well your phone is pretty old. it is well over 6 years old. it could be many things, i'd start with trying to get a new battery.

Android only allows one app to use the mic at a time.

Screen recorders generally record audio through the mic, and your phone call is already using the mic.

So that is why you are having the issue.

But some screen recorders offer internal recording of audio- not from the mic.

If your device can do this, (not all can) then this would be the solution.

In the audio settings, you can select internal or mic as the audio source.

As for the video quality, there are many settings that should suffice to make a good/excellent recording.

If it won't record, set the video resolution to match your screen resolution.

Some screen recorders seem to offer this function, but I think you need root for it to be possible.

Since I don't have root, I really don't know.

This is the screen recorder that I use.

In the settings, there is the option to record from internal rather than the built in mic.

As this setting exists, I have to think that it must be possible somehow.

Perhaps this can be a start as to finding the method.

As mentioned in previous posts, a Factory Reset will not change your phone back to an earlier OS version, All it does is wipe the user data, it does nothing to the operating system. The internal storage of your Nexus 7 is divided into several partitions with most of them dedicated to the installed Android OS, and largest one is set up to be the user data partition. A Factory Reset only wipes that user data partition clean, it doesn't have any affect on any of the system partitions.

You referred to the phone being unstable after a system upgrade. Did you try wiping the system cache partition? That's a commonly recommended thing to try after something like a system upgrade (note that's becoming more of legacy thing as newer versions of Android devices no longer have separate system cache partitions).
Anyway, wiping the system cache isn't something done in the Settings menu, you need to reboot your Nexus into its Recovery Mode, instructions on the process here:

Remove your Google account in the Settings menu, then reboot it into Recovery Mode to do the wipe system cache partition and a Factory Reset. Then after restarting normally see if the phone is running normally again.
At some point you'll probably want to set up somebody's Google account in order to be able to access the Play Store.

My good friend a state away just got a Samsung A20, and he says that there are no sounds for any calls, texts, or other ways of messaging.

I have little experience with Samsung, and am hoping someone with this device or similar can help.

Getting a phone with the plan usually means locked and 3rd party garbage. Though can get it unlocked when contract it done.

Debated buying an unlocked phone, or even a refurbished one off Amazon but in Canada, a refurbished s10 is $870, and a new one with the 2yr contract comes out to $720. So price wise makes sense to get it with the plan.

ok first batch of fizzy kombucha that i made was a disaster. i let the 2nd fermentation going for too long. they should have been in for 1-2 days. i let them ferment after flavoring for 4 days!!!!! and the build up of CO2 was just to much. i thought i could release the gas slowly but when i tried it the pressure just exploded. i had blueberry pulp all over my kitchen and ceiling....WHAT A MESS TO CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!

i also put way to much of the flavoring in. there was too much sugar which produced more gas. so i'm gonna try again. i'm about to brew some more tea and try again.

Alcatel OneTouch Idol is not my main phone, I have more phones. I was just curious about what caused the problems because for years it has been working fine with my Google account and only a few days ago, suddenly started having the issues I described.

That is a good suggestion. I did what you suggested and other tests, many factory resets to try and isolate the problem. I'll share my findings here, in case someone else comes across a similar issue, it could be helpful for everyone to share our ideas and experiences.

Like you said, after adding my Google account, I went as quickly as possible (before the freeze) to Google Play settings and disabled auto-update for apps. Then, I went to my Google account, where I noticed it was giving a sync error, why I don't know. I disabled (unticked) each one of the several boxes like sync contacts, calendar, etc.

The phone still has many Google services related apps installed. It started to become sluggish until it froze again, back to the endless freeze/reboot cycle. Close but no cigar. It was time to say goodbye to Google's Big Brother eye spying on my phone.

I'm convinced the issue happens due to something related to Google, I wasn't able to find out exactly which part of Google is causing the incompatibility with Jellybean 4.1.1. It would be interesting if someone else found out more about this, out of curiosity.

This time, I didn't add my Google account. I disabled every app I found related to Google, disabled Google location. Instead of Google Play, I installed Amazon Appstore, then I installed Facebook Lite and Facebook Messenger, it's been working great for hours, the operating system is even performing much faster than before with Google.

I now have "Developer options" enabled, and have turned "Mobile data always active" off.

Nevertheless, I received an SMS from o2 earlier today, welcoming me to Japan - where I've been since March. When I've received these from o2 previously on this trip, it's often been followed by a big bill for data usage.

I've got my network set at "3G" as well to err on the side of ruling out VoLTE.

HTC 10 is the last one I've heard of.
I haven't been paying much attention though.
