Pandora on the EVO

is the problem.. on phones with SPRINT???

has anyone noticed friends on other carriers with the same issue???

^^^ so.. asking pandora will not be productive.

maybe we need to show this to sprint... they might help and fix the issue.

LOL.. i just crack myself up.

Our aria on att does not do it but that being said..my prior sprint phone had no issue streaming pandora either. I have hafmd the same drive to an from work since I bought my house in 06. I am hoping to have time to take my phone over to a repair friend of mine next week to see if he can find anything wrong

You have to keep the app on the phone in order for it to show the widget, but it's only 1 widget and looks REALLY bad. It basically just says PANDORA with a black background and doesn't really serve any purpose except for opening the app...LOL.

FYI - If you already transferred Pandora to SD, you have to uninstall and then re-install in order for the widget to be available (quirk that I've found with many Android apps).

I just made a custom one that did the same exact thing.

Thanks I thought I was losing out on something. Lol

maybe it is a location combined with sprint.. is the issue...
since there are clearly those that have no issues.

I am Dallas/ft worth area. i have issue same as Mr Ed.

I must disagree. The widget allows you to pause, play, skip as well as provide a thumbs down or up designation for a song.

I really like the widget, but if I pause the music, and come back several hours later, the widget doesn't start the music back. I have to open Pandora to get it started again.

Yeah, Mr. Ed had corrected me on the play/skip/pause and thumbs up or down info, but it's still a terrible looking widget. I'd rather go into the actual app than use the widget.

He sure did, but I missed it because he didn't quote you...all he used was "^"

So I am sorry for bringing more attention to this than was needed :o...and this post where I apologize brings even more attention... :p

My original settings:
RTSP proxy port: 554
RTSP proxy address: rtsp.vog.sprintpcs.com
HTTP PD Proxy Port: 8085
HTTP PD Proxy Address: pd.vog.sprintpcs.com

My new settings:
RTSP proxy port: 0
RTSP proxy address: 0
HTTP PD Proxy Port: 0
HTTP PD Proxy Address: 0

Holy crap, how did we not figure this out before. All mobile data applications appear to operate much smoother and faster. Even if this doesn't help Pandora, everyone should do this anyway. I didn't do a speed test before hand but these are my results now:
800kbps down / 300kbps up and ping is ~120ms

I have Pandora running right now. Typically it fails in the first or second song. So far no failures. And the application loads and gets going MUCH faster. No long delays between songs either. Continuing to test all evening.

Something told me not to change these settings...and I held out until today. Well, I changed them, and Pandora "seemed" to run better, but I didn't give it a full test.

However, 4G wasn't working well. It would not load web pages (though 3G did). So I added this stuff back, and now it doesn't connect to 4G at all. I have triple checked the spelling, and I know that these 4 settings were the only ones changed.

I'll tinker with it some more before I call Sprint.

if you put everything back.. and rebooted (just in case).
and 4G is not connecting

maybe it is something else... network issue or a new app you loaded or changed.

I switched the settings back to standard and it works fine. So setting things to zero's doesn't seem to work for me at all

RTSP proxy port: 554
RTSP proxy address: rtsp.vog.sprintpcs.com
HTTP PD Proxy Port: 8085
HTTP PD Proxy Address: pd.vog.sprintpcs.com
Is what I changed it back to

I wasn't so lucky. I got my 4g working. I think the network was down. Also, a reboot seems necessary for the changes to take affect.

Back to me being unlucky. Streaming doesn't work anymore. Pandora, Rhapsody, Sprint TV...they all don't work anymore on 3g. All settings have been restored. Pandora and Rhapsody both work fine on wifi.

This sucks ass.

Try a battery pull.

yup I tried as well didn't work. but after looking closer at the settings I noticed something. there was a space in front of the proxy address for both rtsp and http. I noticed when filling in the port information it would always start with a space but immediately give an error stating that the field must contain only numbers. unfortunately the proxy address field did not have such an error message. any idea why it always wants to insert a space at the beginning?

I suppose these settings aren't goal since it didn't affect wifi. I'm just glad it's working now

Tried the proxy server thing. No luck. Kept getting the error, "Sorry, I'm unable to retrieve music from Pandora.com" Put the servers back, and it works again, but with the same skipping bug.

Well, I am happy to report since rooting, rom'ing and doing the proxy server fix I have only had 2 skips in maybe 14-16 hours of playing time! One of those was explainable as all signal went to zero.

On another note, I was running Pandora for a 240 mile trip yesterday and it performed flawlessly, even where signal was almost non-existent, I can't place calls in that area. Add to that on the return trip I was playing Angry Birds at the same time as well as checking and responding to emails! Don't worry, my helper was driving, I don't mess with my phone while driving...sleeping, that's another matter.

I continue to be amazed by this phone.

thanks for the search link mr.ed! I am now using the smoked glass version of pandora 1.1.2

yeah I know its old, but its working and looks better. I'll let you guys know how it works this week.

I had another day of stationary listening for well over 8 hours on wifi...great sound quality. This morning got in the car and got the crappy sound and turned it off prior to getting to any skips (note this was back on 1.5.3) I have a new idea about the issue that I have mentioned before. I am going to stop by a sprint store tomorrow and chat with them about something

I'm not entirely sure if this is relevant or not, but I have a somewhat similar problem with slacker radio, which I was trying as an alternative to the malfunctioning Pandora. On Wifi it works great, but as soon as I'm on 3g, I get a, "Playback Error; Error Code: 1, -1004; Press play to restart station," message. I have't tried lastfm yet, but this makes me think there might be something wrong with the way the Evo handles these music apps on 3g.

A trick that seems to help......but not a fix.

Open google search and type something in, anything.
Let it pull up the search but dont go to any web page.
Press home and leave the Internet running in the background.
Open Pandora and play..........

And I use my task killer to close Gmail and any other stuff I'm not using...

Its still skipping, but alot less than when I close the internet in the background.....
