Droid X Vs. Incredible

I guess you haven't held the X, Incredible and Samsung Captivate(4" AMOLED) side by side playing the same HD YouTube videos.

The Sharpness, clarity and color vibrancy aren't even in the same ball park with the regular LCD screen on the Droid X as compared to the AMOLED on the Captivate or Incredible, not anywhere close.

I agree that the color and vibrancy are much better on AMOLED, but no way is sharpness. I have 20/15 vision and when I first switched from the DROID to the DINC, the only thing that bugged me (and still does a little) is the fact that you can easily see the pixels on the DINC's scree due to the stupid pentile or pent-a-cel format. The same is used on the Galaxy S series of phones. The AMOLED may trick your eye into thinking it's sharper but it's the same way photoshop "sharpens" images. Look up the Engadget article if you don't know what I'm talking about. I'm not an Apple/Iphone fanboy, but higher pixels mean sharper text an images and there's no beating the iphone 4 screen in that respect. The Droid's screen is sharper than the X's which is sharper than the DINC's. If Moto or HTC would make a 4.3" screen with a 720x1280 resolution it would destroy the competition (iphone) but not if they used that pentile junk. It will be really easy to compare if HTC releases a SLCD version of the Incredible.

I "Sense" a lot of hostility here. :p I'll just be working on my Droid X vs. Droid Incredible 8MP Camera Showdown.

If it makes any Incredible people feel better... as some of you might have read in my past posts - I was one who was on the fence and was leaning more towards the X before its release. My reasons were better call quality, I'll make $200 (using one of my line upgrades to buy X and then selling the Incredible), and ultimately I realized how much I browsed the web on my phone and wanted something bigger. Well.. I went to the store this weekend to play around with it... and having the phone right there.. it might be a little too big for my liking. Its funny because I've played with an HD2 and Evo and figured they were an ok size to fit in my pocket (I'm 6'2). However, being at the store, with the mindset of buying it for myself... I couldn't get past the size and now I hear the speaker phone isn't quite loud enough - which is important to me since I use speaker phone a lot. Lastly, the physical buttons felt "mushy" - I don't if its because its a display model, but I'll have to test a working model out. I actually want physical buttons for the home keys because I keep touching them on accident when I'm messing with the Incredible.

So now.. after being so sure about doing the trade in.. I'm about 59% sure I might just keep my Incredible and use the line upgrade when something better comes along. I'll probably head back and check out a working model and also see how it holds up in my pocket to make my final decision. We'll see.

On a side note, I flirted with the idea of getting the new Verizon Samsung phone when it comes out.. but I just can't get past the fact how much it looks like an iPhone. I know it has great hardware, but you'd think the designers would do something to differentiate themselves. Also I'm still skeptical of Samsung's record of updating their phones (lack of) - but I suppose thats what rooting is for.

OK, huge pet peeve. The 3D launcher SUCKS. It takes the viewable area down by 8 apps. The DInc doesn't have it stock, does it? (mine is on a FedEx truck, I can't wait.) Personally, I wish the DInc was 4-4.5", I like big phones, because I'm 6'1" and growing (I'm 15) and have relatively small hands (which is nice for typing on phone screens) and I always wear cargo shorts, so I have big pockets. However, the Milestone told me not to get an X. Locked, encrypted bootloader = no sale. That was actually the only thing that stopped me from buying one. I want FroYo and whatever interface I see fit to add.

Why did they even make physical buttons in the first place? With how great the sense 'buttons' work on the Incredible (NEVER unresponsive for me) - it seems like a no brainer that phones would be steering away from the physical buttons that can stick, feel mushy, etc.

Yea the sense 'buttons' were a problem on the Eris (unresponsive), but they sure figured something out on the Incredible because they are flawless now.

Strange.

Good deal. I looked at the X today and thought it was a phone I wouldn't mine having. Looking forward to your review.

I played with the X in a local Verizon store for 20 minutes yesterday. Really liked it except for no optical trackball, and a bit of stutter/lag from the blur ui. I love my inc, but the extra screen size of the X would really help with my big paws and pads on my fingertips. Also while the Inc screen has deeper contrast, overall the brighter LCD was maybe actually nicer side by side next to my Inc (both phones I had brightness maxed). The X was actually lighter feeling than my Inc, and I put the X into my front pocket with no issue. I also believe the X will get Froyo and other updates MUCH faster than the Inc. And I doubt I will be rooting either phone, so the efuse isn't much of an issue to me at this point. Overall, the stock sense UI blows the X ui out of the water, but I may ebay my Inc and make the switch mainly for the larger screen size. Haven't decided for sure yet though. I'm in no rush, will likely wait a few weeks to read more feedback on the X, and maybe that miraculous "froyo" update rumor for the Inc will happen an I'll just keep it.

well guys.....played with the X for 2 days at home as I was ready to upgrade from my Eris. I actually got 2 X's, one for me to try and one for my brother who has the iphone at AT&T. He tried the X for less than 30 minutes and told me to take it back, he also previously tried the Droid with the keyboard which he also did not like, what can I say he loves the iphone and will wait till Jan for VZ to finally get it.

Well I was ready to upgrade from my Eris as previously was going to get the Inc but obviously not available. My impressions of the X...just too big for me, even though I could get it in my pocket and hold in one hand, it was just to cumbersome for my tastes. The screen size was very nice for typing with either the swype which I have on my eris or just straight away because of how much space the keys have. The speed was blazing fast, but I found the same thing with the inc I played with in the store. The battery seemed about the same as my eris, a whole day of average use. The screen I found not as easy to read outside as the eris. I was really disappointed in the camera, it was hard to get the shutter speed to work right every time when clicking a picture. The HDMI was nice for photos but no movies? Call quality was nice but the speaker on my eris blows away the X on speaker phone as well as alarms, etc. I really like the eris but I do have to make sure I do not have too many apps running in the background otherwise the phone lags which the X did not and ran very fast.

I guess what I am looking for is something between the size of the eris and the X with the great processor the X has....I'd love to try the inc for a few days at home but unfortunately VZ does not have one for me to try....maybe I will take a look at the Samsung when it hits the VZ stores....GL with the inc...it looks like the perfect size phone for my needs...

The Inc is great, I just wish it was a tad wider, which would give a little more room for typing in profile. I can and do live with that minor annoyance tho because I love everything else about it.

Is this the Engadget article you meant: iPhone 4 Retina Display vs. Galaxy S Super AMOLED... fight! (updated) -- Engadget? It shows the poor close-up display of the DInc relative to the iP4, but it doesn't mention "pentile" or "pent-a-cel". An Engadget search for those terms didn't bring up anything from the past year.

i am not trying to smack talk at all, but the screen on the X looks like poop compared to the indredible. it looked very grainy to me, so far i have seen two of them, both the same grainy look. maybe its just the theme, maybe motoblur looks like that? i don't know. what i do know is that i won't give up my amoleds any time soon...

I agree I didnt love the screen, the phone is a beast and messing with the DX just showed me how much the DINC is amazing. i dont need anything else [at least now] in a phone. maybe in 6mo that could change but.... maybe not.

the only thing i want is a dock which doesnt exist for the dinc

I had the x for 2 days.

Hated everything except for the largeness of the screen.

The screen quality was crappy compared to the inc..

give me a super amoled dinc with 4 or 4.3" screen, front facing camera and dual core processor...and extra memory and that will be the perfect phone

^ This. Though I don't really care for the front facing camera, and have it come stock with a 2150 mah battery :D

No it won't...because then we'll be looking forward to quad core procs, high speed ram, 3d displays, etc.

There's no such thing as a perfect phone, or any other pece of technology.

Add in LTE (4G) and HDMI out. This is what I'm hoping for around Memorial Day next year when my annual upgrade is ready.

Gee I wonder which camera you will 'work' on making look better ;)

So... have you checked out my thread yet about it? You didn't make any comments on it. I have many more sample pic comparisons I can show you if you'd like. Also, check out Anandtech's article about the Droid X and see their comparison gallery. See how close the Droid X is to a DSLR vs. the Incredible. :)

But of course... you'll cry foul and say that I tampered with them and tried to make the Droid X's camera better time and time and time again. I can take 100 more and still produce the same results. I have my Incredible, I can show you more comparisons. :)

There's an Incredible user, mrspeedmaster, who says himself that the Droid X's camera is better. He knows a thing or two about photography... unless, you have more expertise and call his claims foul too.

No foul. It was a good comparison. I'm not sure how the accuracy could be fixed through settings - perhaps someone else can do some testing. The saturation when very light or reflective is unacceptable.

Speedmaster and others have noted that the camera can be easily improved with a software update - but is unlikely HTC would commit to this. Someone else noted that the leaked update improved the camera but I don't think this has been confirmed.

Nonetheless, they are both decent cameras. Both fine for on the go shots. I definitely didn't buy a phone expecting the camera to be like a real camera. Anyone who would is in for a reality check.

Quite frankly, the only time I'd use a phone camera is for insurance claims and random absurd public sitings. :p

While I love and appreciate good photography, I'm not the guy taking pictures when it's time to go out.
