How's your battery life after FROYO update?

I updated to Froyo (from stock 2.1) without performing a factory reset, and battery dropped from 100% to less than 15% within 6 hours. Phone also behaved erratically on bootup, buzzing many times and everything seemed very laggy.

Deicded to perform a master factor reset, and now running very smooth, and battery only loses 15-20% during the day (8AM-7PM). Exchange syncs every hour, about 15 mins of voice calls, and about 1 hour of mild browsing acitivity and calendar checks. Very happy now with the Froyo update.

I suspect my initial problem was with applications I installed not running well on the updated OS. If you guys haven't done a factor reset, give it a try.

I had similar experience. I still think that WiFi uses more power on 2.2 than it did before.

Mine is horrible!!!! I have multiple apps (fox news, the hockey news, yellow pages....etc) that open and run by themselves even though I haven't opened them in days. I use atk to kill them, but the pop back up within 1-2 minutes.

What is with so many people using ATK on 2.2? That's proably 90% of the problem

Because I have 7-10 apps that I almost never use running for no reason at all. I can kill these apps, but they open themselves back up for some reason and I can sit on 3g watchdog and watch my data usage slowly being used by the minute without me doing anything.

I did a factory reset yesterday since my battery life sucked after Froyo, now it's even worse. No GPS usage, maybe 20 minutes of phone calls, 40 texts, 15 second backlight, lowest brightness, about 8 hours today on stock battery. If I didn't have 2 extra batteries I'd throw this phone at the wall.

I stopped using ATK and started using Juice Defender. It seems to have helped some but only when the WIFI is turned off. Battery is still dead by the end of the day so I havent gained much other then realizing ATK wasnt doing much either

Last night I charged up past 100% so I would be sure that when I unplugged it didn't immediately jump down to 96%. I unplugged before going to sleep and when I woke up it had remained at 100% on standby for 6 hours. I did one thing different last night and that was turning off the wifi. That really made a big difference in battery saving. Usually when I would leave wifi on I would wake up with around 88% from 100%.

The battery life on mine has been worse since the update to 2.2. Tonight I left my home around 5pm with a 95% or so charge. I got home at 11pm and the battery was at about 50%. In the 6 hours I was gone I got 2 phone calls and 1 voicemail, all lasting less than 2 minutes. I also got 2 text messages, sent 1 text and posted my location using foursquare. That's it. I do not have a live wallpaper running either.

I noticed that after the 2.2 update, my battery was draining like crazy (even using juice defender). I looked in Spare Parts and the phone was almost never going to sleep. It looked like Email was creating a partial wake lock. I used the application manager to Force Stop the program and it seems like it might have helped but the jury is still out.

My battery has also become substantially worse than before. Within an hour or so my battery goes down 4-8% with extremely light to no usage. I took off haptic feedback in order to save some battery, since I've read that it would help. However I have not seen any difference.

I also noticed that charging my phone overnight does not fully charge the battery anymore. I regularly charge my battery overnight, and when I was on 2.1 it would charge a 100% no problem. However now it will state my battery is a 100%, but as soon as I unplug it, the battery life drops to 98-95% in a few seconds. The only way to get a full charge now is by constantly "recalibrating" the battery. Therefore, once I get a full charge, I'd have to turn off my phone, get it to 100%, turn it back on, and wait until that charge is complete to 100%. Only then would my phone stay at 100% battery life for longer than a few seconds.

so I did the factory reset, and the battery life doesn't seem to have improved at all. just last night, I have both the captivate and HTC inspire charged to 100%, unpluged, laid them side by side. This morning (about 7hours later), the inspire with wifi on the whole time, had only lost 8% battery. The captivate, with wifi off, had lost 25%! so I looked in "battery use", and I was without signal 50% of the time! . I guess I shouldn't have laid the phones at that spot because that's where I usually have no bars (but the Inspire had no problems with reception at the exact location). But has anyone noticed that even though the phone has no bars, the minute I called it with another phone, it would get at least 1 bar and start ringing.

My battery life was good before the update, but I noticed a big drop afterwards. I also noticed that certain programs were loading in the background that hadn't done so with eclair. Also, the sync symbol would show on the taskbar for long periods of time, I checked my settings and found that the sync settings were all turned active. I turned off auto-sync and even turned it off for gmail. Now my battery life is very good and those programs that were loading in the background (which I did not need to sync any data updates) are not automatically loading . After an overnight charge, at the gym this morning I used internet radio for about 1.5 hours via 3G, plus for about 40 minutes I simultaneously read an ebook while listening. It did use about 30%, but for the rest of the day, it will maybe use an additional 25 -30% - unless I do some heavy media viewing. Obviously the update set everything to sync and run in the background, and you may not need or want them to.

well, I just got done talking to ATT device support people about my battery not performing like it should, and they INSIST that I have to install advanced task killer.........

So that you'll buy another battery from them.

Besides, since when did AT&T actually design and build an Android device?

When I stopped using ATK- my battery life went up, and I got another 14 hours out of it!!!

What all data do you lose with a facory reset? What about all your contacts and application data? I'm assuming that gets wiped?

I'm somewhat glad to see I'm not the only one with this issue. I switched back to the captivate after I saw the froyo update was out but I don't know if I can handle this battery drain thing. I don't remember it beings anywhere near this bad with 2.1. I knew I shouldnt have updated. Any way to roll it back? Thanks.

So I got my Captivate back in December. Did the Froyo update yesterday. And my battery is completely shot. I've noticed using ATK (i know everyone says it sucks) that i have at least 10 apps running even after i kill those apps. Before the update, when i ran task killer, for the most part those apps would stay closed and my battery would last for a good amoutn of time. I just lost 2% of battery in 5 minutes. At that rate, i have 2.5 hours and my phone will completely die.

I also shut off my phone, removed the battery, and plugged it back in, and my power went from 98% to 90%. I've Force Stop many apps yet they are still popping up. My work email (outlook), prior to update, was set to not be used unless i physically opened it, now its turns on whenever the hell it wants to. As of now, the only thing i have syncing up is my gmail and my outlook email. I have auto-sync checked, if i uncheck this, will this save on some battery? and if so, will this cause my phone not to update properly?

Does anyone have a suggestion to save my battery useage. All i want is for the damn phone to act like it did prior to the update. What apps should i get that will keep apps i don't want running closed and help manage my power?

You all need to do a factory-reset.

Power off phone and remove SIM and microSD (if applicable). Power phone back on. Tap Phone. Dial *2767*3855#

What helped me was rooting and freezing bloatware apps. I've also frozen some processes for things I never plan to use. Also, switching to a black background as AMOLED uses power otherwise. Active wallpapers are nifty (yeah, I said nifty), but not worth the battery life.

I've gone from 20 to 24 hours up to 36 to 40 hours doing that alone (your results may vary depending on usage).

I wish I could find the snippet i wrote about battery usage. Most people don't know how to maintain their battery life. Many things use battery power. You just have to be smart enough to know what's using power and how to tweak your settings where you get the best life from your battery. I can use mine regularly and still have 40-50% left when I get ready to sleep. I'd venture to suggest that many people are either using their phones more than they think or they have things running and turned on that they aren't considering.

BTW, some apps HAVE to run in order for others to do what they need to do. Look in your About section of setting and see what's using your battery power and go from there.

seems like if i'm using something, the battery is consumed faster but if i leave it alone, the same...

what's more, it seems that the battery gauge no longer accurately reflects the actual value... the icon up in the status bar would show 80% full but if i go to settings - phone - status, it tells me 65% huh!

anyone else have this kind of discrepancy too?
