Step 3 is invalid if using a card reader.
In regards to your last question. Yes and no.
a 16GB card is not actually 16GB. Its 14.9GB there abouts.
This is because a GB in software terms is a multiple of 1024 (1073741824 Bytes). However, in Hardware terms (HDD,s SD's etc) its 1000(1000000000 Bytes).
So to make a TRUE 1GB ext partition (1024MB) , you will have less than 15GB free left over.
You need to move also Dalvik cache to SD card. This is done by flashing apps_dalvik2ext.zip (get it from Redux ROM page).2. Apps2sd definitely got a lot more space now than i had before, but I put a 1gb ext3 partition but my storage space is saying 67mb free (prior to rom install that was about 20mb), I would have thought I would have more space than that ?
(Titanium backup info is saying sdcard a2sd - 1.03gb (994mb free), is the stuff installing on there or just in the normal partition ?
Quick system info app is saying - a2sd total 0.96gb, free 899mb
what one is right and i should be reviewing ?

need help, something really weird going on with my phone
everything was running fun since i installed Redux 1.2, then I put the Miui camera apk on there and again everything fine.
Today installed the ManU kernal (eviollets kernel) from shauny's post here http://androidforums.com/desire-all-things-root/331081-redux-battery-life-amazing-2.html and then setcpu app and since then a couple of weird things have happened.
1. photos & video's have disappeared
2. when phone was switched off and battery removed (to make sure sd card was seated although I didnt remove it), time went back to 00:00 on 6th Jan 1980 until I hit the accpet network time date bit.
Number 1 is the bit thats a nightmare, I know for a fact 24 photo's & vids were in the folder at 4.30, when I checked at 5.50 only 3 files were there.
earlier this afternoon, after taking some photo's at work, I hooked phone up to laptop and when I went to copy them over (i could see them in my pc's file manager), it then said the files were not present when I went to paste.
then when I unplugged phone, went to check in phone gallery, they were not showing up. Plugged my phone back in to pc and the windows check-disk utility came up automatically to repair the sd card, so I ran this but photo's still not there.
Took some photo's and it was hit and miss whether they would stay on the card or not.
Anyone got any ideas, its not so much the files being lost, its going forward, dont want even more going missing or as im going on holiday next thursday my holiday photos not happening.
could be a faulty sdcard or the mbr is knackered.
i remember someone fixed it if it was the latter, InfernalByte i think it was
but yeah sounds like one of two
would that explain why these files have disappeared and only after the kernal change today ?
copy my files over from my card to my pc incase i need to format and getting error messages

The nandroid backups don't back up media files from the SD card, so a restore won't bring them back.
Remember that your backup is on the card itself, so don't format the card without copying that onto a computer. In fact right now I'd copy whatever you can onto a computer, because I don't trust your card. Do you know that it's only media files that are being corrupted, or is it just that those are the things that are being written to card at the moment?
I'd be tempted to try SUroot's goldcard suggestion in post 42, simply because if that does work it might fix the card non-destructively (whereas a format, by definition, will wipe it). But I don't know if there's any way that could make things worse, so I'd copy off everything you can before doing anything else.
Use handyrecover from the toolbox thread to try and recover any corrupt.or lost files
