Hi ocnbrze, thanks for your reply. I wasn't very clear about the keyboard - the phone has a physical keyboard so the virtual one is useless. I'd like to disable it but the OS seems highly customised and many normal android functions are not available.
I suspected that rooting wouldnt be possible. Oh well, thanks anyway.

Hey folks! Thank you so much and I'm terribly sorry for the delayed reply. My car broke down and honestly it's been taking all my attention. But all's well that ends well!
You're absolutely right, that is how I configured my SD card. It's important that I have my SD encrypted because I use my phone in HIPAA contexts. I avoid having protected information on my phone, but I don't take chances. I had just sort of assumed that the SD would be mounted through the phone somehow but retrospectively that was pretty presumptuous.

I think your answer does answer the original question as presented, because I could simply reformat--but is there a solution that doesn't involve leaving the SD unencrypted?

Regarding the cloud based solution, it also answers the question as asked. I avoid cloud sync for the same reason I'm not wild about unencrypting my SD, but it's not like my photos contain HIPAA data...so maybe that would work. If nobody has any local solutions, I'll look into that.

Yes, that just looks like fairly ordinary software information. Please tell us why you think the devices are hacked.

(For the record, hacking is very rare, and the most vulnerable thing is not your phone but your Google account: if you use a weak password, use the same password in many places, or don't have 2 factor authentication enabled then you increase your risk of this).

so whar @Dannydet is trying to say is that you can root the phone and flash a custom rom that has later updates......the only problem is that your phone has no support from devs...... so rooting is pointless as there is no custom roms for you to flash.

your old phone like my note 4 would serve you better as a wifi only device or as a media player.

plus this phone is a low budget phone, might as well get a much newer budget phone then what you have now.

if it is not there, then it is not there. not really sure what can be done about it. i have it on my note 10+ 5G

you can turn clipboard off.....not sure if that stops syncing. i just keep mine on.

I have this device.
I have searched for the battery.

What I have discovered is that you can buy the device for what the battery costs.

A battery will cost around $20 after shipping and tax.
So will the entire device.

Not that I am downing the device at all, but it is what it is.

Also, beware of batteries that I have seen for sale for this device.

Some are obviously not the right one, and others are used or shady in some other ways.

@ocnbrze is right; open your browse and enter the model number of the battery.

For my other devices, this is how it was done.
Ignore any info about what device{s} the battery fits.
As long as the model numbers are exactly the same, so are the batteries.

But, as I have found for myself, the supply of batteries for this device are very limited.

If I needed a batery for it now, I seriously would just repace the device for $20, and swap the batteres.
The old battery should be ok for use in the new device at home, plugged in and on Wi-Fi, at least until/if it starts to bulge.
Then more extreme measures would hapen if the device were to remain in service.

Let me know how your search goes, as I would like a battery for mine as well.

If you have not already noticed, accessories for these devices are also basically at the same price level as the devices themselves.

I did find out that the tempered glass screen protector for an iphone x will fit really well, but not quite perfect.
We are talking about a 16th of an inch or so at the top and bottom, and the thing is only $5.

If I had taken the time to grind the bottom down about 1/8 of an inch, it would be perfect.
