PROBLEM SOLVED. Talked to Verizon Tech Coach for a long, long time. Tried many things and finally ... VOILA! It turns out, there's a really, really buggy app called VOLUME CONTROL. (I had installed it as just a short cut instead of going to Settings) Do Not Install this app! As soon as I uninstalled it, all my problems (media volume, spotty internet access, flaky use of WiFi File Transfer, etc) -- all went away.

Ok, so I flashed my phone successfully and it solved the sound issue. Now it's working fine but for some reason, Google Play Services is crashing whenever I try to sign-in. It's weird. I removed the previous updates and installed new ones but still didn't work.

+ if ur one of us crazy ignorant folks like i was, i couldnt even get apks to work at 1st on the phone till i found intalnow by matsumi, 1mb wonder. So if u didn't know some of the jokes they pull like kingroot and supersu replace, and they dont tell u that kingroots eats away supersu if its not read only, sides that alot of us thlught u could unlock the bottloader somehow without a pc, an in general u cant phones don't do self surgery, so they made a spiel a comedy sorta on a thing called 'scroll me ups', its on xda utube, and it says that itl help u be able to use xprivacy then u can just use msl reader on at least some htc phones, so i looked at the # of downloads, it was pretty hi, and then i looked at the # of views for the same thing on utube, it was poultry very few, so its a jokes on u sorta deal for being dumb, so i eventually found another program, and it probably wouldn't be easy normally for some folks, and that msl reader at playstore actually works, alot easier than using oem hooked raw maybe, and the only thing ive like about samsung at first thought is their chargers. Because they don't use certain either logcat protection, or the deamon opperates differently with that an dial codes, so there easy cheesy japanesy i hear, but i like hot wiring phones, even the xiomi hotwire looks kinda cool.

Run the CPU - Z app anyway, it's very quick, and look at the second tab : "Device".

We can start from there, and if that shows it's fine we can look at the Storage issues.

I think I do understand your problem, except that I didn't realise that you didn't have the S5 any more. The P9 seems to be suffering from weak WiFi reception. I merely suggested comparing received signal strength rather than the estimated link speed as a more direct measure - a lower received signal than another handset in the same location would confirm that that was the issue, whereas if (less likely) they showed similar signal strength but lower estimated speed it would imply an issue with the Huawei's firmware.

As to what can be done, it depends on the cause. Weak reception could be due to a design problem, a fault in the individual unit (e.g. a bad antenna connection), a problem with the baseband firmware or even with the RIL (radio interface layer, which is normally distributed as part of the ROM). The last 2 might be fixed by a software update (if Huawei release a better version), the second by physical repair, the first you'd be stuck with.

Try the signal strength measurement anyway. Radio reception is very finicky so it would be clearer if you had another device to compare against, but if you look at the dBm figures when it's showing a reasonable speed and a poor one in the same location and see a big difference then we'll know it's reception one way or another (of coursea fault in the router could also reduce the reception - this is why a second device to compare would be better, you can eliminate external variables like that).

The one other thing to consider is interference: are you sure there isn't another network on the other side of the wall set to the same band, for example? I pick that as a source of interference that could start at some point in time and then persist. An insufficiently shielded microwave can very much interfere, but that would be more occasional. It may be worth trying a different band on the router anyway, or there are several WiFi analyser apps you can use to see whether there are other networks showing strong signals in the same band.

I just set this phone up a week+ ago...but I'm already a little fuzzy...

It has every text message on it dating back to one of my earliest Androids. Every one has been a Motorola. During its setup, the only prompting I recall was Google-related; it noted that a backup had been found, and asked if I wanted to restore [apps--which I did selectively, contacts, G-stuff]. When I checked, all my SMS messages from way back when were on it.

Since I don't generally text, I've never even considered a third-party app; all I've ever used is whatever came pre-installed on the device.

So what gives?
