Root Tired of Waiting for GB root/rom discussion

Bad news on the Nil's Business gingersense 3.0 1.6 - it was working great up until today. For whatever reason it keeps rebooting. I'm probably going back to stock seeing how that was stable and gingerbread is official now. I'll keep it rooted tho so I can remove the garbage apps.
 
Watch out going stock and upgrading as you will lose root, and have to wait for them to figure out how to root it again. By the end of the week the rooted stock gingerbread rom will be available.

as long as you stay s-off, you will ALWAYS be able to root again.

not really if you don't have the exploit to be able to flash su and ubtain root then your in trouble... I know when you unroot the inc you loses cwr putting stock recover on as well making out that much harder to do unless you are good with ADB shells
 
There is an ultimately slim chance that they could patch the exploit for s-off. I'm not expecting it but I will never forget hearing the warning from the Unrevoked team way back when. They said it would bork test phones so they considered it highly unlikely but not impossible.

if you have s-off you can always flash a custom recovery and install a rooted rom.

basically s-off gives you the ability to install whatever you want, doesn't matter what your rom status is.

unless, like iowa says, they patch the bootloader, which is extremely unlikely considering htc's current stance on bootloaders.

Having just upgraded, I'll give this advice.

WIPE THE CACHE (BOTH) SEVERAL TIMES

Maybe its me and bad luck but I've had trouble a couple times going from 2.2 -> 2.3.4

Don't try to restore any apps in titanium re-download them all and just restore the the data for the ones you need (angry birds:p).

I had trouble both times I tried to restore the titanium "dialer/storage backup" I just decided I didn't care about my call history :P


That said OMG I LOVE IT... and most of the things I like most are sense 3.0 items and wouldn't be in the OTA anyway...
 
Since finally rooting and flashing Gingersense 3.0, I have no need to check this thread but I still do every other day. It's a sickness. I love Gingersense and it should keep my incredible going until a worthy phone replacement comes out.
 
Yeah, I pulled the trigger, rooted, and flashed Nils' GingerSense. I'd spent hours with VZW tech support begging for a solution to the "low memory" error -- not because I thought they'd fix it, but I was hopeful I might weasel an Inc2 or something out of them. Long story short, with nothing promising from VZW or any hint the update would arrive, bug-free, anytime soon, I bailed.

Guess what! My new, old phone smells like fresh-baked GB to me.

I'm about to root with Nils' GingerSense as well for first time over my stock Dinc. I've done some research and it seems like a ROM that works really well and is what I'm after. What version are you using...and what process did you choose to initially root? (Seems like a lot of ways out there--but there's this language on Nils' site about requirements that I wasn't clear about that seems like you need to root a certain way: "Clockworkmod Recovery 3.x (3.0.0.7 for Amoled and 3.0.0.8 for SLCD)". I rooted my old Eris over a year ago but forgot the process and feel like this is the only way I'll get updated. Got to relearn all the old steps...

I was a well-read total noob at this until two days ago. I used unrevoked3 to root. Flashed Clockworkmod Recovery, though it was 5.0.2.0, not 3.x. I pulled Business_GingerSense-v3.0.zip by way of here (make sure you click through the 'download' link rather than right-click it). Renamed the file 'update.zip', and all was good, ready to flash. I'd highly advise a nandroid backup of your newly rooted phone, and a Titanium backup of everything, before you flash GingerSense.
 
Nils 3.0 is great, it has sense 3.0 and makes a whole new phone out of the Inc but IMO it does run a little slow compared to what new rooters might be used to. For anyone who wants a stock GB experience, I recommend:

[ROM] ◄ Official 4.06.605.3 ► Stock PLUS → "Now with Optional Warm Sprinkles!" 9/21" - xda-developers

The black dialer and the rosie remap addon make this the perfect setup. Not trying to talk anyone out of Sense 3.0, it's graphics are superior but if you want to maintain max speed...just throwing it out there.
