Rooting cannot stream videos from showmax app

Just to clarify, is your S9 Plus rooted or not?

If your phone isn't and this is apparently a false negative matter, try going into the Settings >> Apps menu, find and open the Showmax app listing, tap on Force Stop, and then find and tap on 'Clear data'. Using Clear data removes all that app's settings and config files, along with wiping it cache. This returns the app to its first time used state so now when you start it up you'll need to re-enter your login and password info. Something in the app previously mistook the not-rooted state of your phone.
But if your phone is rooted, a lot of online services (streaming content sites, banking sites, etc.) are averse to working on rooted devices because of the pervasive problems of piracy (DRM can be more readily bypassed) and security (interactions involving financial matters need to be tightly curated).

Which phones are shipping with Android 10?

What was Android 9 called?
"Pie".

Which (as I admit I've said before) I never used, because to me it always sounded stupid, in addition to which on my side of the Atlantic does not imply a dessert (I gather that this is something where the cultural assumptions are different: "pie" without qualifiers is most likely to be sweet in the US but savoury in the UK). So I always just called it "9" myself.

(I'm currently on the February patch of Android 10: one good thing about Pixels is that you do get all of the security updates promptly).

Galaxy S5 not updating Android system

Hi, newbie here.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. The Android system has not updated beyond ver. 5.0. Here are numbers that may help provide a solution.
Ver. 5.0
Baseband ver. G900AUCU4BOF2
Kernel ver. 3.4.0-4432708
Please tell me how to get the phone to update to the most recent version.
Thanks, thelonius
Go to #1.2 of the 42 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide to determine exactly which of the 42 models of the 6 year old Galaxy S5 you have. It would seem to be the hybrid AT&T model which has not been supported by the carrier for around 3 years. If it is the G900A variant, then I am afraid that what you have is as good as it gets as this model cannot be rooted for custom ROM's... see #1.6 of the previous link.

Not booting up

Thanks Dannydet and mikedt for your responses. I'm in contact with the seller. One thing I'd like to mention, I could get the phone boot up successfully after a few tries: first boot into the stage where the screen shows list of different lower level operations (factory reset, boot into bootloader ...) and then try a few times (I could not figure out a special sequence of what I did), then the phone would boot into normal state. If I do a normal shutdown, then all the problems come back again.

So I'm wondering if this indicate hardware issue (I'll need to return it back to China) or a software issue (hopefully can be fixed by new firmware or OS update) ?

Widget to show IP address

.....
I have to launch Chrome and use a Google search: What's my ip to get the IP
If you can't find a widget that works consistently this is just a workaround. Make a shortcut for the site you want to go to.
https://www.howtogeek.com/196087/how-to-add-websites-to-the-home-screen-on-any-smartphone-or-tablet/
Start up Chrome, go to the https://whatsmyip.com/ site, open the menu button, select 'Add to homescreen' and that should save an icon the screen. Then you just need to tap on that icon to automatically launch Chrome to that web site.
You still have to tap on something to see what you want so this is just saving you a few extra steps. Not as readily available as a widget but also don't forget that every widget you add is something that is constantly running in the background as every widget has to be polling its respective app to keep the displayed information current. It's a minimal battery draw but still a factor.

Help Unable to make NFC payments unless banking app is open

I bank with Barclays, who do not support Google Pay.

With my Samsung Galaxy S8+, I was able to make NFC payments, even when the phone was locked.

However, since I bought my Huawei P30 Pro back in March 2019, I need to have the Barclays app open and logged into it before I am able to make payments.

This makes it slow to make payments, so I tend to just get my card out. It's faster. Though it defeats the point.

I have disabled any battery-saving features related to the app.

Any ideas?

Moisture Detector Gone Awry

I know you claimed the phone hasn't been near water but it's very possible (perhaps likely) that moisture somehow snuck awkwardly into a port when you didn't notice. Maybe your hands were wet, there was steam in the bathroom, it was humid that day, or someone else got it wet and dried it off when you weren't looking.

Treat it this as if the phone actually got wet- if just to completely rule out the possibility. Put it in rice, blow a hairdryer on it, get a pressurized can of air you use to clean keyboards, etc... and see if you get any results.

Android: Rejecting Invocation

I have built an app for android which takes the data and enters it in a google sheet. The form has like 600+ values and was working flawlessly but it has broken upon adding more fields and now I am being greeted with these in logs when it crashes:

App crashes when I try to start this 'AddItem' activity from my 'MainActivity' activity using this simple code:

Code:
@Override
    public void onClick(View v) {

        if(v==buttonAddItem){

            Intent intent = new Intent(getApplicationContext(),AddItem.class);
            startActivity(intent);
        }

    }

Here is the method addItemToSheet() from AddItem activity:

Java:

        final String farmer_name = editfarmer_name.getText().toString().trim();

Please let me know what am I doing wrong. Tried googling but it has not helped.

Thank you for your time.
