"Tasker" is a BEAST! (in a good way)

The Power Plug In is soooo sweet. I downloaded Car Mode from Market..... in conjunction with power plug in..... so so so sweet.

What's the power Plug In?

I couldn't find the car mode on the market so i just created a car dock widget i put on my lock screen

I'm having a problem. I want to set brightness at max when the phone is plugged into AC power, autobrightness otherwise.

For the AC state I did-

Autobrightness off
Wait 2 seconds
Display Brightness 255

For the exit state I did

Auto-Brightness on

The problem is that when I plug my phone in to AC power the display is not changed to 255, or full brightness. It works, but only after I turn the screen off and on again. Any ideas?

Power plug in is on the tasker wiki profiles.

When you plug in your phone it has 3 profiles.... car, home, night.... they each do different things. (you can customize each one once you download)

You have to download the profiles and tasks to your computer... then move them into the task and profile folders under tasker on your sd card.

Car Mode - Android app on AppBrain (link to car mode app I used with power plug in)

Also, the cascade widget has some cool uses. It is a widget that pops up a menu .... you can make a game widget... then have it pop up sub categories of games and go back and forth if you need.

Step-Throughs & How-Tos - Tasker Wiki (look under cascade for the walk through)

Anyway, these walk-throughs and the profiles on the wikidot site are awesome!!!!

The task I downloaded had Display brightness level 255
THEN auto brightness off

Also, tasker doesnt always work if your phone is asleep when you plug it in

I suggest you use "power plug in" from the wiki page I linked above under "profiles"

I love it and the home mode is what you want

If I want to use Tasker to play different notification tones depending on the SMS sender, will the Tasker tones override the phone settings, or will I get two notification tones?

Why not just use tasker and turn off notifications in the SMS app?

Should be easy and avoids that question.

Im sorry for the redundant question, i never got a clear answer when i originally asked.

Can i use Tasker to mimic juicedefender and turn data on/off at a set interval?

In addition to the above, i would like to make it so when i unlock the phone, it turns data on. when i lock it, it goes back to its normal pattern of on/off

so when i unlock the phone i dont have to worry about manually switching it if i want to browse a site ...

thank you all, dropping "thanks" for helpful answers (good or bad news)

anyone know how to make a task to control the led lights (home, menu, back, search)

If you download the app "LEDs Hack", it puts a plug-in in Tasker that allows you to control the service via tasks. I have it set to turn off the LEDs at night (for when I use the desk clock as my night clock/alarm).

Awesome suggestion. The only thing I couldn't get to is reading the SMS out. I have the SayMyNameDessert which is fired on the received SMS context IF a %INTHECAR variable is set to 1 (matches, or math equals would work?), which the car mode task does. It doesn't want to read it out.

None the less, this profile and set of tasks is excellent. Thanks for pointing it out.
Hello,

Try this version of SayMyName. It should work much better with Tasker. :D

Good luck
Tom

I've had this app for a month or so now, and the concept is really fantastic. There's nothing else out there that can do what Tasker can. But I do have one major gripe.

At home, I don't have good 3G coverage, so I stick with Wifi. I created a location based context to use GPS and Net to turn on Wifi when I'm close to home. This works great. At home, I can do about my business and get Wifi automatically.

But because I have this context, it consistently checks my location even though I'm still at my house. And what happens while Tasker is checking? It turns off my wifi. This happens alot after I leave the phone to sleep and turn it back on. The context check would happen one after another with about 2 minutes (maybe less) time in between, all the while continuously turning my wifi on and off. Aggravating when you're in the thrown, and you just want to surf. And you keep getting kicked off wifi because Tasker needs to check where I am.

Is there a setting to prevent going back to normal state when doing a context check? Or is there another setting to prevent this issue?

Try using just GPS to locate in the task? M

Periodic Data Check (Juicedefender Replacement) - Tasker Wiki

I think you can figure out what you need from that link. I love downloading these and then modifying it for my needs. Download to computer and them put files in correct folders..... Import in and MODIFY!!!

Just getting into Tasker.

I have managed to use it to set icons to my likings with ease.

So I ventured one set farther to random wallpapers
Random wallpaper - Tasker Wiki

I followed it step by step ran into a few snags when I realized all my pics weren't the same file format, got that corrected.
I am running to 2 profiles for this (740am to 1900) and (1901 to 729am)

Profile Dark Walls:
1. Var Randomized
name %RANDOM min 1 max 23
2. Set Wallpaper
image DCIM/Walpapers/wallpaper%RANDOM.jpg
3 Wait
minutes 40
4 Gto Action
Num 1

Profile Exotic Walls
1. Var, Randomized
name %RANDOM min 1 max 9
2 Set Wallpaper
image DCIM/Walpapers/Erotic/exrotic%RANDOM.jpg
3. Wait
mintues 5
4 goto action
number 1

these just are working correctly unless I click test. They notification bar shows it to be running but there are not changing. Any ideas?

I also set up a silence on and silence off profiles and just noticed the sound is off right now so that profile worked.

EDIT:
I just rebooted and my background changed to one of the dark walls I guess I will see if it changes in 40 minutes.

do these require reboots after making changes?

I've had LEDs Hack but didn't realize there was a plug-in within Tasker. I have my own custom Night Mode setup but would always have to manually turn off the LED lights. Now my night mode is totally automated. Mucho thanks for the tip nubbard!

I have tasker task that opens a menu and I can select one of three sound/vibrate profiles that I have created. Is there a way to select an Icon from my gallery, or an icon pack? It seems to only let me pick it's canned set of icons, or app icons on the phone, or download some other of their icons.

I want to use ones I have in my gallery, or in icon packs on my phone.

Thoughts?

i need some help, i bought tasker, then my phone went haywire and i had to install skyraider...now i can't buy it from the market. it doesn't recognize that i paid. beautiful widgets worked fine...but no tasker :(

I add the blacklight.icn.zip icon pack into the tasker/icn. folder and just extracted to the icon folder tasked has in there from one of their icon downloads.

How did you pay before? Look on gmail or paypal account for the confirmation email for validation number.
When changing devices your suppose to realease the # via the tasker validation. I think I remember reading on the tasker site that you can contact them if something goes wrong.

sorry if this has been asked...the tasker threads are quite long.

is there a way to use tasker to automatically turn off keyguard/security pin if i am at home?

i tried changing the example on the wiki that checks if the phone is plugged in to disable keyguard but i think there are issues relying on gps. it worked for a while but then the home button became non functional until i disabled that profile.
