Is This An Upgrade From Evo?

Now that the official spec is out, is this worth an upgrade from the Evo? Got the Evo for $ 99 a couple weeks ago.

Give up screen size and 200mhz for 2GB Rom? NTY.
Regarding the processor, it's not simply a numbers game. The next-gen 800mhz processor on this thing blows the EVO's first-gen 1Ghz processor out of the water on benchmark tests.

As far as screen size, it's relative to phone size, and people may be intimidated by the EVO's size. While you and me may look at it as giving up screen size, others may welcome a more pocketable device.

To answer the OP's question, this isn't an upgrade from an EVO. It wasn't intended to be. It's just an alternative offering and an addition to Sprint's 4G family and EVO family of phones. If you've had an EVO or Epic, you'll want to wait for the next wave of phones.

^exactly right on the processor. I am glad I am not the only one that has noticed this.

That processor has been successfully and stably over clocked to well beyond TWICE that label of 800 mhz and the benchmarks are mind blowing

is it a replacement...no
successor...no
badass...potentially

I just don't understand why the screen isn't slcd and 3.7 inches. Why in the hell did they go out of their way to make it slightly smaller lol? Also, i've said this before, but why the 65k color screen? I like the phone, but i think they cut a few corners for no reason. Gonna stick with my Evo 1 till the new Evo 2 comes out.

This kinda might be like Sprints' way of having a recognizable name for their line of Android Phones. Verizon had the original Droid, which was huge and had lots of press. Now sort of similar with the Evo. And then Verizon had the "Droid Incredible". Now Sprint has the Evo Shift. I don't know maybe I'm reaching but it could be what they're going for.

Verizon has the Droids Sprint will have the Evos. Maybe? Sounds plausible. Its all about name recognition.

My Hero is dying, and I was hoping Sprint would have more than just this to offer at CES. It makes me sad that the LG 2X has GSM, we'll never see it...

Actually that's exactly what they're going for.

Root the Hero;) Plenty of helpful people in the Sprint Hero all things root section to point you in the right direction:)

yeah.. not an upgrade.. but a "shift".

it is another option for sprint clients.. that dont want the EPIC .. and dont want the EVO size.

fill in the gap between the 2 phones... I am sure they will come out soon.. for a 3.8" screen with no KB.

IMO it depends on what you consider an upgrade. Plenty of people look strictly at the processor. If you are one of those, it certainly is an upgrade. If, like me, you like things like dual LED flash, the front facing camera (I am crossing my fingers for skype video chat around the corner), and the larger screen, it is not an upgrade at all. Faster processors are nice and all, but I am by no means displeased with what I have with the original EVO, even if the benchmarks on this new one blow the old one out of the water. Give it six months, when the true successor to the EVO is launched (rumors but they would be stupid not to IMO), and that will blow everything out of the water, yet again.

My 2 cents- Not an upgrade at all, and Ive now used both. Yeah its early for the Shift but the only significantly different thing to me is the screen looks a bit sharper. If you were coming from the EVO then not having a keyboard probably wasnt a dealbreaker.

5-6 hours seems to be a normal thing with smart phones(as far as im concerned)

From my droids(OG, incredible, eris, and X) to xperia to evo to captivate and now on my hd7

With heavy use, i only get about 5 hours lol...If there is a phone that can give me more than that, i might check it out
