Root [ROM] ApeX V1.0 for Droid X - An AOSP Experience (10/20/10)

If it helps you, I found that my car stereo will connect after maybe 3-5 minutes of being in the car, but it won't connect the phone portion, just media. Just found that out today - I don't think I had waited a full 5 minutes during any of my other testing.

Just eventually connected after I drove around long enough with my phone in my pocket.
Mine actually connects instantly to the stereo, it's just the phone that never does. I have to turn BT off and then back on to get it to connect both.

I did the 2.2 SBF -> root -> Apex RC2 and I still get random reboots. I think this is more a problem with the OTA than ApeX. Moto has already acknowledged there is a bug causing random reboots.

The 2.1 OTA? Because I never installed the 2.2 OTA, and I wasn't having random reboots on the 2.1 OTA.

Was there ever a 2.1 OTA, if there was I don't remember it? I was on the leaked 2.2 since it was released and had no reboots, I have had them since going to the official 2.2.

Of course Moto isn't going to acknowledge bugs in a non official version, they only came out and admitted there were problems after the official OTA had been released.

I did, and it didn't help. I tried rebooting a few times, and still no go. It was like that all night. I woke up at around 3AM (about 4 hours after installation) to check the signal status, and still the same.

I just called my fiancee, and after a full charge, it seems she has 4 bars now....that's a little strange....I will continue to monitor it to see what happens.

Funny you should mention this. (NOTE: I did not install APeX yet).

I used the 928 black glass theme to deodex. Then I installed Tom's blackbar mod, as well as Fab's vanilla lock slider and Nextheme. Things were running ok, but the combination of the themes was bothering me.

So, I restored my nandroid backup via Droid X Bootstrapper and all is well. Except for the fact that my signal status meter is now twonked. Maybe installing themes etc can cause it to be messed up?

So I did a *22899 and it did not make it any better. So did a *228 option 2 and its a lil better, but not like it was before I themed my X.

At this point, I may just deal and wait for Fab to release APeX 1.0 to give it a shot with a clean install. If not, may just do a factory reset and hope for the best. If you find anything out, let me know and I will do the same.

Cheers.

P.S. Anyone have issues trying to manually deodex? I tried this and it just sat at starting daemon.

[HOW-TO] Manually deodex your phone.

Thanks!

Here is how I tackled this... I deodex'd using 928, then installed ApeX RC2... After that I did a factory reset and installed the Blackbar mod....

Not a single issue here... It's lightning fast, signal bar is maxed out and absolutely no FC's...

Good to know. I think that Apec RC2 will deodex the phone when you install it though correct? Or no? If so, is there a reason that you ran the deodex 928 first?

So if you do a factory reset after the install of Apex RC2, it just keeps you at Apex RC2 and not stock?

Sorry, just trying to clarify here.

Thanks!

As far as I know Apex will not deodex.. I ran 928 to deodex, then ApeX per the instructions of format system, data, cache, mount and install....

Then after reboot I did a factory reset and once booted I was left with a deoxed Apex... After that I installed the blackbar and have had zero issues...

This is exactly what I have been looking for. Big time kudos for all the work you must have put in on it. Out of curiosity, does the stock launcher/theme (Tranquility) have any customization options?

Did you ever try what I suggested? It would overwrite the /system while retaining all your apps, giving you a fresh start and possibly fixing any problems you had with the old nandroid. Then if the problems persist you can do a completely clean install (wipe system, data, and cache) or wait for the next release.

I still don't understand how to pull the stock messaging application from the SBF and no one here has offered to help me. :( I'm sad.

ApeX is deodexed. Doesn't matter what is installed previously, ApeX completely overwrites it.

I thought it was, thanks Fab. :) Won't have to bother with the 928 then.

I have not tried it yet, mainly because Fab said after your post that things may get weird if I don't do a full clean install. At this point, I may wait until 1.0. Thanks though!

I just installed the rom and it's awesome but I can't get it to be recognized on my computer. Anyone have any advice?

Edit: Just got it. Loving the rom so far. Thanks!

Here is the weird part.... The 1st time I ran ApeX, I look in system/app and there were still odexed files...

When I ran the 928 then Apex, I have NO odexed files at all now...

Maybe I hit a glitch on the 1st install?

So I can upgrade from RC2 to 1.0 without losing my apps and settings?

Also I have a pretty stable 1.2 GHz setscaling.sh, what is the best way to keep it instead of the built in overclocking?

Thanks again for the great work Fab.

So how do I go about installing these correctly?

Extract the desired .apk files and place them on your sdcard

Then, in terminal emulator:

su
install desiredapk.apk

Place a copy of your setscaling.sh on your sdcard

In terminal emulator:

su
overclock -sd

:)

----------------------

Release 1.0 is available in the 1st post now. The install instructions HAVE CHANGED.

No longer need to mount /system. Please read instructions carefully. Installing from ROM manager is now possible ;)

Also, read the 2nd post on how to use the overclock script.

Thanks, enjoy!

I am trying to install but I can not boot into recovery using either bootstrap or Rom manager. Does this have something to do with running the install-recovery.sh after overclocking? When I try to boot into recovery my phone just restarts and boots normally, any ideas?
