Problems with two Contacts apps on the V20

I have an LG V20, which is the third Android I have owned. Prior to these I had several iPhones over the years. Problem - and this is complicated: I have two sets of CONTACTS on the V 20, and I don't know how either of them got there. When I transferred content from my old V10, there they were.

One of them is a green and white icon and the other is the blue and white icon for Contacts seen in this forum. The "green icon" contacts app says that it is the SYSTEM app, and it cannot be uninstalled and reinstalled. The "blue icon" contacts app is apparently the official Google/Android app.

These are the problems I have been struggling with for months:

  • The 'Green' set of contacts has many hundreds of copies of several of the individual contacts, which are the people with whom I communicate the most, and I have no idea why or how these copies are made. I certainly never added them more than once. And I can't get rid of them. They reappear, over and over, after I manually delete them. Thus glut of unnecessary contact duplicates totals several thousand, using up needed space.

  • But the main problem is that this 'Green' set (the "system" set) of contacts has serious errors in how the contacts are identified, having somehow pulled content from various fields which are part of the contact's setup for that person -- i.e., it pulls content from the Notes field and the Address field, etc -- and scrambled it in with the person's name. And when I try to send an email to that person, that scrambled mess is what automatically appears in the 'To' field of the email. Example: 'Steven son Baker ICE1 Baker'. Obviously unacceptable, especially for my business contacts.
I have deleted these faulty names manually many times from the 'Green' list of contacts, and they keep coming back -- as if when the list syncs, it is syncing FROM a faulty master list that is stored somewhere and importing them back into my cleaned-up list, instead of the other way around.

Further, the Google email app on my phone defaults to the 'Green icon' set of contacts, instead of to the 'Blue' set which is supposedly the 'Google Contacts' app.

These same errors were also in the 'Blue icon' set of contacts, but I have manually deleted the faulty items in that set and they have not returned, so far. I AM ABLE to access the cleaned-up 'Blue' contacts list ONLY IF I use the Microsoft Outlook Mobile app. I cannot access the relatively clean Blue list from the Google email app, even though this is Google's contact list.

You might wonder why I don't just stop using the Google email app and stick to the Microsoft Outlook Mobile app. Even though the Microsoft Outlook Mobile app is generally superior to the Google email app in its final appearance (e.g., never skips several lines between paragraphs), the Outlook app occasionally has problems with certain kinds of messages -- such as refusing to send some attached image files, sometimes refusing to save to draft on the phone and never saving to draft back to my laptop, etc.

So . . . how do I permanently delete the content in the grossly faulty 'system contacts app' (the 'Green' icon app) so that I can import the relatively clean Google/Android contacts list into the systems app?

I should perhaps mention that both of my email accounts/addresses are gmail accounts attached to the company I own. And also, it is significant (I think) that I have NONE of these problems with either the contacts or the email functions on my laptop computer, which is Microsoft Outlook. I am sorry for the detail here, but it is a complex issue, and it's driving me crazy. Any help would be very much appreciated.

[HELP] Security issue

It's become clear, Brockd2020, at least to me, that for whatever reason you're not actually interested in solving the problem--if there is one.

You've been given a definitive solution, one that would work swiftly and completely, yet you ignore it, choosing instead to carry on with 'proof' of an intruder. Keeping in mind that you gave this vile intruder physical access to your phone, the solution offered would give you a fresh start, one in which you've learned your lesson and won't give anyone access to your phone again.

If/when you decide to proceed with the solution offered, rather than continuing to wallow in stress and worry, let us know!
You guys are right.

Doing so now, but I do want to still figure out what happened. I will be back

Hotspot Not working

I just encountered this issue with many things in common, Verizon, old unlimited plan, new sim card.. after dealing with many techs I was finally linked with one who had come across this issue before. It is something on Verizon's side. When you call tech support ask to be transferred to Tier 2 so they can re-provision the plan. Make sure you mention the authentication error that appears. Took total of 10 minutes, worked instantly after.

HTC Desire stuck in a bootlop

With SMS backups the solution is always to use a third party app: any manufacturer app runs the risk of being manufacturer-specific (why would they help you switch, after all?). For that reason I never used an HTC backup when I had an HTC phone, would never use a Samsung backup if I had a Samsung phone, etc. Which also unfortunately means that I don't know any details about htc's SMS Backup - all I can suggest is that maybe htc's pc software (whatever that's called these days) can read it.

As for the problem, you should be able to boot into safe mode without needing that menu. It will involve holding a button down while rebooting the phone. Try restarting it then when the HTC logo appears press and hold the volume down key (if you do it too early you'll end up in the bootloader).

Though to be honest I have a suspicion this may be a hardware problem. You could see whether it's more stable when cool (the trick is to cool it without producing condensation in it - don't just stick it in the fridge, at least not without protection like a bad with the air squeezed out and a towel around it). But if cooling it does help it will be temporary.

Metropcs phones randomly don't ring at either end?

I will call my girlfriend's phone (both are unlocked tmo phones on metropcs) and much of the time I will hear nothing, then after about the length of time where I would normally hear it ringing, it goes to voicemail. And it never rings at all on her end. It also happens when someone calls me. From what I can tell it doesn't matter what network the other person calls from, could be metropcs phone or any network. Anyone have any ideas or similar issue?

And just to be clear, it doesn't go straight to voicemail like when the phone is off or when the call is purposely declined.

OK, still having this problem. Any ideas? Anybody? Has anyone ever had a similar issue?

Phone stolen abroad

Since the phone did have a lock screen, it's not a complete disaster. The only real vulnerability in this matter is the microSD card, which you've already mentioned only has her photos on it.
Unless the moron that stole her phone is on a professional level (taking phones, hacking into them to do the data mining, and then resell the phone), the odds are much more likely they just snatched it as just a matter of opportunity (hanging out at places like hotels taking advantage of situation) and their skill set will be on a pretty conventional level. Once they encounter that lock screen their options will be pretty limited. Even if they are able to get past the lock screen (again, not likely), since you've already nixed the Verizon account on that phone it won't have any cellular connectivity (and now that phone is on a black list so if it does get into the resellers market it's something of a liability). As for WiFi connectivity, since you've also enabled the remote wipe feature that will clear it once the said moron does set up any kind of WiFi network on it.
The phone could be reused but since you've taken the necessary steps to protect the data, it won't be a a matter where it can be be reused as is. The lock screen will require them to re-flash the ROM to be usable again (but again, since it's now black listed it can only be reused as a WiFi only phone).
Be sure to reset any passwords for all the online services and social media accounts she uses, just in case though.
A million thanks, svim!!
