Update coming, but not 2.2

Is it possible to get the leaked update without being rooted?

Or at least get it without loosing anything or having to go back to default?

You need clockwork recovery so if ur not rooted u most likely don't have cwr.

U don't HAVE to wipe data going to DJ05 but I always wipe between roms call it an ocd. Thing:D

Any news on this update? Any rumored release dates? I am more excited to get this release primarily because that means Froyo shouldn't be too far away.

Testing still scheduled to finish on the 29th. OTA can occur anytime after. No dates for that yet.

The fascinate is probably the only verizon android device with the least issues at launch. I don't mind waiting for updates my phone works great no issues here!

The Fascinate is a great phone. But there are issues. GPS is an issue and Bing is an issue.

Bwahahah. You have been touting the thing as the best phone on Verizon, which is fine since it's ultimately an opinionated thing with any product, but this current claim is quite the farce.

It's not like other phones haven't had their share of issues.. but aside from minor issues that most new phones share, the Fascinate has/had some pretty heavy ones experienced by quite a notable amount:

Call quality (echo, incoming static, sound tinny on the other person's end, more than average background noise leakage)
Lag due to Samsung making a poor choice with the file system
GPS issues.. all can agree on at least this one, whether it be locking quickly or even being able to hold a lock
Bing.. subjective, but for those who don't like it and aren't part of the small percentage of owners who root, they have to look up how to minimize the traces

Just because you received a build that works fine doesn't mean everyone is just as lucky. Again, it's a great phone, and definitely one of the top ones to own if you love to root, but your claim is rather laughable.

I read all that and all I got out of it was the word laughable..but what I think is "laughable" is the X guy hanging out in the fascinate forum. Could it be that he thinks the fascinate is fascinating? And wishes maybe he would have got 1 instead.. Who knows?

Totally agree. The HTC Incredible was the best phone i ever owned. 3-4 bars at all times, blazing fast 3g, and zero hardware issues. it was like talking on a landline. i sold this and bought a fascinate that has extreme sidetone, a crappy signal that averages almost 50% without signal, and 3g that is like dial-up, making me go in and out of airplane mode to keep the page loading. Being the phone nerd i am I HAD to have the next thing. Huge mistake on my part. However....everyone has a different opinion. Now i am stuck until the Iphone comes out for verizon in January!

No, some on this side of the forums have seen me here for quite some time, and those people know I'm not the type that feels any one phone is superior just because I own it. For a while I was on the fence between the X and the SF. Both are great devices, and both have positive and negative aspects appealing or not to different crowds.

I still hang around here because I like to keep up with Samsung's care of its customers for when I upgrade my phone in probably a year. I also have a few different friends who own the SF, in which I got to toy with extensively prior to purchasing a phone, so I keep up to speed with things for them.

I bet you thought you were being witty or clever, but as you can see you had it all wrong :]

No not really I have saw you around..just seeing who would jump on my post..no harm meant from it at all
:D

And I have no problem with any phone as long as its run by a lil green man and isn't fruity..

Griswolds53, OMG, he's going off the deep end and defecting to Steve Jobs. Sounds like an intervention and 8 weeks in rehab are in order

i liked my incredible a lot, however i will say that enjoy my fascinate (even on 2.1 a lot more) my incredible seems meh and too tiny next to it. my 3g is the same speed and wifi is faster with my fascinate and neither phone i had call issues with. i do miss the staggering amount of roms available on my inc though as my wife uses it now.

and the iphone on verizon = :(. not to judge but the iphone????? really????

yeah rehpyc its good to see you and other dxers and android guys hang around here :) jreed pointed out once that it enhances the sense of an android community and i completely agree...lively debate and opinions usually make for some great discussion

everyone has their own opinions and are welcome to them. ive made mine, but i appreciate others feel differently :D

I also just want to say that I see alot of people asking questions about the update and getting alot of answers like "flash this ROM" or "Just root". Well, some of these people are asking because they are not confortable enough to root and start flashing ROMs or dont have a clue what you are talking about with all the "you need this kernel with this rom" stuff. What this ultimately causes is people to root and thinking that all this is done by simple means like downloading something to the phone and thats it. I have done this a few times and really messed up my phone. So....for those of you thinking about doing this RESEARCH and ask questions. I have seen alot of I bricked topics. I know you have to start somewhere, but be careful and be smart.
Now that Ive said that, For those of us without the means to root and flash, it would be nice to have that update and cant wait to see it out.

I hope noone takes offense to anything, I just had experiences in the past with trying to do things I shouldnt have been trying and messed up my phone.

good post :)

i agree that if you arent comfortable with doing something like root, then dont do it. i guess a lot of the root crowd at times (i know i do) see a milion threads about complaints that havent been issues for us for awhile and the knee jerk reaction is, "well just do this and get is over with "

personally i feel root/rom/kernels are really easy but i also consider my self kinda tech savy :)

but very good point that you shouldnt have to hack ur phone to make it usable
