I had similar problems what worked for me was I opened my wireless tether app (the green colored one because I had the yellow colored wifi tether app and it wouldn't work at all for me) hit the menu key hit Access Control then in the right hand corner i enabled the bar till it turned green then I tried to reconnect my ipad then under the green bar I just enabled my mac address, name, ip address came up and a lil white box next to it I checked that box tried my ipad and it was running smooth off my evo tether...hope this helped good luck im new to this also.

The OP has that exact thing for you. It's called "After Rooting (optional)", step 3 of that is flashing ROMs.
My suggestion for a ROM and community is Mikfroyo found here and here. A lot of help in that community and IMO the best/quickest ROM out there. Not that the others are bad at all, I just like his the best.

i installed the drivers but when i run unrevoked3 and set usb debugging on it never finds my device?
hsve tried to install and then uninstall htc sync?

I am tempted to not even Root it. I got my Rooted EVO and I doubt updates for it will stop any time soon. the G1 just recently was no longer kept up by CyanogenMod. EVO is many times better than the G1, so hopefully it'll take just as much more time before it fades away.

Yeah..I hope, but doubtful, we will see. However like you said the updates for the evo aren't ever going to stop.

I'm sorry if this causes repetition but I've been reading a LOT and I think I'm ready to UNROOT my EVO to take it to the Sprint store but I'm not totally clear. Do I need to uninstall HTC Sync and/or disable antivirus software? I'm using the instructions I found in this thread from Matlock on 10/7.
The reason I'm unrooting is I installed an "Apps2sd Patch" from this link...
App2SD patch: muovere tutte le app sulla SD senza permessi di root News Android, - AndroidWorld.it
...and now pics & music run from the card but my phone won't show up as a Hard Drive and the Apps that are on the card don't show up, and USB Debugging doesn't work. I figure unrooting and starting over without using that patch should do the trick. I put a new card in & got the same problem so I'm sure it's the phone and not the card.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm a quick learner but an admitted n00b at the moment!!!

Unrooting is done in two steps. There are links and instructions in the Rooting Guide under After Rooting. Basically, you need to flash the s-on tool first from recovery, then flash the ruu file for your hboot from hboot. If you can not get access to your sdcard through your phone, you might have to put it in a cardreader and drop the files on there that way.

Also, do I need to uninstall or disable anything besides HTC Sync? I remember I had to disable Norton to root. Does the same thing apply when unrooting?

I am not sure of the exact definition of "flashing" but basically it installs or overwrites information and programming on your phone. In this case it turns on the security on your phone. If you have s-off, then yes you need to use this to turn it back up before flashing the ruu from hboot.
If your pc recognizes your phone then you do not have to do anything with HTC Sync. You need to flash the s-on tool first from recovery, reboot the phone, connect the phone to your pc, rename the PC36IMG file to exactly PC36IMG and drop it on the root of your sdcard. Reboot your phone to hboot and it should scan for the file. When it finds it, select yes to flash it and let if finish. Reboot your phone when done and you should be back to a stock phone

That explains what flashing does & I appreciate that. Now, I'm trying to understand exactly HOW to do it.
How do I find out if I have s-off or s-on? My understanding is I don't need to flash the s-on tool if I only used Unrevoked to root but didn't use Unrevoked Forever. I didn't use Unrevoked Forever so do I still need to flash the s-on tool?
Reboot into bootloader by turning the phone on while holding down the volume down button. On the top of the screen you should see s-on or s-off. If you rooted with the latest unrevoked, unrevoked forever is included, so yes you would need to flash that s-on tool.
EDIT: Were you on a custom ROM? I had this happen to me the other day, as far as my phone not recognizing it, and I booted into recovery and wiped cache and dalvik cache and it fixed it. You could also just try to restore back a nand backup if you have any, or just flash a custom ROM if you haven't. Before you go through the process of unrooting. Maybe even just try to format your sdcard, however you said you tried a different card so I assume you did that already.

Reboot to the bootloader(hboot) by powering off then hold volume down and power at the same time til it loads to a white screen. It will give you your hboot version which you will need to download the correct ruu file and tell you s-on or s-off. How recently did you use unrevoked? What version did you use to root? I believe regardless of the version, if you have s-off you have to run the s-on tool

No, wasn't on a custom ROM.
I just booted into recovery and wiped cache but didn't see where to wipe dalvik cache. It didn't solve the problem.
I might try flashing a cusom ROM. Which do you recommend? It seems like CyanogenMod is the most popular. What say you?

Have you ever heard of that patch? I have never seen anybody speak of it. Bad idea...smdh

Ok first thing you need to do is flash the alternative recovery option within ROM manager so that you are using Amon Ra and not Clockwork, BTW dalvik cache in clockwork is in the advanced menu. I highly suggest you use Amon Ra though, much better recovery options.
CM is good but not if you like sense, ie all the widgets, etc. Mikfroyo, IMO, is the best ROM out there and you can get it here. A lot of people also recommend Myn RLS. I've tried them all and again IMO Mikfroyo is hands down the best, fastest, and smoothest out there. The community there is a lot of help as well. My id is the same in there. Feel free to log in there and ask some questions.
I would seriously try to flash a custom ROM before you unroot and see if that fixes your issue. Let me know if you have any other questions. Again the mik community is great and will answer your questions as well.
