Software Update Coming to Fascinate, i500.DI01 (Not 2.2)

Mine did the same thing
 
Finally got it to work. I was trying to put back the minimum amount of bloat, but got fed up and just threw it all back, and it worked first try after that. :P

edit: Dang, it broke my root and I don't have a cable with me here at work to re-root with.
 
This sucks. I de-bloated, un rooted and still nothing. Im now trying a restore thru odin. All this for an update that probably wont affect me at all

I suggest you turn your phone off, then follow this:

How to go back To stock - Android Forums

..unroot guide.

It's very easy, as is rooting. Unrooting now will get you your phone back, plus the update.

Then you can re-root.

They may have not removed all of the pre-installed apps. There is something in this update trying to replace one of those apps that we removed. Just need to figure out which one or restore them all. I'm personally going to wait
 
So the real question is, anyone that was rooted and did this update and lost root, were you able to reroot?

My big thing is, I want to get rid of all the bloat and use wireless tether. I'm waiting to check for the update.
 
Hummmm. I agree with Howie. I don't think I'm even goint to worry about this one. Not sure its worth it. Those who have down loaded, do you notice anything different as in function????

Yeah I ended up going this route. The link provided actually takes you to this original link which has a slightly more detailed explanation of what and how to do it. The System.tar.md5 file is something like 300mb+ so it takes awhile to DL. But once you do it took me 2m18sec to flash this and sure as sugar it gave me the out of the box stuff. So all the bloat is back but oddly my google search is still there oh well. My update is finally applying the right way :rolleyes:
 
Yeah I've been 10 plus minutes on the screen where the white box and the arrow and the green android guy are. I even pulled the battery and re-booted and its still gets stuck on this screen
 
The modem is the part that took the longest for me. Although it was still only a couple minutes long, so not sure what's going on with your phone..
 
God in heaven that literally took 20-25 minutes for the thing to come back to life and I still got the damn : IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED.
 
Ok, this is wierd. I only tried the update once and it did not let me, so I did not try again as I dont care to much about it. I picked up my phone to make a call. It has the Andriod system recovery page with the white triangle and yellow ! inside it. Has the green android guy below it. It has 4 options to chose from.
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cashe partition
What the heck do I do here??????
 
On the phone with verizion tier level 2 and they are stating that 2.2 push is beginning tomorrow. Got one update today and they state by the end of week should have 2.2 on the phone.
 
ok, re-booted. Seems to all be ok. Quick question. I downloaded OCLF (Lag fix) from the market. It gives the option of un-rooting via this app. Does that really work? It also had the one click option of root. Does that really work? Or do I need to go through the actual root process?

They are lying.

Someone asked a few posts up if you can reroot. Yes you can.
 
I did not ask them They were trouble shooting my phone and stated it is not the latest and 2.2 is rolling out. They are supposed to call me back tomorrow night to do some more trouble shooting. Their system was saying 2.2 is the current version for the fascinate. Maybe their system is wrong maybe not. Only time will tell. I got the other update today and it went flawless but really want my teathering issues resolved. Never once did I mention 2.2 until after they said there system said 2.2 was latest and then I asked again if they are sure 2.2 is the latest and they said yes that is what the system says the latest software update is and is rolling out slowly starting tomorrow. I am kinda skeptical but why would they bring it up and say their system says that 2.1 update 1 is not the latest and 2.2 is ?
 
Seems Im the only one who is screwed here then. Ugh no help from xda, Im about to give up

Not saying you are lying that they said it, i'm just saying they don't know what they are talking about. If Froyo was pushing tomorrow, there would be more news about it. What is getting Froyo is the Droid X, maybe they goofed up what device they were talking about or saw on the computer (though I believe that actually started today).

The push goes out in increments, so you may not have gotten it yet. You can also use the link above to force it if you want.
 
I was rooted, lagfixed, and removed some bloat, and the update seems to have worked... I guess I still had the bloat that it needed. It did remove root though. Also, if I go into System updates in the About phone section, and click Status, I get a bunch of garbled characters. Anyone else?
 
I was pretty sure they screwed up with the info but some reason she reassured me that 2.2 is releasing. I would be surprised if it is and there is no news about it.
