I have been there, done that. you are doing ok.
here is the steps. Go into recovery. In AmonRA, there is a USB toggle, that enable you to use the phone as a disk drive. You can then copy the ROM over to the phone that way.
By wiping everything, it means to check every box on the Wipe menu, EXCEPT SD card. I would do each one 2 times to be sure.
I would also re flash the newest version of the Radios. That way you know that they will get a chance to install correctly as you problems are exactly what happens when the radios are not right.
Flash the ROM FIRST, DO NOT REBOOT AFTER DONE. FLASH RADIOS, then reboot. Once the ROM loads up and you get everything set up. Titanium restores apps in revers alphabetical order. Some of the app restores take a long time if there is a lot of data with it. Be patient. Do not do anything else with the phone while it is doing it. I even put my phone in airplane mode to make sure.
hope this helps, there is nothing wrong with the EVO as a phone. It is still top dog for what it was made for.
there are dozens of tweaks that can be done to Warm 2.2. There is a battery tweak, SBC kernels, browser flashes, themes. 2.2 is about the most stable rom available.
