It will be out by late summer. That means anytime between now and the end of September. There have been a few reported bugs that are being ironed out first. I suspect mid September!

I happened to get in touch with a friend who works at Verizon who is selling his old droid because he upgraded to an X. I asked him a few times about the update and He told me to keep my eyes open on the 23rd of August. Don't know how reliable it is, but made my heart flutter a bit.

Do we have a thread to make fun of people like this? Or is it kinda like making fun of the Millennium End of the World people?

So I am guessing it is a rolling release date? So not every DX user is updating at the same time. I have been manually checking every day to see if it’s available but no luck.

I think the leak is a verizon leak to be used as a beta. If it breaks your phone, then its your fault for hacking it.

Given Verizon's history with phones and (usually delayed) updates this seems quite unlikely to me. They could easily do a closed beta release if they chose to (I'm not aware of any US carrier that does something so intelligent and rational though). Also, given Motorola's response to the leaked release it would seem unwise of VZW to endanger the Motorola relationship in this fashion.

I agree.

I have always been the first to jump on leaks, roots, and hacked upgrades, but this time I am waiting for the official release. I have a funny feeling about this one and I feel that everyone who has installed the leak is in for a nasty surprise.
Hopefully I am wrong, but my gut instinct says to wait.

Not sure if there is a post about this already but I was just on my comcast account and they offer TV and movies to watch on your computer and/or mobile phone (up to 3 devices) if you have flash on froyo 2.2. So anyone with comcast cable the website is Fancast | Watch Full TV Shows and Movies | Free Online Streaming sign in with your comcast ID and password and it lets you watch instantly.....with 2.2! Check it out.

If there is a better thread for this please move.

Giving that Motorola and Verizon seem to be content to let what is supposed to be their flagship phone get passed up by all of the other older phones out there I don't see myself buying a new release phone again.First Droid gets 2.2 now Droid Incredible starting tomorrow. Why buy a new phone when the old ones get the newest updates first.Seems completely backwards from the way most companies work.Support your newest currently advertised product first then focus on your past models.

Well assuming your logic is true (which, by the way, I don't think it is!) then I guess we can look forward to getting Gingerbread before most everyone else. After all, by that point the DX will be an older phone in the VZW Android stable.

Seriously? You're going to complain about a difference of less than 1 month? Besides, you may be looking at it all the wrong way. Aside from the Droid 2, which released with 2.2, all of the other phones have been out longer than the Droid X so it makes sense that they get 2.2 first.

I mean, really, if it was like a few MONTHS difference, I could understand the complaint. But not a few WEEKS.

Yes if they follow their current trend.Going by their logic if they release a new phone in a few months running 2.2, then Ginger Bread comes out the Droid 2,DX and Incredible should get updated to it first. They have been wait longer and their phones has been out longer.Big deal you bought what was being promoted as the newest greatest phone out there.Your thanks for purchasing the newest device is being moved to the end of the line for OS system updates, because there will allways be older phones that have been waiting longer for their update.

It has a lot to do with the amount of manufacturer modifications to the ui. droid 1 is very vanilla therefore was rather easy. Droid X and Droid 2 seem to share the same changes.

Well, the Official (not the leaked version ;) )OTA Froyo for the Incredible is out today, and if you look at the Incredible on the Verizon site it now says it comes with Android 2.2 Froyo, so hopefully the X will get it soon too. With the Droid Incredible, Droid 1 and Droid 2 all having 2.2 now, the X is the only Droid with 2.1, and with it being their flagship Android device I can't imagine them letting it stay that way for too long.

a leak is like crack to a crackhead, ...and sometimes we just need a little something to take the edge off...i actually forgot there was still an update due...lol

I got a notification on my main screen that my system software has been upgraded. I went to check to see if it was 2.2 and it still shows 2.1 update 1. System version 1.13.604MB810.Verizon.en.US. Is this the part that was upgraded?

Yeah. There was an update shortly after the phone came out. If you just got it, it makes since you'd be getting it so late.
