Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

So last october/november my lg dare went through the wash and was broken. My NE2 uppgrade wasnt until August 1 2010. I am not really sure how, but my slate was wiped clean and I was able to get the Droid on a 1 year contract price with the upgrade set for October. Am i still able to upgrade early and what is the discount if i wait to my designated time?

I would check MyVerizon, to see what it says your upgrade status says (does your contract end this year, or just have the upgrade this year?) The policy from what I read was you couldn't have upgraded this year, and your contract had to end this year.

So, almost there, just need a little more information :)

I ordered the Incredible and refused shipment on it yesterday. Do I have to wait for the phone to go back into the system and for Verizon to update my account to show that I'm available for an upgrade before I can pre order the Droid X?

We pull the despoit/credit check from Verizon, so whatever they tell us you need to put down (as far as deposits go), that's what it will say.

It depends on whether you want the account in your name or your co-signers name. If it's in your name, there might be a deposit since you're 17 and usually don't have established credit =/ I would put it in your cosigners name, then get your credit up, transfer it over to your name later.

If you go and preorder it Sunday, depending on your store, you may or may not receive it on launch. If not, it would be a week or so before you got your phone. The preorder only requires you to put down 50 bucks, not to start a new account. They can run the credit though, and see what it would require for you to start an account when you get one :)

Hope that helps!

This does help a lot. Thank you, but I do have one more quick question. So say I went to BB and preordered and got an account in my cosigners name, would I still be able to receive the bill statements monthly and be able to have Verizon take the money out of my account, or would they send it to my cosigner's house?

I don't know why that was so long. Basically, if it's in my cosigner's name, is my name still on the account too?

You can preorder the X despite the account not updating. I'd be more concerned on whether that would be cleared up before the 15th. Check your account and make sure it doesn't show an incredible on there.

But I would preorder just to be safe, if not, you can always get your money back.

The billing address can be changed later. But if you want, you can put it under her name and put your address, but I've ran into conflicts with this before, it doesn't always go smoothly. I would be safe, put it under their information, and then switch the billing address later.

I've found in the past that if you go that route then you have to wait till after the first 30 days to change the billing address, so the first bill would go to the original address you use to set up the account with.

If your contract is ending in December, you should qualify to upgrade to the Droid X when it comes out.....as per Verizon Wireless announced upgrade policy.

Here is a link to a Verizon Wireless announcement of the Droid X...which also has the upgrade specifications in it :

July 2010: DROID X By Motorola Lands On The Nation

will BB call me few days before it released to make an appt or i just show up on that day and show paper and receipt?

Droider13.... Aookay answered my question if you have upgrade date in 2010 and you can get upgrade early for Droid X

Am i right Aookay? because my upgrade is on Nov and i can get early upgrade now

The promotion is not based on upgrade dates..it is based on contract dates. Look at the link I posted a couple of posts above this one.

That is not to say that you might not be able to get Verizon to move your UPGRADE date up.

A lot of people confusing upgrade date with contract date. You should be able to logon to myverizonwireless and see when your contract date ends as well as when you are elegible for an upgrade. Not everyone qualifies for an annual upgrade.

Ah, this I did not know. Thanks for the heads up.

I think I originally said upgrade date, because that's what gizmodo reported on the liveblog, but I was corrected in this thread, I'm pretty sure there was a link a few pages ago as well. It specified if your contract date was before the end of the year, you could early upgrade.

For the preorder appointment, you just wait for the call, and they will schedule you for a time to come in. I would bring your receipt and your giftcard with you, just to be square.

I think the reason is, and this goes my customers as well, is that you signed a 2 year contract. So when you upgrade, it is to be believed you are out of your contract. The only company that does this now is....t-mobile? I think?

So uhm, am I going to be able to preorder today for a 1 year contract as a new customer?
I dunno if there's been a definitive answer in this thread yet.

It's different for each person. There are really nice benefits to it (the good maintenance reward, the battery replacement, if we don't carry the phone and it breaks, you get a new one) but there are some down sides ( doesn't cover lost or stolen...but that's what mobile defense is for ;) ).
how does that work when u r out-of-stock of Droid X? Do you give the customer an alternative phone? until a new stock comes in?

can cancel and reactivate the insurance anytime?

I believe we did, but yes, we can do a new customer 1 year contract at best buy, the price is just more.

Well if we are out of stock, we get a phone shipped in from another store. If you mean later down the line, when we don't carry it anymore, we will replace it with a brand new phone with comparable features. I remember we replaced a guys broken Storm with an Incredible last month.

You can cancel it anytime, but you can't reactivate it after 30 days since the purchase of the phone.

If you buy the phone at best buy can you insure it at verizon? If you insure it at best buy what are the options (cost, deductible, ...). I've never insured a phone before and probably won't this time but thought I would check ...

I work for VZW Corporate Retail so I thought I'd chime in to help Aookay out. As far as how Best Buy's system to add insurance I do not know how they go about in doing it. In a corporate store you have 30 days to add insurance, but mostly everyone adds it on the same day of purchasing a new phone. The DROID X falls under Asurion's (the 3rd party insurance company) Advances Devices which is $7.99 per month additionally to your regular bill. The insurance covers if it gets lost/stolen, physically damaged (cracked screen), dropped in a pool or toilet(hear it a lot), run over by a car, etc; The deductible is $90 and Asurion will overnight you a full replacement. You can only make 2 claims per year. You are also allowed to cancel insurance at any time if you feel you do not need it anymore. Keep in mind once you cancel it, you are unable to add it back again.

To clear up of what VZW as far as letting people upgrade early is that for those who have contract dates ending by December 31, 2010, you can upgrade to any Smartphone with no penalty. If you go online to your MyVerizon account via Cell Phones, Cell Phone Plans, 3G Smartphones, the Best Cell Phone Service - Verizon Wireless it should tell you when your contract date ends. If you are unable to access your account you can call Customer Service, *611 via your cell phone and they will tell you when your contract date ends.

Thanks
Did anyone come up with the exact price with a 1 year contract?

Just got off the phone with my local BB rep and they still don't know this yet. It's my experience that Best Buy always has higher pricing when selling phones on shorter than average contracts or full retail even though they've been telling me they almost always have the cheapest price.

Nice. Pretty crazy that they don't know.

I don't think I'll be buying from them if the price is too much higher than the 269 for the Incredible on Verizon's site. Surely the X will be about the same.

if BB wont let me to do early update or current upgrade..

what im doing to do... buy full price for that X at best buy and go on online from verizon and order X there because Verizon told me that i can order X online for early upgrade

so i get X from BB and wait til Droid X from verizon shipped and arrives then i will return other X at BB so i get money back

what do you think ya :) so i can use X for while til other X from verizon arrived so i dont have to wait longer

Yes, if you buy the phone from Best Buy, you can insure it through Verizon.

Best Buy's Protection plan costs 9.99, there is no deductable, and it doesn't cover lost or stolen, but all accidental damage.

Mobile Phones

There you go :)
