Pretty much this from me. I want a higher res screen, stereo speakers, more app storage, and better performance. Oh and a battery door that is flush with the device. I can't imagine them not having an EVO 2 this summer. If they don't it's just a monumental mistake by Sprint.

As I said in an earlier post, since wimax works on Clear towers the current 4g phones will not be obsoleted. That is unless Clear completely goes under and takes the towers with them.

I had never seen that, but if it is such an easy conversion then I have to wonder what the real difference is. And depending on how many subscribers there are, the FCC may not allow wimax to be just dropped.

I do hope that what I have been reading about LTE is not true, the fact that it is a system which gives the carriers total control over content, if that is the case then they can count me out. From what I have read it may also be possible for them to lock down on those who are tethering with LTE.

I agree. I hope the Evo 2 has docks like the Atrix.

I think there should be some sort of bluetooth protocol or something so these docks could be wireless and universal.

The Atrix docks are not wireless. The phone actually sits in it.

There have been plenty of phone docks over the years, so I doubt Motorola has a patent on it.

It's just a keyboard/monitor dock. no different than docking stations for laptops that have been around for years except it's now integrated into a laptop format for much smaller computers. That is what these phones are becoming. And honestly, you refine some of the more everyday tasks we do on computers and a more powerful android in a laptop format could satisfy quite a few of the masses to the point we wouldn't need a standard laptop. Heck, if I have Office, web and full media access I could ditch the ultraportable and just have my phone with an 11.6" dummy laptop. Just pull the guts out of my dmz1, slap in a completely flush battery and an inset slot with a microusb jack to dock and charge the phone. I'd be a happy camper.

You could actually put inductive charging to good use to charge the phone while it's in the laptop or just use conductive charging like blackberries had (or do they still have it?).

What reviews are you referring to? Everything I have seen it looks pretty cool.

I forgot about the charging. I guess you'd have to plug it in for that.

What I am thinking though, is the dock would be useless when you buy a new phone. I'd rather have some standard bluetooth protocol so that all future phones could use that same dock.

Maybe it could have some adjustable mount for the phone on the back to connect it so it can charge. But ideally it would work wireless. So you could have the phone in your pocket if you want and use the laptop dock, and use the home theater dock wireless from your couch.

Once that can of worms is open, there are so many possibilities. For example, you could have glasses with a built in monitor and earbuds that connect wirelessly to your phone, and a ring with built in accelerometer that you use for a mouse.

Why buy a full fledged laptop if you don't need it? If I can buy a $150 slave that weighs less than 2lbs I'm all for it. Though I'd pay a little more for a perfect backlit keyboard. Maybe a little more for a nice capacitive rotating screen. Imagine your phone doubling as your tablet. Something like the Dell Duo, but much nicer. And without needing the internals (since they're in the phone, it wouldn't have to be expensive. Could do well with a honeycombed phone with phone & tablet mode. Make it 11.6" since that seems to be a sweetspot for the 768-800 res screens.

+1 on no to bluetooth. Standard microUSB is fine by me. And if that's a bottleneck it will be solved through trickle down of usb 3.0 in time. Can't expect perfection in a generation or two. Anything but proprietary. Of course mfgs will want to tie a slave device into their phone to create brand loyalty. Would hope they'd at least keep it compatible with future generations of their phones. Though a simple android protocol for docking could be universal and docking compartment on a universal slave could easily accommodate multiple phones (within reason..up to a 5" model say).

As far as wireless charging, a simple compartment with a charge pad that can accommodate multiple phones, thicknesses, widths. Could have simple inserts to create the perfect fit for each phone. The keyboard side would just be thick enough to accommodate most phones.

And if you want to take it one step further you could make a phone type android device san the screen and just plug it into the slave to make it a little android computer to use if you need your phone for other things or want a standalone device. Imagine a 4-5" screenless android device you could attach to a monitor and keyboard like a little android desktop, but you can easily upgrade the slave side (be it a laptop type or desktop) as needed.

One of my guys snapped together 4 gumstix for a compact embedded system - another got as high as 5 as memory serves. That was a few years back - but yes, the tech exists to make the entire Evo 2 modular and swap modules in and out for maximum flexibility.

That would include separate radio modules to work on any carrier, anywhere in the world, and to have swappable 4G radios as well.
