Wait till 4g to get an Incredible.

yeah I constantly upgrade yearly, and from past experience there is no early upgrade fee of 20 dollars. You just have to pay for the phone at its "2 year" price.

The 2 year upgrade is where Verizon will give you $100 towards a new phone, however it's a rip off. With all the mail in rebates they offer now, you rarely qualify for a full 100 bucks, they credit you with the mail in rebate and then subtract that from your new every 2 100 credit. It's bullshit if you ask me, but the 1 year is nice cause you qualify for the "2 year price" and can take advantage of any online offerings as well as mail in rebates. I was 1 year into my last phone and I qualified for my dinc on pre-order which was the intro price of 199.

Exactly, its more of a "next generation " type of thing.

I forget the actual speed 4g is classified as but I know this is not it

IIRC, it is 100 megabits for mobile clients and 1 gigabit for stationary.

Current "4G" technology is something in the range of 5 to 12 megabits so thy are all a world away. Hopefully they can fully use the 700mhz spectrum as anticipated.

Ridiculous! And two years down the road we will all have no choice but to be on 4g. Money hungry assholes! Why would it be 20 bucks more?

Lol. You will never "have" to be on 4g. Even with 3g out now, there are phones that operate on 1xRTT. So i'm sure you will have the 3g or 4g option in two years. Unless by some miracle 5g is rolled out by then.

Yeah, I was just looking at that to. 5GB a month is $50 which is $20 more than an unlimited 3G plan. Are you guys willing to pay that? I don't think I am as I usually just use wifi.

The plan that Verizon announced are NOT for phones, but for USB connections and cards. If you currently look the the 3g USB/cards plans the 4g cost is $10 cheaper for 5gb.

Verizon will more than likely announce the phone plans at CES.

I heard its going to be $10 less than the 29.99 price now.

If this is true then I think the 4g phone plan will be the same plan as the tablet plan - 1gb for $20, 3gb for $35, 5gb for $50, and 10gb for $80; $10 for each 1gb over.

The 1gb plan is for the tablets only
The 3gb plan is a promo plan, not sure how long it will be around.
5gb for $50 is for the MiFi only
5gb for the usb is $60

I also upgrade yearly in the past. The BlackBerry i had before i just got my incredible was the only phone i held onto for almost 2 years. I upgraded few weeks ago and they charged an extra $20. I believe this is a new charge.

So this $20 is true.

As for Verizon to get 4g phones dont plan on seeing it anytime soon. They will be using 4g devices like for laptops and so on before going to 4g phones. The phone will not be out for a while. Which is why i ended up getting an Incredible. I was going to hold out for a phone but they wont have any for a long time.

4G for Verizon is true 4G. (They use LTE for their 4G Service) If you wiki LTE it will let you know more about the network. Verizon isnt going to have their backbone to support the full service 100Mb/down+ right out of the gate but as it builds it will upgrade to supply faster services. Verizon's 5-12Mbps download and 2-5Mbps upload speeds are amazing. The term 4G is thrown out there on other companies services as their recognition of 4th Generation of their services. It's faster than 3rd Generation therefore they call it 4G. Verizon's 4G compared to the others are not really close to speed of service. As I see it you pay for what you get. You want the best you need to pay a lil more than other companies. I think Verizon's prices are worth it. I'm sure Verizon will have an unlimitted plan on the data usage for smartphones unless you use tethering plan of course. Just like the 3G plans. Also, LTE mean Long Term Evolution. There might not be a term 5G anytime soon unless they move away from LTE to another backbone. Or an addon. 4G is here to stay for a good while.

A look at current 4G versus verizon is listed here:

4G for Verizon is true 4G. [/URL]

No it isn't. It does not meet the ITU definition of 4G. That is 100mb/s for mobile devices (ie cellphones) and 1gb/s for stationary (ie modems). The website you posted claims a peak speed of 12mb/s. It's alot faster than the current speed, but is not 4g. The current LTE protocol simply CANNOT meet those standards. Future variations should be able to, but not this one.

Granted, it's probably the closest to true 4g of any that are rolling out now...

Well, according to WikiPedia, VZW's LTE network will be compatible with LTE-Advanced, when it comes out

Compatible does not mean that it will perform at the speed of LTE-Advanced.

The net/net is that VZW's LTE (or WiMax or HSPA+) are not 4G technologies per the standard, they are just being marketed that way.

Call them pre-4G I guess.
