I tried this. thought hts sync didnt sync cause i didnt have virus protection turned off . turned off virus protection re downloaded sync ran cd c:\android\sdk-windows\tools ( where sdk was unzipped to, got into that directory. then typer adb shell got adb not a valid command message typed adb devices, same thing. i got my comp to say installing/ found new hardware adb 1 time, but when i tried to update the driver to my sdk tools windo it said file doesnt exist find a diff path. i know it exists because i can run my sdk setup from it the drivers are downloaded htc is running have hack in tools folder i just get stumped at the check adb shell part.havent had time to try it again but suspect i have faulty data cord might be cause maybe thats why comp is not reading phone. however when i put phone in disk drive it reads my sd card. yes I have phone in charge and dev mode weird i know.
 
hit another snag when I get to the "runindos.bat" I typed in adb devices and got the HTxxxxxxxxx device then typed runindos.bat on the next line and get an error message

Although you didn't mention what the error was, did you download the hack-v4 file and unzip to your c:\android-sdk-windows\tools directory?

Did you make sure that you unzipped the contents of the hack4.zip into the tools folder?
 
Quick question about KaosFroyo for Surgeon. Any way to disable the phone from rotating on home screens? Sense UI does this, and it's the only thing about KaosFroyo that I'm not liking.

Yup in settings click on CyanogenMod Settings then User Interface then uncheck the accelerometer rotation settings

Go to Settings>CyanogenMod settings>User interface, then uncheck Accelerometer rotations> 90>180>270.

Beat me to it, Surgeon is on it.
 
surgeon0214 Thank you for those instructions! It worked for me, two small bumps but I got over them. My phone now does everything I want!

alprazolam, thank you for the truly terrific step-by-step instruction for rooting and rom installation (on the first page).

What would be very useful for all of us to have a short list of the major rom versions, showing their main feature/advantages and their know issues (bugs).

I guess I should have been more specific. I want the browser, Facebook app, etc to rotate. I do not want the home screens to rotate, though. With Sense, if you're in landscape mode in the browser and you back out of it or press the home button, you're back at the home screen in portrait mode. Sense never lets you rotate a home screen. That's what I was talking about.

Are you running LauncherPro or ADW launcher?

ADW launcher.

Edit - Just download Launcher Pro Beta. It does the same thing and i didn't like it as much. This isn't a big deal, I was just wondering if anybody knew of a setting and where it was to change this.
 
Surgeon - One more question. You said the OC kernal is included in KaosFroyo Rom. Is is set at 710 mhz or do I need to do anything to clock it at 710 mhz? I'm assuming it's already clocked at 710 mhz.

Yes for launcherpro go into preferences > behavior settings > uncheck enable auto rotation

Its already set at 710 but if you want to set it higher download setCPU or overclock widget
