Would you look at this? [storage issue]

I appologize for being to lazy to look it up, but does your phone provide for an external SD card?

It would be great for you, even though you don't seem to have a ton of personal stuff on your internal memory.

First, that is more than 1GB that can be moved out of the internal memory.

Second, it would allow for easy separation of your personal files.

Since you are on Android 6, I assume that you have a built in storage system setting that allows you to clear the system cache right from the phone storage page (see photo above)?

Just touch the cache area, and a notice saying that you will clear the cache should pop up.

Go ahead and do it, if you haven't already.

That can easily be up to or more than 1GB.

Now, go into your file manager, and look under your normal internal storage at a folder called DCIM.
Insure that 'show hidden files' is active on your file manager.
(Simple Mobile Tools makes an excellent File Manager, btw)

Inside, there should be a file/folder called thumbnails or .thumbnails
( . files are only visable if you have allowed 'show hidden files')

This is where every single thumbnail for each photo, video, avatar, ad, etc. is stored.

I have seen this useless junk file get to over 3GB!

Delete that crap.

Now back out one step to the DCIM folder, and add your own file-

.thumbnails

and save it.

This will prevent more thumbnails from being saved.

Yes, some galleries and video players really need thumbnails, and will start up slow without them.

If that is the case, get a new gallery and a new video player!

Once again, Simple Mobile Tools makes an excellent Gallery (pro version) and X-Player will play virtually any video that you throw at it.

Drawbacks?
Thumbnails allow for the retrieval of photos that have been deleted by accident.

But Simple Gallery Pro has a Recycle Bin, where everything you delete goes before it is permanently deleted.

So, no real drawbacks as far as I can tell.

Help Can't access gallery - not enough memory

I had the same problems as percifield in the above post but the solution they provided did not work for me.
I was about to give up and factory reset the phone. So to make the phone ready for this I backed-up all the media I had on the phone. Then I decided to try a few things.

What I did first was to open settings\storage and then "Format USB storage"
On the next screen, it says " Erase all USB storage? You will lose all stored data" with a button "Format USB storage"

After hitting the button a message pops up telling me this will erase all media (photos music etc) from the phone.
I proceed and after completing the operation I was able to access the gallery and I could see that it didn't actually delete any photos or music that I had stored but it did fix the problem. So I can now take photos again and remove and add new music to the phone again.

I really hope this helps someone else out there solve a very frustrating problem and stops you from buying a new phone when you don't need to. :)

Updating Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro SM-T520 to android .1

This last post looks like the info I have been looking for...is it still current and applicable to updating my t520 now that it seems there are apps that do not support kitkat? This would also be my first attempt at something of this magnitude.

Screen overlay

maybe this article might help you:
https://www.howtogeek.com/271519/how-to-fix-the-screen-overlay-detected-error-on-android/
basically it is settings>apps>advanced>special app access>display over apps. is this where you see that the apps are greyed out so there is no way to toggle it on or off?
I checked out the link above. That's my problem for sure. I played around some more with the settings, I got it to work, but I'm not sure what I did to get it to work.
Thanks

Apps I'm having trouble with Constraints

eah, I think that's a bit of an oversight on the forum's part - I suspect it's because the code blocks are really only used in the dev sub-forum, but maybe it could be added in a sticky? (I don't remember ever reading one with that note)

It is in a sticky, but nobody bothers to read it :D;)

Qlink

Definitely restart it.

That is like giving vitamins to a cheap phone.

Not knocking them, I use them too.

And it is working, correct?
Even when it says it is disconnected?

As long as it works I wouldn't worry too much.

I have a device that I use on Wi-Fi only, and when I am downloading apps from an app store it tells me that Wi-Fi is disconnected.

Wi-Fi is all it has, there is no SIM- no cellular service- and the downloads proceed just fine.

Help Google Parent on Amazon Fire tablets

Just wondering...
How does one download their own self made APK's?
Like, say if I have a game or even Playstore (and the other services)... can I make my own APKs and give out?
Just wondering where these clever people go the linked APK's from?
I'm interpreting this quite differently from @svim, i.e., that you're just wanting to know how to create an APK from an existing app. If that's not correct, skip the rest of this! :)

I create mine very easily--by using file managers that do it for me. :) It's an 'app backup' feature in them. (This has saved my ass in the past.) Note, though, that I basically only use paid apps, and wouldn't consider sharing their APKs with anyone.

I was a programmer and sysadmin on UNIX and Linux. Even though Android is a Linux, and writing apps for it should be pretty easy, my circumstances have changed and stuff like that isn't in the cards for me. Right now. :) So instead of learning how to do it myself, I let apps I paid for do it for me.

How Can I Find an IP Address For A FB Account?

Hello Leah.

Police are correct when they said they cant do much with an IP address. However they didn't tell you that they could easily approach the ISP and ask them details about the IP address and to whom it was assigned. Provided the IP is not masked or the user is not using VPN.

If you haven't found out the IP address yet, refer to this guide:
http://www.hacker9.com/find-ip-address-fake-facebook-account.html

In the above guide, just follow the steps provided by the author and once you get the IP, Check the tracking part in the same article.

remember when you get the IP address of the user, It will also mention which phone or computer he is using and also carrier information. This becomes very easy when the culprit is one of your friends of family member as you can easily guess who is using that phone.

Hope this helps.

Help Something wrong with the battery ?

Try some ways:
- Check which apps are draining your battery
- Uninstall apps
- Never manually close apps
- Remove unnecessary widgets from the home screen
- Turn on Airplane Mode in low-signal areas
- Go Airplane Mode at bedtime
- Turn off notifications
- Don’t let apps wake your screen
- Turn off GPS when not in use
- Check app location tracking
- Enable Battery Saver Mode
- Decrease screen timeout
- Charge between 40% and 80%
- Get a certified or original charger
- Restart your phone
- Try a factory reset
If you try all but the battery keeps draining abnormally, absolutely you should replace your battery.
