Root Velocity 1.1 Upgrade Procedure

Ok, Trident's edit to the OP has me a bit confused ... is the MMS bug in the script procedure only, or is it for the flash procedure as well. I don't have a problem wiping all data if I need to ... but I'm lazy and don't wanna hafta reload/reset everything if I don't need to.

EDIT: nevermind, did some more research, and it looks like I'm totally wiping.

You need to wipe data and the dalvik cache for both but I think doing it via the scripts automatically wipes the dalvik cache for you.

Click install, it will fail. Notification goes away

I got the notification today. What I had to do was, after it downloaded and claimed to have installed it went into the reboot phase at the end, but got hung on that screen. So after a few minutes I manually rebooted. Seems fine now and no more notification. Note that I did not install the utility it says we need if we wanted this update.

Probably never gonna have gingerbread, and yes you need a pay pal account to donate.

The OG script doesnt have this fuctionality, you should upgrade with the flashable zip in the scripts thread to v29, then 32 ota. OR just flash the rom the oldschool way

OK it's post 3, smartypants. Clearly you got it working, your signature says Velocity 1.1.

First of all, I was not the one with the problem. I have been using 1.1 since its inception. But, no need to call names.

Post # 3 in this thread also doesn't have a FAQ in it?? Where exactly are you seeing the FAQ? Is it in a different thread? I'd like to know for future reference. I don't see a FAQ anywhere in the posts of this thread.

Sorry, I thought you were being obtuse on purpose.

Click on the link that says 'Velocity Script' and the FAQ is in post #3. It's not in this thread, it's in the linked thread. (the URL is not shown)

Being obtuse wasn't my intent at all. I like to leave 'bread crumbs' on forum threads so those coming along much later have an easier time researching a problem (been there myself too many times!). So I just wanted to try and clarify the location of the discussed information. Thanks for doing that. :)

Does this method work if coming from velocity v.4?

My wife had to get a replacement phone, it came with 2.1update1 so I used z4root to root the replacement but it wouldn't load her backup of velocity 1.1 from the old phone. I saw the update thread linked from the 1.1 thread, my laptop is vista and I am unable to get that procedure to work correctly so that doesn't appear to be an option for me, so I'm hoping this method will work to get her back to 1.1.

Thanks for the help,

Brent.

I would check out the 2.2 root guide but not if your only option is a vista pc. Before updating velocity, you will have to update to froyo.

That's what I was afraid of.

I'll have to see if I can get help from the guy who rooted her old phone for me in the first place I guess. I was just hoping there would be a way I could do it on my own. Oh well.

All you need is a pc with xp or windows 7. Then you can follow the 2.2 root guide. The advantages of the root guide is that it will downgrade to zv6 and give you fastboot access. If you cant get to a pc with 7 or vista you can download gingerbreak and root it. Use ROM manager to flash clockworkmod recovery THEN FLASH ALTERNATE RECOVERY, the recovery may not stick after a reboot. You need to remove /system/ect/install-recovery.sh then you can flash velocity 1.1, if you do it like this you wont have fastboot (which i think everyone should) but it will allow you to do it without a pc.

When the instruction says

Copy the file to your phones sdcard

is this indicating that the velocity_1.1_release.zip file be copied in, or do I need to extract and locate something specific? Also, where on the SD card does it need to go? Root or in a specific folder/location?

It depends on how many folders you have in the root of your SD card. You'll want to copy the zip file to a folder that will get displayed from recovery when you go to flash the zip file to install Velocity. If you have lots of folders recovery won't see all of them. I created a folder name beginning with an underscore character to keep it close to the top of the list. By this same token, if copied to the root of the SD, and not all folders get displayed, you won't see the individual files that list at the bottom.

Yup, I just decided to drop the zip in root & see what happened. Lo & behold, it all worked just like it was supposed to and I've got Velocity installed. Haven't really done anything with it yet but I've now got a new thing to play with over the weekend.

You will want to make sure and update the Scripts to version 38 (or later as they release) so you don't start getting the notification for an OTA from Verizon. It has been well discussed in a few threads.

Enjoy!

I know I probably sound like an idiot but I'm a little new to this. I downloaded velocity 1.1 and flashed it. I didn't wipe anything. Now when I turn it on I keep boot looping. Am I stuck or is there still hope?
