (not execution time)

I have an application that uses OpenCV to process images from the camera in real-time. The processing consists of several steps, wrapped in separate methods like filtering, thresholding, etc. I would like to have an estimate of CPU time used by each of the methods to make an estimate of their energy consumption. I know that I could do something like

Java:
public long filter(Mat input) {
   long time = System.elapsedRealtime();

   ...

   return System.elapsedRealtime() - time;
}

to get the execution time of each method call but I think since I'd like to correlate it with energy consumption it would not be precise enough. Is there some way to maybe get the total CPU time of the current process? (I know in Android Studio's Energy Profiler I could trace CPU time of methods but I wanted to know if this is achievable at runtime programmatically)

Obamaphone service - through VIrgin Mobile - Annoying Ads

Checked your link. Found "Online" and "Oklahoma" but no Obama anything.
They were called "Obamaphones" because that's when they started the program. They are paid for with the "Lifeline" program that helps/helped people with their land lines. If you dump the Obamaphone, you can still have the credit applied to your landline instead.

Samsung Settles Note 4 Class Action

This is all ancient history, just like the Note 7 was. Is there any new Samsung smart-phone news?

Yes, plenty! I try to keep this thread up to date, but August 11 and 11 AM Eastern is the next Unpacked Event for awesome new stuff:
https://androidforums.com/threads/note20-the-last-of-the-note-series.1327714/page-2

And while it's ancient history, litigation takes years in some cases: this was one of them, because Samsung continued to file motions to dismiss. The courts kept denying the motions, finding merit in the case based on compelling evidence.

What? Class Action Lawsuit? I didn't get any money

If you did not sign on as a plaintiff member of the class, you would not. But this was years ago... water under the bridge. That's why I get emails from Top Class Actions, so I know what's going on. The Note 4 isn't the only consumer product knowingly sold with critical faults.

Android Front Camera Replacement

Short answer: no.

Long answer: the camera would have to fit physically, be 100% compatible electronically, and would have to be 100% compatible with the phone's firmware (which was built for the particular camera that the manufacturer installed). Mobile devices aren't PCs: if you change the camera the OS won't recognise that the hardware has changed, identify the camera model, search for a driver and install it. What it will do is try to interact with it as if it was the original camera, and almost certainly crash whatever app tries to use it.

You would probably have more luck trying to find out whether the phone can drive an external webcam via the USB port (I don't know, I've never heard of anyone try, but I've also never looked to see whether anyone has).

Edit: the thread merge since I posted this has changed the post I was replying to, making it read less like the question is actually about replacing the front camera. Hence I think large parts of this answer don't apply to the current question, but can't be bothered to try to rework. I still don't have an answer, and do not think that you'll be able to trick the installed camera app into using a USB camera in place of the front-facing camera, which I think is what's actually being asked.

Phone locks up. UGH!

I was wondering where the old Moto Help app had gone to on my E6 Plus. Its now called Device Help and it's still there on mine. It may be of no use but could lead to online support, I think.

I did a search earlier and the Motorola and Lenovo support forums had nothing similar, just start up freezing.

(My older E6 Plus is on 1 June patch btw)

How does this scam work?

Yup.
That is what scammers count on- mimmicking the behavior of legitimate businesses.

My father stopped doing business over the phone entirely.

He never got scammed, but that never stops them from trying.

So all legitimate businesses are told that no one in the house does any business over the phone.
They no longer call, and when we get calls like that we know that it's a scam.
Yeah, I stopped answering calls a long time ago, except as outlined in this thread, i.e., when I'm in the mood to have a little fun. :o

Any call I don't recognize, I just ignore and let it go to voice mail. There my message tells them there's no point in calling back repeatedly, and that the only way they're going to talk to a human being is by leaving their name and number. The ONLY ones who do are legitimate people.

I've had 20+ calls per day, for weeks on end, and I can't explain how annoying that is. Recently, for whatever reason, they've slacked off to *only* about 5-10 per day. :rolleyes:

Stop Redirects, Possible??

Dang I just knew you were going to say DDG. Like Google,DDG another I prefer Not to use. Even though Amazon not as bad as Google is, still prefer not just Handing over my personal info. Since posting this request, I tried over 15 different "Private" browsers, dozens of "ad blocking"browsers on top of prior browsers.couple of ad blockers (blockade,Ad blocker+) so far nothing worth noting really works against redirects. Curiously I went with the redirects just see results.197 redirects in a row. Probably been more but a sister found out I was using Her phone for this and took it back. and damn you talk about being mad.. what? You didn't actually think I would risk MY PHONE did you?? Seriously?!!

Notice how I used the words 'SEARCH ENGINE' and not 'APP'?

I do not use DDG browser or app.
I use DDG search engine on a browser of my choice.

The browser is my choice in browser because I have yet to have any other demonstrate such speed, security, and customization.

I also already told you that ad-blockers are virtually useless against redirects.
That is why redirects exist.

The only way I have found to get rid of the majority is to block the IP of the redirect and/or use a browser that is fast enough and allows you to be fast enough to go around or get behind the redirect.

Also, these bastard redirects can even be hidden in your browser cookies, and so they can even follow you from site to site and reappear over and over.

Also, do not discount what I said about how some sites use the best thumbnails to get clicks on them- and there (disappointingly) is no video or gallery even linked at all- only more redirects, full page popups, etc.

This is all part of the game.
You CAN choose to avoid sites that do such things, as there are plenty that do not.

A thing you may want to try is a VPN.
A decent one will mask your location, so you can at least avoid local advertising and redirects.

Help Samsung Tablet wifi and Ethernet

Ok, I have bene able to enable it for ethernet and wifi (i had to put junk addresses in the DNS and Gateway), Now i just need to find a remote tool like VNC server.

Edit:
And mission complete. With the junk details in the gateway for the ethernet, it uses wifi(DHCP) for internet. DroidVNC-NG as the VNC server on the tablet. I can reach the tablet from the LAN and test the internet network experience using the WiFi without utilizing it's bandwidth or relying on it actually working at that time.

sorry for clogging up your forum but i couldn't find the answer anywhere. It just needed more experimenting.
