First Droid Eris update makes the slow OTA rollout starting tonight

someone should start a poll.
- Who was too impatient to wait & did manual update
- Who doesn't really care
- Who got the OTA
- Who doesn't know an update is coming

i'd be on the impatient one

It doesnt seem like there is anything worth updating.

One thing that concerns me is this info that phonenews.com posted today:
"... the device will be reset to factory settings and all data must be backed up beforehand..." I've heard this before regarding HTC updates.
Could anyone who has updated their Eris comment on this?

The manual update installs the entire rom image where as the OTA updates the existing files. Anyway, there is no drawback to doing the manual method. Yes, it wil delete everything on the phone. Think of it this way...re-formatting your hard drive on your computer and re-installing the OS.

I actually prefer manual updates. Of course, I am used to it coming from a Touch Pro 2 and cooking roms.

ditto...about to go back to my omnia rom days and just wipe it and reinstall!
cant...wait...any longer captain!

My understanding is that the manual update does a full reset. My wife's phone updated OTA this morning, it was NOT a full reset. It looked just like her phone when it got done. :)

Got the update this morning. It stays on 3g now which is nice. Haven't seen any really adverse effects, but sometimes now when i unlock the phone or press the end button it will be on one of the side pages and not the center home page. Don't know if it is a glitch or just supposed to happen. Anyone else experience this?

Please tell, how do I back up and restore all my contacts, settings, widgets, music, photos, :confused:etc.?

Contacts automatically sync with gmail when u sign in again after u upgrade. Photos, music, and files on microSD are untouched. Widgets have to be re-installed but they show up in the market under My Downloads so at least u dont have to search. I didnt know how to save bookmarks so i typed the urls into an email to myself and opened that email n clicked n re-bookmarked.

Other settings had to be reconfigured.

Gmail will only sync if you have that setting checked.

Go to the settings and make sure it's been backed up recently.

I got the update here this morning in Northern Virginia. I turned my Mobile Network on and received the update shortly thereafter. It took about 6-8 minutes to update. I haven't noticed anything different so far...

Not sure if I got it yet or not...I did get updates for apps (I thought that what it was), but declined because of poor signal this AM. Now I can't figure out how to go back to that message on notifications panel to get even those updates?
Can someone help me figure that out please?

Menu> Settings> About Phone> System Updates

If you declined the OTA update, it should be sitting here, waiting for you to accept it .

BTW..............where's my up-date, don't they know who I am ?

Just kidding, I'll wait patiently for OTA.............personally my phone has been running like a champ !

Received the update this morning when I went to take phone off charger. Phone was working fine before update and is working fine after update. Only thing I notice is better battery life and better signal. I am happy with my Eris and now will patiently wait for 2.01 or whatever and just enjoy my phone and apps.

looks like a lot of us are getting impatient, lol

I'm getting impatient for my upgrade (of course my wife got hers, not that she CARES... (sigh) ). But I don't think I'll get THAT impatient. I don't feel like recreating my scene, downloading the programs etc etc. So I guess I'll just keep waiting for Verizon to notice that I'm here.

Hey guys former lurker here who finally joined in. Love the Eris, not the batt life, and I'm wondering if I should've waited for a Dragon...

I called VZW to ask/complain about batt life and the tech support gal told me to WAIT on the update.... Hahaha... She said she just had a call from somone who's Eris was good before the update and that the update FROZE his phone. She said it might be good to wait. Now I'm really confused! Anyone have a BAD outcome from the updates? I like to hear the good ones, but now I'm dragging my feet.

THX.

I've been reading the forum for a while and I've seen nearly all good feedback. The eris is a great phone and will get better. The dragon or passion or whatever will be a high end phone and its price will reflect that. The eris is the best Android going today and will be for several more months.
