Root How to "root" the LG Ally

Can anyone give me the simplest way to backup my system apps/.apks like amazon and skype mobile? I want to uninstall them and then be able to get them back on later. I tried titanium backup but that doesn't back up system apps, only the info.

Look at the "Removing System APK's" section of this page.

Universal Androot.

Android Ally

Download either version. They have been confirmed to work with ZVB on the ally.

Download and use Universal Androot!

AHHHHH!!!!! Thank you so much! That worked. I had been trying all of the other methods in this thread with no success in rooting my Ally. But Z4Root worked great! xD

Thanks also to everybody who offered help in this thread, and who did all the work on the manual root programs and instructions. It's nice of u all to take time out of ur life to help people like me. Take care

Ok! So I'm a newb and I know only what I have tried to learn from this forum, which has been quite helpful, but everything I seem to have done or tried to do has simply just not worked. I've tried installing z4root, universal androot, and even tried using the instructions posted for rooting with windows command prompt! My ally has superuser on it, and it was showing some apps after I rooted with z4root! But now there is nothing showing in superuser and when I try to open root apps it says that I do no have root permission! This is very frustrating because I have been at this whole process for days only to have gone in one complete circle with no end in sight. I will take screen shots or do whatever it takes to get this sorted out if I can get the right guidance from anybody! I just need to know what step is next! Please help this poor fool....lol:(....btw when I tried using the windows method...I kept taking the card out and putting it back in, but I could never get the success or the #!

That's because you haven't used an app that requires superuser access..
Yeah I apparently gained root access for a brief moment temporarily with z4root and I accessed setcpu for a moment and tried to permanent root with z4root. I could see the apps in superuser then after my phone rebooted nothing has had root access since! Nothing shows up in superuser!

Try using the permanent root method next time. The temporary root only applies until you reboot your phone, which is why all of your info was gone.

At step 10, where you're suppose to get:
"SUCCESS: Enjoy the shell."

I don't get the success part, the last line is just:
"Opening: /proc/4440/fd/3:

I think it's suppose to say "/proc/15544/fd/3"

any help?

I know people say to use universal androot and z4root, but i haven't had either work for me yet.

Well if your on SW version VS740ZVB the command line way wont work. I will assume thats the same way with VS740ZVC.

Yes the command line rooting has been patched for good. you have to use z4root or universal androot if on vzb with vzc you have to use z4 root
