Samsung Galaxy Prevail update?

Ok I hate to be such a noob but, I am rooted. I didnt put your rom on the phone yet shabby. I wanted to wait unit you found away of doing the sd card to ext. mod and clocking up the speed of the phone. Now I am getting the update message. If I put your current mod on the phone will the message go away ? I'm afraid of hitting it by mistake and loosing my root.

on this fone so far has anyone put a list of wat is safe to remove the would be kool specifically having root uninstaller i know the whole dont start ripping stuff out and all but trigger happy am i so old wiseones any list or clues ??

Hey Shabby, I think I may have figured out how to get rid of the constant ota update alert, but need confirmation. Did you delete the systemupdater.apk in your mod?

Shabby,

Would it be too much trouble to paste what lines you changed in the build.prop? I would appreciate it, that alert pops up every few minutes or so, and I kind of just wanted to leave it as close to stock as I can.:)

easiest way since your going to edit build.prop anyways is to download shabbymod 0.6 pull the build.prop out of it and just push that. it not only includes that "fix" but a few other changes that i think are worthwhile.. sure its "less stock" but your gunna have to swap out build.prop for a stock one if you return it to boost anyways:cool:

:P

deny the update.. unless its installed for you...

I went ahead and bought a new Prevail yesterday. The update will automatically take place upon activation. Before activation my new phone showed EE13, after activation it shows ED14.

I kept my rooted Prevail activated, and am damn glad I did because since 6:30am this morning I've been getting the update notice. I'll install the Shabbymod after work tonight. Hopefully, it'll go as smoothly as the root did for me.

I also got it today. I deleted the update file from the /cache directory, then I clicked reboot and update, update didn't happen because the file was missing, all is good for now (no update notification). The update specifically stated that its purpose was to address a root exploit.

Can you share the path to the /cache folder and what the name of the update file was? I've tried but not sure what to look for.

Thanks!

so hypothetically speaking, if I were to restore my phone to stock, should I then be able to root it, do the things I need elevated privs for, unroot, then install samsungs update? or is this update going to stay effective even if I revert to stock?

the only real problem I have with losing root is that superuser is now orphaned on my phone.

OK so if I Install Shabbymod .6 will the message for the update go away ? I know that you have removed some bloatware. is there a list somewhere of what you removed ?

You need to use a root/su file manager. Some start at the sdcard, make sure you go all the way back, and the /cache folder should be listed. The filename will look similar to this: cf7ef825e071.update_SPH-M820_ED13ToEE14.zip (I copied this from above)

The full path is /cache/cf7ef825e071.update_SPH-m820_ED13ToEE14.zip

The Problem with your suggestion is that the unroot procedure requires root access, and after the update there is no root access.
That is why a custom recovery is what is needed you can flash a rom regardless of rooted state.

This is it I just copied it into one line.

Thanks Shabby, I'm going to try it out later. What other kind of changes are there? Did you by any chance put the netflix fix in there?
