Android box casting

If I had a smart tv I wouldn't care about android box...

If you don't have a smart TV, probably the easiest way to cast to it from a mobile Android device, like a phone or tablet, is to get a Chromecast that plugs into the TV's HDMI.

Or if you get an Android box, those can plug straight into the TV, and run your streaming and video players on that instead.

Delete whats app

If the app is connected it may delete - I just can't promise because it's not obvious to me whether that will work if the phone is no longer associated to the phone number. I expect that when they say "all data are removed when you delete the account" they assume that the app is actually connected to the account still. But if the phone is turned off or is not connected to the internet then of course nothing you do is going to delete data off the phone.

As for what you call "file manager" backups, WhatsApp automatically makes a daily encrypted backup in the device's internal storage. That's not backing up "to the file manager": a file manager is just an app for browsing files on the phone, and does not have ownership of the files. And as the backups are encrypted only WhatsApp can open them, and it needs to be connected to the account, so you should not need to worry about them.

I don't understand why you think that the local backup is a privacy issue. It's on your device, not shared with WhatsApp or anyone else, and it's encrypted. It doesn't give them access to the data. There are many issues with the surveillance capitalist companies, and WhatsApp's owner (Facebook) is the creepiest of the lot, but in this particular case you are worrying needlessly.

Help Unlocked phone compatibility with carriers?

I think in this case @artbytes may be getting video chat that doesn't count against data usage via the T-Mo app. In that case I would try to weigh how much I use that while not on WiFi (or when the grandkids are not on WiFi). Aside from that, yeah, I've been using unlocked phones on multiple carriers.

Ahh, didn't know it was free via app. Wonder if VZW's used to be. Now it just integrates with Duo via phone app, but there used to be a VZW video call feature.

Great phone.

Sooner or later I'll find the time.

Personally I think I could do it. I use Google for calendar sync, but there are other providers. I sometimes use Google Maps, but I have other apps that substitute for that just fine (in fact I probably use Google less than Open Streetmap-based apps). And those are the two Google services I use most, and I reckon I can dispense with both (the calendar sync will be the harder, but there are other CalDav servers out there and I don't actually share calendars with people). I can't think of any other Google service I can't do without: F-Droid and APKMirror cover app requirements, I don't use Assistant, don't get media from Google, don't need Photos, and anyway most Google services can be accessed with a browser if you really need them. So my guess is that I could walk away from Google completely if I wanted, and a phone with no Google certainly seems doable to me.

Cannot CAST from phone to TV

Try restarting everything involved -- your phone, your TV, and your router. And before you say your other devices are working fine on your network, that's not the problem you need to address. The problem is something going on between your phone and your TV and networking is much more complicated than that (more so when WiFi is involved). Reboot everything involved so you can eliminate what might be a one-off glitch from an actual problem to look into.
Since you already confirmed all your devices are connected to the same local network, it does appear to be just a phone issue. You probably have the Google Home app on your phone, that's a recommended way to set up and interact/maintain a Chromecast and the app includes its own device casting/mirroring feature. Does the Home app now allow you to mirror your phone to your TV?

Also, approximately how far away is your TV from your router? Just on a chance you're on the fringes of adequate WiFi coverage, that could explain some quirky behavior like some apps working OK but some not when it involves a datastream like casting. Try installing this WiFi Analyzer (open source) app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vrem.wifianalyzer&hl=en_US
Use it to take some basic measurements of WiFi signal strength. Stand next to your TV/Chromecast and see what the coverage range and check the numbers (i.e. 52 dBm as an example) and compare that to when you're standing say 10 feet from your router (i.e. 41 dBm). What kind of numbers are you getting?

Get list of opt-in testers?

Is there any way to get a list of the opt-in testers in the closed track? I've used the opt-in url to add a user, but i cannot find anywhere that this user is listed. He's not in the Testers lists. Any way to manage this? I'm referring to the App Releases in the play store console.

Do i have to add them to a testers list before they can use the opt-in link? It's a bit confusing because my user (who is an administrator) can see the opt-in link and I can click the become a tester link from the opt-in. But another user, that is not a user in the console sees the App not Available screen

Best rootable phone?

Well it is possible to just disable both of those, but I guess from what you say your motivation is to make it so you can't just re-enable them (though removing them from the system won't stop you reinstalling them, if you really have trouble with temptation).

OK, rooting the Pixel 2 genuinely shouldn't be hard. "Magisk" is the trickiest bit, but that's the new rooting method that allows you to avoid some of the drawbacks of older root methods, so probably worth following. There's a pretty detailed guide here. It's changed a bit since I last rooted, but by my reading you need to follow the steps of installing fastboot and adb on a computer and rooting using Magisk (which at one point requires you to use "fastboot flash", which for anything other than official firmware means the bootloader must be unlocked). It seems you can do this without installing TWRP, though you will need TWRP if you want to try custom ROMs or ROM backups (without a ROM backup, called a "nandroid", be careful about what system apps you remove since any error will leave you unable to boot). The "flashing factory images" section isn't needed if you are already up to date with system updates, but may be useful if anything goes wrong (such as removing the wrong app, as mentioned above).

Note that I expect that rooting will break installing of over the air updates (I'm sure that if you then delete system apps it will). You'll still be able to update using a computer by flashing stock images, but you'll probably lose root when you do that and have to repeat the magisk step.

Strange things

Just now as I was looking at the information on my Elixir 2 app I noticed that Accessibility services were on. I know I turned them all off last night. I went and turned them off. A notifications popped up that a certificate was installed on my device that could leak my wifi connection ect.. I tapped it to look and it was a Samsung root certificate. Now I don't root and I didn't think my Samsung Galaxy J2 was not able to be rooted. Ideas Anyone???

News Kit

news-en.png

News Kit
is a new news aggregator model.
Registration in the application is not required - we do not store any personal data.

You design your own news feed. You can read each news source separately, or you can collect your own news feed from different sources. Read only what you are interested in. Unlike most aggregators, we do not add sources to the feed to which you did not subscribe and do not impose news on you that are not interesting to you.

The catalog of popular news sources, for convenience, is divided not only by category, but also by country. This allows you to create separate news feeds for each country.

The catalog is constantly updated with new sources and countries.
If your country is not yet in the catalog, just write to us and we will add it. You can write to us directly from the application, in the "Information" section.

It is possible to add new sources.

Simple and intuitive interface - to see the catalog you just need to open the side panel. Setting up a news feed takes place in the same place in two clicks. By opening any category of the catalog, you can read news from any source, even if you are not subscribed to it. This allows you to first open the source, view articles, and if you like them, add the source to your feed in one go.

Two article display modes. By default, all articles open in read mode, without annoying ads, hit counts, whistles and frills for decoration. If you wish, you can always go to the source’s site and read the full version of the article in its original form.

It is possible to change the color theme of the application, for example, for reading in the dark it is convenient to turn on the dark theme.
