Root Whats Your Favorite ROM?

Breakfast is served!!!!! The NEW CM7 port: Backside ROM. YAAHOO! I'm going to install it and give a progress report on what this "Nuub" see's. What doesn't work(that should be a very short list). App space. Performance(the standard Angry Birds Test). Bluetooth performance. Headset performance. etc.,etc. I'll even do a bench mark test at different CPU speeds and post that. Gotta go,my "V" so hungry,it thinks it's throats been cut.

O.K. I installed the ROM.The Gapps. The Ath3nos bloatware remover:(it removed more than the bloatware on this Port,it removed the market app, browser not responding,go back to recovery and start again). The theme. The boot animation install got an Error:No signature(86 files)Error: signature verification failed, installation aborted. Rebooted. Touch screen was a little laggy right at first, but came around after init. setup. Standard launcher look and feel. Cool theme, Green text over black background. Pulldown is clear with android figure near footer.Footer has green machine text(green) on black background. Headset works great, volume controls a little laggy, but sound quality is good(no more spikes).Music player works good, shuffle works, repeat works both for single song and album contents. Bluetooth still a no go.It will pair and connect but no audio.Moved google maps to sd card with App Swap, didn't hang or reboot. Installed No-frills cpu controls, set to 768Hz-480Hz interactive, installed Angry Birds. Fast and smooth, with just a slight (almost not even noticeable) laggy aftertaste. Galllery:only had one hole(missing image) out of largest compilation of pictures(41). The image is there, and will show when selected. Now for the Launcher Pro(7 screens) and multipicture live wall paper test. Didn't crash ROM on reboot, everything looking good,Wow! boot up was fast with no lag. I'll see how it is with 80+apps installed. This might take some time EDIT: Laggy volume control fixed with the reboot.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

The bootanimation zip file is not flashable, bootanimations are always zip files. Just put it in syste/media, and your next reboot you will see it.

Downloaded apps and preinstalled apps total:101; 12 must have on phone, 64 on SD card. Total useable MB's left from 178.88 to start:162.35MB. I like it!! Boot up time(complete useable phone and apps time): 2min 28sec from push of reboot to total reboot with 64 apps on SD card, 7 screens, a picture in every screen, and all the apps in the right place and useable. Wow! Camera: works greaat! USB mass storage control not supported.EDIT: The MMS worked flawlessly. So the only things not working are USB mass storage control(I can pull the SD card and insert into PC) and the Bluetooth. WOW, WOW, WOW ! Great work. My hats off to all the people involved in making of this ROM(and they don't even get paid),especially to JerryScript and Blarfie without whom this would not have been possible. Now I'm going to check out and see how well the flash player download works.

Thanks(I hate being a "Nuub" sometimes), sorry for the missunderstanding on my part. Will see how it looks.EDIT: put the boot animation in /system/media,deleted the stock animation(I'm thinking I would have been better off backing it up first, too late for that). On boot up got a cool, large green android image with a green circular flame kinda thing going around the image. Thanks again to JerryScript for saving me from my own stupidity.

im new to the android modding, but i would say slighlty above average in modifying my electronics. i have only tried one rom so far, i suppose the point or this thread is for people to discover new roms based on educated decesions. currently runnibg BumbleBee kernal 2.6.32.9 This rom has been very stable ths far. its interactivly clockable and i switch between 729 and 768Mhz. so far no force closes or reboots. i only use 768 while playing games, but havent run anything much more complex than angry birds, and its all real smooth. i would say i have average use of phone. daily phone uses: lots of media playing time mostly music, fair amount of texting, about the same on facebook and gmail and prob about 30 to 40 mins talk time on average day. battery seems to last better than stock rom, esp when its low on power, it feels like it lasts forever(last 20% or so). i still have to charge once a day, unless i am in stand by time alot. which seems not to drain anything at all. i use wifi most the whole time the phone is on as well. stock rom the phone would be done in like 5-8 hours full charge for my normal use now last all day. i like this rom a lot, and def will be one of my "keepers". i havent run in to any problems yet. camera works fine for me, wifi also, and i havent used a mms since using this rom, so i dont know if theywork, but i have read they do. i only mentioned them because i have seen they are some problems a few different roms have. also i dont have headphones with mic or use bluetooth, so i cant comment on those eihter. all in all i love this rom and will not be deleting it from my quiver of roms

What device do you have(We all hate to assume),I couldn't help but notice because the latest Bumblebee ROM for the Optimus "V" is 2.4 ,You might not be in the right Forum for your phone.

i have an optimus v and my rom is 2.4, but the kernel must be 2.6....., at least thats what it says when viewing the phone info. my rom dl came from link on bubmblebee 2.4 thread on android central. also i should prob add my recovery. i used thunderc for my recovery. which im currently having problems with, but they are completely due to user error. long story short rom manager is installed clockworkmod on my phone, and screwed up my recovery, i now have an unresponsive recovery (it boots, but wont function and i have to battery pull to reboot phone)and am currently searching a way to fix...?.... if you have anywhere you can point me that may help thatd be awesome

Rom Manager is good for other phones... not the 'V'. If you can boot into the phone, reflash the recovery with Xionia's recovery. You can get it here among other roms. Xionia's is the recomended recovery for the 'V'. I used rom manager for my first flash... I ran into the very same problem. Hope this helps.

Edit: Here for specific recoveries. Again the Xionia vm recovery is recomended for our phone. Good luck!!

thank you yogi, but the one link u sent is actually where i got my original stuff from, i just sent the very link in a pm to someone. i would love if i could do that and be done with it, but my recovery doest function, it just boots, then i cant do anything except pull the battery out to restart it. none of the headings that show up in recovery will allow me to perform any actions :( i tried re'flashing using original method (typing in commands in adb also tried terminal emulator) with no luck as well. so i cant use my system recovery to flash nor will flashing new recoveries the same way i flashed the first recovery work and flashing a new recovery in terminal emulator is a fail too. original recovery i had was recovery-RA-optV-2.2.1-GNM (thunderc). do you know of any other way for me to flash other than above mentioned methods? or any thing i should try different? i am following the same steps as fresh install when doing the other attempted recoveries EDIT: i am gonna try to flash the xonia recovery term emulator first then adb if no work EDIT: i actually do do one thing different from fresh install when installing through cmd prompt using adb, i do go into reovery mode, then i do the routine flashing commands for my phone

I was just reading last nite about flashing a recovery in recovery... but can't find the post. Basically, you remove the sd card, put it in your computer, move the new recovery onto the sd card, (don't put it in any folders), put card back into phone, boot into recovery and flash new recovery. But your recovery won't let you do anything. So what I just typed is mute. :( Did you try pressing all the buttons on front of the phone?? One poster yesterday tried them all... except for the right one. lol.

PS: You might want to start a new thread to gain the attention of others. They might not see you dilema in here.

starting a new thread will get the attention of all the members that like to root and ROM. Not as many members will look at this thread as opposed to a new thread with your problem spelled out from the start of the problem and what you have done since to try to correct it. Remember....I'm a "Nuub" too,and if your going to find an asnwer to your problem your better off getting the help of a much more experienced member. I will throw Ideas out based on my limited knowledge(Got my first "V" in April, and promptly messed it up,leaned from my mistakes),and what I have seen in the threads. I'll keep an eye on the thread you start to see if I can contribute anything useful, someone in this forum has a answer,

Not such a crazy Idea. Can you access you SD card from a PC without taking it out of the phone(adb mass storage in the settings options?what all can you do with your phone?Answer these Questions in the thread you start

yes i did try all the buttons on the phone with no luck. i can scroll in the menu and select the optins, but when i do it it just takes the menu away and shows the wallpaper for the recovery and does nothing. then i hit the button again after a 30 seconds or so of nothing and it just brings the recovery options back up. then battery pull is required for me to boot again. i am goin to start a new thread. i just wanted to make sure it wasnt a common fix befor i started a new thread thank you guys! i look forwars with sharing my results and hopefully get to help someone elses out there with info in the thread i start

you can read/write from the card through adb, i actually think thats how the flash works that way when you are typing :
su
# mount -o remount,rw..........
# cat /sdcard/flash_image > ......
# chmod 755.......
# etc. etc. etc.
lol, at least thts how i umderstand that as working. you can access it through your cmd promt with the right tools and drivers. the only thing is you have to put the files on your card using mass storage mode first, then you can command them to run functions. im going to do some reasearch on restoring phones stuck in bootloops and things of that sort, and maybe i can find something with similar constraints and follw those instructions, otherwise ill be starting a thread tmrw night
add: found an app called astro, its a file manager. i havent found a proper use for it yet, but it looks like a promising app; also looks like it could be dangerous to go mucking around in if you dont know what you are doing, so i won tmess with it any time soon

I don't know if you have tried to use the hard camera button yet,but that's the selection button for CWMod recovery, with xionia its the hard menu key.Edit: just saw your second to last post....Are you sure you tried the camera button?Sometimes you got to mash it hard and hold it.

Yeah, Andyopie is on to something there. Your smarter than you look!! lol :)

Edit: Now, I'm off to flash the new "Backside" ROM. Are you still running that Andy??

Super Manager is the best, you will see why if you give it a try.

im not going to chew up any more space on this thread. with my issue but when im up and changing roms like underwear when you have dirrahea ill be posting my fav roms. i cant wait to try a ginger bread rom, but im loving the BB EDIT: just dropped the phone in a storm drain when getting out of my car:( ill be posting again in a few days when i get a new phone. ill buy another OV. i feel like i have unfinished buisness

Yes I am. Everything that works, works. Everything that don't,still don't. Also I noticed you have to be careful when you plug and unplug the headset. Make sure the player is off or an amperage spike might make the headset not work the next time you plug in the headset jack, instead it will just play through the phone speaker. It happened to me and I had to reboot to get it back right.EDIT: Not having much if any success with the flash player. I'll keep trying to see what I can come up with.

I did some benchmark testing with DeviceMark and CF-Bench by chainfire. Got it all the way up to 825Hz-480Hz interactive before it started to randomly reboot. The best numbers I got were at 787Hz-480Hz interactive.Right now I'm running some stability tests ay 787Hz-480Hz interactive. Will run it hard all day until the battery goes to just below 20%. So far the stability testing is looking good. I'm also monitoring the battery Temp. More info to come
