I'm pretty sure GPS was fixed back in nightly #7 and mms was fixed (I think) in nightly #14. Camcorder is still not working though.

If you keep flashing nightly's as soon as they come out, you won't get good (at least decent) battery life. You have to go through a few phone charge cycles, much like it was when first installing GB.

Battery life has been great for me (24 hours 20 minutes off the charger and I had 32% battery left, slightly less than averge use for me). GPS is fixed, MMS/SMS is now working. The camera zip is the only thing that needs a .zip but the video recorder still doesn't work.

I just meant that it isn't fixed as in a .zip file is still needed to get it running. ;)

Battery life for me was good after I wiped stats, GPS has been fixed as well as the stock MMS not sending, SMS always worked fine for me.
 
Went from #10 to #15. Seems to be more fluid now and battery life seems to have improved. No 1% yet. Finally feels like CM7 should.

getting closer to where i might install it...not quite there yet...

its also too bad that things like the AOSP camera and dialer suck...

The dialer can be fixed easily with some of the themes out there, there are some really nice dialers one you apply a theme.

Some people are close to having the blur camera working, they actually have pictures taken, but it just forcecloses after the picture is taken and saved. I just have issue putting blur back on something AOSP. I am looking at getting one of the nicer cameras for a few bucks.

im not really talking about how the dialer LOOKS....but how it functions...the AOSP dialer is missing some of the coolest features that the StarTac dialer has now....like speed dial :p

unfortunately i think a lot of people are so caught up in the idea of having something "AOSP" that they are willing to sacrifice functionality and features just to say "its AOSP"

I think it's more a matter of preference/need. I have no need or use for the speed dial feature since I have a bunch of lock screen swipe gestures set up to call or text certain people. You on the other hand need/prefer to use a dialer with a speed dial. :D

That dialer does stink. No speed dial? C'mon. I thought that's been a standard for years. Maybe there's a theme that'd make it look better but I haven't found it yet. All the themes I've seen (and I've been through a lot of the 170 of em on the xda site) look plain and simple.

thats not really my point...

- my point was simply that we make such a big deal about not having "bloat" on our phones yet its ok to install an app and use resources to do things that the stock dialer should do on its own...

as for the features..

- i rarely use speed dial...if ever...its just the simple fact that its not there is quite pathetic...the original StarTac had speed dial...i don't think you can even buy a dumb phone that doesn't include the feature...

- its also missing the predictive dialing which is slick...

- it just comes back to this whole obsession with AOSP...being completely honest...the Blur dialer and Blur camera particularly beat the pants off the AOSP versions...

Couldn't have said it any better. I agree. I love predictive dialing but wish I didn't have to install something else just to get that.

What's your point?

Use the Blur dialer, then. The AOSP dialer is simple and not full of features. Some of us don't care. Others of us care but are willing to tolerate a lesser dialer for the sum of the parts. You don't get the Blur dialer, without Blur.

Frankly, my phone spends 5% of its time being a phone. I couldn't possibly care less that there aren't any fancy parts to the dialer. I'd far rather see Google pour efforts into significant parts of the system rather than tweaking something where there are about a hundred options to fix if you don't like it. Same with the camera. Would it be nice to have a better camera? Sure. Are there a thousand camera apps out there that give me plenty of options without having to tolerate the Blur framework, apps, widgets, etc? You bet.

I understand your complaint, believe me. But you're harping an awful lot with an awful lot of venom over something that is both fairly minor and has LOTS of options to fix.

Incidentally, I don't know if you are aware of this, but the dialer is an app. Even the stock dialer is an app. So you've got an app using resources, it doesn't matter if it's stock or third party. It's not like the stock dialer magically doesn't use any resources, thus installing another dialer is not somehow invalidating the concept of low resource consumption by the system.

yet you're still not looking at the big picture...

Android (in its AOSP form at least) will be a disappointment to users if it is missing such basic of features...sure it may not be a big deal to you...but to the basic user? they find out that there $200+ (w/contract) "smart phone" cant use speed dial? blah!....OEM's like Moto obviously realize these things by adding the functionality to their phones...

my point is simply that these shouldn't need fixing...i mean...speed dial? come on!...crap camera software?...these are things that should not happen on a smart phone OS made by a company with the resources of Google...

if these features were better from the get go...there may be less motivation for the OEM's to do as much tinkering as they do...

did i ever say it was not an app?....which uses more resources? does the average user know they can remove the old app leaving both running in the background...

whether the AOSP dialer is "good enough" for you or anyone else is irrelevant....its a pathetically barebones excuse for a "smartphone" component...

I really don't care too much about the dialer, it's actually the one thing I use the least. But I will agree that the Blur Camera is much better than the AOSP camera.

Sounds like you got it. Don't forget to ditch bootstrapper once your up and running in CM7.
