Give VirusROM Infection RC1 a try then. It's senseless and has everything working. Very smooth and stable. If you haven't checked out the thread Mr. Ed started, check it out here:

I believe the XDA link is in the thread as well, if not a link to the Dev's website is for sure. It's worth a test for sure.

Just posted this in the intro to rooting thread but I think this is the right place.

Do you have to flash rooms and kernels together, or can you flash one without running the other. I want to flash mikfroyo and am wondering if rooms and kernels work in tandem with one another. Am I missing out on something if I flash rom only. I have read that kernels deal with performance, but I've also read that rooms increase performance as well. TIA

I assume you mean ROMs? You can flash the kernel whenever you want, just be sure to wipe cache and dalvik cache prior to flashing kernel. What I do is wipe everything except SD card stuff, and I usually wipe cache's 2-3 times. Then I flash the ROM and kernel in same recovery session, in that order then reboot. First reboot will take a little bit, so be patient.

Here's link to mikfroyo thread if you don't have it, it's a great ROM and is my daily. Mik community is great source of knowledge so feel free to ask just about any question in there you want. Be sure to read the first 4 posts thoroughly in that thread before asking/flashing.

Every ROM (with the exception of one, which I can't remember which atm :p) comes w/ a kernel, a sense based ROM usually comes with a HTC kernel. A lot of people have great success as far as battery and performance are concerned w/o having to flash a custom kernel. So to answer your questions, yes, you can flash one w/o the other. You can have a stock rooted ROM w/ a custom kernel or have a custom ROM w/ a stock kernel. Yes, some ROM's increase performance by optimizing files w/in the ROM for speed. You would only be missing out on something by not flashing a custom kernel, if you're looking to overclock your phones CPU to increase performance.

My question is in regard to restoring using TB. there's a note on the instruction page about possible issues due to tb backing up on a different rom than the new one being flashed. does this mean i shouldn't use tb to restore my stuff onto mikfroyo. i had stock rom initially. TIA
 
it is refering to restoring data with tb. some say (including me) that to only restore apps but not app+data. others restore app and data with no issues. i use tb everytime i flash a new rom. i just restore apps only.

so I'm trying to get all my apps back and i thought it would be easier than what it's shaping up to be. 1. most of my apps seem to be having problems installing, and 2. it appears to be taking alot longer than normal for them to download (even 1 at a time, and I'm on wifi).

don't know if it's related or not, but after installing custom rom (mikfroyo) am i supposed to flash all the radios or something? would not doing that affect the above issue?
 
from tb when i go to restore apps only most of the apps go thru the process of installing only to fail at the end and say app not installed.

not sure where to find the hboot and radio info. should all the updated radios have come with the custom rom?

power off your phone and press and hold power+vol down. at the top of the screen in green it should look like this:

ok so you are current with radios no need to touch it. have you tried and wipe cache and dalvik cache? anytime i get weird stuff happening that is usually the first thing i try.

I wiped those prior to flashing the rom as instructed, but i'll do it again. that's done thru the bootloader screen as well correct?
 
ok gonna try that now. could the app issue be that too many are downloading and installing at the same time? overload perhaps?
 
wifi is great. never had a problem with it. it's all i use. i'll try going one by one again after the wipe. strange though. darn near everything is coming back unsuccessfully installed
 
are you doing it through titanium backup? it should not install any apps. it just needs to restore apps. it should take a few seconds for each app.
 
yeah that's what i mean, restore. is there a way to do multiple app restores on tb. i've been doing one by one. and i'm searching for the apps. i see a ton of stuff in red, but i don't know what that is so i haven't touched those. look more like system things, and things that came pre installed with the phone for the most part. and i'm not hitting apps plus data, just restore apps
 
ok thanks....looks like a couple more are installing now that i'm cancelling some of the others....i'll keep at this method and see if my luck changes in addition to the wipe
