Update coming, but not 2.2

So the lights stay on as long as the screen is on, like even if you're watching a movie or reading on kindle?

Ew... :)

Oh well, a lot of people complained about the lights. Just wish there was an option. I know where the buttons are in the dark, lol

i guess just dont use the softkeys after unlocking when watching a movie and you should be ok

Yea I agree. It seems like they took the easy way out. I am not sure what would have made it so hard to add a separate setting for the soft keys and make it selectable.

Oh well, I guess it is better than nothing.

Actually just tested it. You are correct, as long as you don't touch the soft keys they won't light. But they did turn off while watching a movie.

They deactivate based off the display timeout (even though the display is still active).

maybe the video player has something built in for that? Guessing it might not be as easy in Skyfire or androidvideo.net. Those might not appreciate the locking the screen either

Guess the fix doesn't do that much good for people in the dark if the lights don't turn on automatically with the screen when you first pull out the phone.

The Skyfire video player is working the same as the built in video player. Same with Androidvideo.net.

The video plays but the softkeys go out according to the your display timeout.

So I've been out a few days because of boring school, I come back and find this posting??

So is there a link to install this "update" as well as instructions? Or are the rest of us just waiting until its "officially" out there?

Ugh. Would rather not have the lights on all the time. Guess I'll have to wait until BLN behavior is hacked back into it, though I suppose without source that could be a while.

as per JT's instructions DJ05 is not to be linked in forums...you have to head over to irc and have someone link you if they are feeling nice :)

Does this also require the phone to be rooted? Are there any drawbacks to installing this version? If this version is installed, could you still update with the official one that is pushed from verizon in case there are any other changes?

you need cwr to install...i mean technically you can have cwr w/o root but i dont know why :)

if you update your radio you take the risk of being screwed by vzw's changes to the official update or if they skip it and change the radio for froyo.

a lot of us view the risks as minimal and going forward until 2.2 id assume all development will be based of DJ05

I'm with you, I rather liked that they didn't stay lit for long. Might have to tap a couple times to find a button in the dark, but still better than on all the time. Didn't think I'd like BLN, but now I rather enjoy checking email just by looking at my phone on my desk.

Really, I'm fine with my phone the way it is. Not that I won't flash new kernels, and there are a couple 2.2 things (like sending audio to docks) I'm looking forward to, but in the case of this update I think I'll wait a while until more tweaks are out for it.

Won't they need to sooner or later post it on the forums if they plan to base all development off of it?
