On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being the fastest increase) ...how much faster would you say the Icarus has made your phone?

Also, the same with the battery.

And....what have you been able to overclock to?

Trying to get some really accurate feedback here for those who are interested.

I have a quick question, i rooted my phone by downloading the file from suckmydroid.com would this affect the download of the icarus rom or would i be ok?

During the Icarus installation, you will need to format the SD Card anyways. It will not affect the installation, just continue. You will need t0o format the SD Card even before you start as the instructions say. You can copy the files you want to keep from your SD card to the computer , and after you finish with the installation, copy back the files to your SD card. These are part of the instructions.

oh yea i forgot about that i'm on version 3 of clockworkmod too.... i have been reading the forums for days trying to get as much inforrmation on a phone thats not mine. LOL what a hoot this adventure has been , i barely get a chance to see her phone.

The written part of the instructions say how to get the version needed for Icarus. Do not worry, as long as you follow the instructions and do not skip any part.

seeing as i finally have a day off tomorrow i'm going to try to install Icarus. 2 questions before i start:

1. should i get a larger sd card or will the stock 2GB from cricket be sufficient? also, going forward i'm going to want to install whatever the most advanced ROM that comes out is. Will I ever need more space for ROMs or is 2GB enough?

2. installing Icarus will not enable this phone to play streaming video correct? i'll have to wait until someone, cricket or otherwise, releases an android 2.2 or above?

1) If you have enough free space on that SD card, like 1GB left, then go ahead and use the 2GB. But a bigger size is always recommended. If your current 2GB card is almost full, get a bigger one.

2) Correct, you are talking about flash player right? You still can't stream video over the Internet with Icarus, and I don't think we will get that abilty even with the official 2.2 update, kind of like what happened to the mytouch 3g when it received the update, it didn't receive flash player, so it might be the same for us as this phone is not that powerful.

You can use any app you could have previously used. You do not need a launcher as 2 launcher are provided at first launch. It comes with Launcher Pro preinstalled and the original 2.1 launcher. I still prefer Launcher Pro.

Thank you Joser. I have another question though, there's a part in the instructions where i need to remove the battery. The thing is that i can't get my phone out of the case so my question is do i really need to take out the battery I've tried everything to get the phone out of the case but it won't budge

Why are there placeholders after a certain number of characters in long file names??? The same thing happens on the status bar when I receive an e-mail with a long subject line. I am enclosing two screenshots of examples of this. Notice the placeholder characters in the top left corner (250+ Solitaire Collection) in the first image and the place holders instead of characters on My Atlas in the top left hand corner of the second image. Is there a fix for this???

Overall, this is a great mod and I have noticed much better performance from my phone since flashing this mod.

You absolutely need to take out the battery as there is not another way of turning the phone off. I know that pulling out the battery sounds like an informal thing to do in a procedure, but that is really how it is done.

I know, that sucks. But there is no fix for this. Everyone who has Icarus has that problem. I am afraid we might have to wait until the next version is released, and I will be posting it here as soon as it becomes available.

as far as I know there is no way. however there is this great browser
called skyfire. it allows you to watch flash videos online!
plus they load faster. its a good alternative to our problem

performance wise....i'd say with the icarus its about an 8...where as it used to be a 4-5 stock ( metro pcs )

battery life running stock was a nightmare, dead within 3 hours from a full charge...keeping in mind i use my phone often with bluetooth connected....but yeah it was miserable....now with icarus i get a full day of use out of my phone same routine plus with wifi running almost full time also...from 7:30 am until about 8:30-9 pm and then it goes on the charger still with the battery in the dark orange...this was the most drastic improvement for me stock battery was about a 3 for me....now its 10 with icarus, im very pleased with the battery life

i used the set cpu app for "overclocking"....it limits it to 600 mhz on performance mode....not sure about how far of a stretch it was from stock but i keep mine on the "on demand" setting mostly

i dont have too many complaints other than the occasional market place crash it happens very little and its not a big deal for me... havent had any apps crash or lock up the phone.... also a few of the apps i have have character boxes in the app name but again i dont care, im not looking at for long.....

my overall experience with icarus so far has been a 9/10....

I am so into my hobby of 'customization' of my Ascend that I haven't flashed Icarus just yet.

Sice the procedure for changing the boot animations is still not well developed, it is highly not recommended to do that. Why would you do that? The Icarus boot animation is awesome. Many people have bricked their phones trying to change the boot animation, but I am researching more on the subject.

Joser I had to ditch LPP cause it was seriously causing me grief! I hated to do it too cause I really love the layout. I got GO Launcher instead and I really do like it and it gives me no probs. But I'm wondering about LP coming installed with Icarus.

Can you uninstall it if you need to?

I guess I could live with the boot animation. I'm just not an Android icon fan. LOL I love the Android phone but why couldn't they have chosen a flower or something pretty and girly?

Talking about girly, I just noticed you are the only "tech savvy" girl in these forums. Yes, LP can be unintalled with Titanium. I won't cause any problems as it also comes with the stock 2.1 launcher, which I personally do not like. You can install Go Launcher there. What problems were you having with LP?

Go to your computer, and open Huawei Ascend M860. If you get a popup, install the drivers. If you do not get the popup and get a list of files, open USB_Drivers, and find the drivers for your OS there.

there really are no bad things...maybe some minor annoyances like apps that show box placeholders in the name

its far superior to the stock in every way.....but if you use the marketplace for apps then it may or may not work

Ok, so I installed the Icarus MOD onto my Ascend last night. Things went very smoothly and I am very pleased with the way my phone is now running. However, when I try to run the MMS fix and go to http://myascend.org/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&at tach_id=143
on my computer, I get a message saying 404 Not Found, then gives me a screen saying the link appears to be broken. Can someone please post a new link? I did register on myascend.org and searched for the apk but it returned no results. Thanks in advance.
