Samsung black screen

Don't know the details. But came home to find girlfriend's Samsung S6 active with black screen, she said phone fell off bed, picked it up and had black screen, she did a internet search tried some things, doesn't remember what. Now still black screen, with the words "recovery booting" slowly flashing upper left corner and every one to two minutes a image of android with the words "installing system update " appears for a couple seconds any idea to bring this phone back ?
if you can get to recovery mode, you can try and do a factory reset. keep in mind that this will trip FRP (factory reset protection). as long as you know the phone's current gmail address and it's password, then you should be fine. if you do not remember, then you should hop on a computer and change the password before resetting the device.

An app for this

I'm after an app that will let me lock my phones screen, but keep say youtube or a video file i'm playing and not switch off.
Basically Netflix has this feature when playing a video, which is what i want but for watching youtube or a video file.
I've used a few apps that supposedly do this in the past, but they haven't worked very well if at all (can't remember what they were called)

Main reason for wanting this is when i'm busy working on the car, i need to have my phone in my pocket for the bluetooth signal to my headphones to still connect, but sometimes i may knock my phones screen and it will either exit the app or change position of the video.

Often i tend to listen to a video rather than watch it, if that makes sense, as i don't have a lot of spare time to sit down and watch something lol, so i prefer to just listen.

Thanks

Battery Life Question

Thanks for that summary. I'll just start training myself now to leave it off the wireless or USB chargers as a habit from now on and only start charging it up to 85-90% when it gets to be around 20-30%. Heat is a big thing that I've been bad with in the summer time sitting outside and will have to stop having it out listening to music unless I can find a cooler spot to put it.

The good news is, when I'm allowed to travel internationally again after the virus, it will save me a lot of time as I'm constantly always bringing my USB and portable external batter to keep my phone topped off at 100% as much as possible, which not only wastes time, but as I found not, not good anyways...

Help

Learning how to use your phone is really going to involve a hands-on approach on your part so just start playing around with your phone to become more familiar with how it works and what happens when you tap on different icons. It may feel a bit intimidating now but once you're comfortable with it things will eventually become a lot more normalized. Approach this at your own pace -- we all learn new things in different ways and we all have strengths and weaknesses when it comes to all the things we interact with every day.
Don't be nervous to post questions here, we're all here to share information and tips, and don't ignore the rest of the Internet either. Just look up stuff in your favorite search engine. Android and smartphones are prevalent in society now so if you're confused about something, the odds are there are bunch of postings floating around online from people with the exact same query. You're not alone when it comes to smartphone mysteries, inside each one is a very complex mix of software and hardware interactions that are great when they work and a terror when they don't.

Just some links you might want to bookmark in your browser for future reference. The one is just a listing of the hardware specs for your Galaxy J3 Orbit:
https://www.devicespecifications.com/en/model/6bb34d2f
Probably not a priority at this point, but something that might come in handy down the road when you might need to know some obscure aspect to your phone itself.
The following are user manuals from Tracfone (parent company of Total Wireless) and from Samsung:
https://tracfoneusermanual.net/samsung-galaxy-j3-orbit-manual/
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1481614/Samsung-Galaxy-J3-Orbit.html
One or the other might be worth your time to read through so you get a descriptive feel for your phone.

Any way to update

It's the way with older devices. At some point updates stop (the lower-end the device the quicker that happens), so if you are using hand-me-downs from other people it's unlikely you will ever get updates (unless there is one that the original owner didn't get round to installing).

That said, lack of updates doesn't make a device useless. I still manage to use my Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014), which despite the name is a 2013 device (maybe Samsung followed the lead from the old computer magazines, which always put the following month's date on the cover for some reason?). That got its last update (to 5.1) about 4 years ago, but for the things I use it for it still works.

Alternative to online database to read and write files?

Hi. I am new to android development and is looking to develop and app that can read and write text files from online. It can be any website that just allow me to store files, without being a back-end. I upload the text file through my app and other people can read them from their phones. I have seen sites like box.com.

So is it possible to achive this? I can write the code myself. All I need is information on some websites like that.
Thank you.

Rooting a Cubot King Kong 3 - a few general questions

Apparently there is an "unofficial" TWRP root method for this phone.
https://unofficialtwrp.com/cubot-kingkong-3-root-recovery-twrp/

Of course I've got no idea if this will actually work, or if it will brick your device.

Good luck!

Thank you for the link. I've already came across this post, but I was a little bit reluctant to just flash the TWRP. Is it possible to to take proper safety measures beforehand, so that regardless what the TWRP does, I can reinstate the phone to the original state?

[FREE] x=1: Learn to solve equations!

Hello and good morning!

My little math-app ‘x=1: Learn to solve equations!’ is finally available in the completely rebuild version 2.0.
Its free and without any adverticement. Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dg.eqs

What is it about?

Solving equations often causes difficulties, either in school or later in life. At first glance they consist of cryptic characters, which are also subject to strict rules! It gets even worse: Every time we take a step to find the desired X - we have to note down the whole equation on paper again!

For fun, to learn or to refresh your knowledge – with x=1 you can now try to find the hard to catch X without any paperwork at all! Try different approaches and find out which solution works, so you get a good feeling for the rules and dependencies.

At the moment equations build with the basic arithmetic operations + -, *, / can be solved. The rules of bracketing are also included and of course you can bring everything you like from one side of the equation to the other – if the rules allow it!

I am realy happy about your feedback!

With mathematical regards

Bid Farewell to Orchard Supply Hardware...

First off, let me say that I really do appreciate and strive to utilize the local mom and pop shops.

But where I live, they are horrible.

Not only do the elderly customers tend to stand in the center of the aisles and stare at things that I can't see (or might not even be there) but the stores seldom have anything I need.

The typical 'help' from an employee is "Did y'all try wrappin' it in Duck Tape first?"

Seriously, I recently purchased a combination lock and hasp from the local hardware store. In fact, it was the nicest lock of its size and type in the place.

I get it home and open the package.
That is as far as I got.
The lock would not open.

So it is another trip across town, back to the hardware store.

Of course, the person at the counter does not believe me (quite understandably, as I am still in disbelief today) but she can't get it to work either.

She asks if I wanted to exchange it, and I almost laughed.
Uhh, no. I sure don't want to cart another one of those **** things around town again.

I even returned the hasp as well, saying "Why do I need a hasp if I don't have a lock?"

You might say I was ticked off.

Our town is small, but basically a battlefield to get from one end to the other.

There is literally one of each store on each end of town because it us so inconvenient to get through town.

Two McDonald's, two Arby's, two Burger Kings, two of that (awful) local hardware store, two Bottle Stop liquor stores (1&2) (among many others), a Wal-mart at one end and a K-Mart (now gone) on the other, until recently two Al's supermarkets, and it goes on and on.

Anyway, after taking back a worthless lock to the hardware store I bit my tongue and went to Wal-Mart, where I found a lock and hasp for so much less money that I also purchased a small heater and a phone stand- and the bill was still 32¢ less than what I spent at the hardware store.

And that is just one example.

Most mom and pop shops here are ran by the parents of mom and pop.
They are grandmoms and grandpops shops.

Often they (even before this lockdown bolonia) are only open on Tuesday through Thursday, from 11AM to 2:30PM and closed for an hour at lunch.
Or some other nonsense hours that basically make them so difficult to get in I have never seen the inside.

So, yeah, I would like to see mom and pop places thrive- just not the ones around here.

If you're not open for normal business hours, and/or you can't/don't have what I need- what am I supposed to do?

Heck, I did NOT want to go to Wal-Mart.
But guess what?

I have gone there three times this week, got exactly what I needed- when I needed it- and got my projects done.

Help Whatsapp notification

I already set these options same like your screenshot before I posted my question. Whatsapp still has popup. Please try to see if it works for you.
It's always worked for me. I'm stumped as to why it's not working for you.

Have you checked its System Settings? Maybe there's something there contradicting the settings within the app.

You can try clearing its cache, but I doubt that will help.

A more dramatic step would be to clear its cache and data, and even uninstall/reinstall it. But you'd have to set everything up again--and there's no guarantee it would solve the problem.

From my own experience, some apps just inexplicably don't follow their notification settings. For me, it's Venmo. Nothing I've tried has made it work on this device. It sends me alerts via e-mail and text, as directed, but never as a notification on this phone. I finally gave up trying to solve it!

Accessories Is It Possible For An Individual To View Everything You Do Via Chromecast?

no it is not possible. chromecast is a streaming device. it cannot be used to do anything else. plus it is kind of a one way communication. you have to cast from your device to chromecast. chromecast cannot communicate with another device unless you cast from the device. in other words, i go into my computer and i go to youtube. i tell youtube from my device to cast to my tv. you cannot tell chromecast to cast youtube from your phone. it does not work that way

....i hope that made sense.

Opening a port

Welcome to Android Forums @nblepaldin

I have a rooted Sprint Note 4 (n910p). I'll have to admit, port forwarding is something I've never done but I did come across this link that you might find of interest. Of course, Im hoping the vpn that @mikedt suggested works because that would be much easier.
