***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

i, too, hope that vzw doesn't screw up the Nexus and try to release it as a bloated up Droid Prime or something. personally, i think the time has come (and i think vzw recognizes, as well) for a pure Nexus device on vzw.

however, more to the point of your post, if vzw screws up the Nexus, the device i'm really looking at is the Moto Spyder (aka the Droid RAZR or Droid HD) - that thing looks mighty impressive. i would almost certainly take that before jumping to at&t for a Nexus.

I know Droid RAZR is coming. But I don't think Moto will have better screen, camera, processor than Samsung anytime soon though they are good in reception, call quality. AT&T here in SoCal works pretty good.

But Samsung unpack event with Google on 10/11 surely looks promising! So now I feel better and they probably won't blow out Prime like they did for SGS2.

Its all lies until FCC says different .[/QUOTE]

I'm not worried about the FCC so much as I'm waiting for there to be a giant ice cream sandwich on the lawn of Google's headquarters! :D:D

Seriously, I want to encourage you go join in. Okay? Thanks!

Before these invites went out Blog sites were saying they didn't see the next Nexus device being announced at this event because that is something that Google is always a part of.

Now that they are a part of this event it does make you wonder what they will be unveiling.

NOW WITH THAT SAID

...if they were to announce the next Nexus device.....wouldn't VZW also be included on this? That is if what we hope for is true. That is the only thing that has me a little apprehensive about thinking the Nexus whatever will be unveiled. Don't get me wrong i wish it was.

I do see maybe the SDK's being officially announced.

I'm not so sure Verizon would necessarily be there. Were there carriers present when past Nexus devices were officially announced?

And Steven, my son's 2. I have a while. :(

V. My bad.

Trophynuts! (What are you doing here?) :p

lol uhhh what you think your the only DX person cruising the other sites? Man i've had this thread on my favorites for a week or so. This and a few other devices.

Well that may be true....but If all of the hype is true about this being the "game changer" on VZW and that it will be the first device with ICS on it and all of that jazz...you'd think that VZW would be there. I mean they should know how bad we have been wanting a Nexus device on Big Red.

I do agree that it would be in Verizon's best interests to have a presence there. I suppose it's more hope that they don't necessarily HAVE to be there. Or, don't have to have branding on the invites at the very least. Perhaps they will still be there, they just don't have as big a hand in the actual device, and thus don't earn a spot on the invite.

I would think Google is trying minimize the carrier's involvement with the Nexus line. The miracle of getting Verizon to carry a (hopefully) vanilla android device may be enough to speak for itself without them present at the announcement.

Alright...I'm back! Steven, I've been lurking since I was so active in the Incredible thread back before it launched. I still have the incredible and have been patiently awaiting a worthy successor. I have found it and have been following here and over at Android Central for about six months. I'm done lurking. Let's talk about this phone!

With that said... Let's talk about the software keys that are going to be on this thing. Some renders, that I think are backed by absolutely no fact, show them as being buttons like Honeycomb. I, however, think they may be just the normal android buttons that we are used to, just software graphic renderings that come up on-screen below the launcher icons. Thoughts? Discuss?

One of my big gripes with honeycomb is the lack of a dedicated search button (with the other soft buttons) like on the phones. If they do away with this in ICS, I'll be a little disappointed.

This is great news! It is official that Samsung AND Google will be holding a joint event on October 11th. This all points to a new device running ICS to be released afterwards. The 11/3 and 11/17 dates make sense. Why hold a joint event if both companies don't have something new to unveil? Can't wait!

Yeah, I hear ya. I use the dedicated search button ALL THE TIME! And, of course, hold it down for voice search. My completely uninformed opinion is that the software buttons will work just like the buttons we are all used to. They'll just be integrated into the touchscreen. I guess we'll all find out soon enough.

Indeed we will. I would have to see how this functions. I enjoy having the home, search, etc., but I think I could get used to it were they to be implemented via software. There would probably be a few unhappy people about this though. It would be quite a change, I reckon.

I don't think Verizon will be at the event with Samsung and Google.
Verizon is getting a different version of the Prime.(SCH-i515) and thats a big IF.

The Samsung GT-i9250 is rumored to be the pure Google ICS device.

So only time will tell.

You mean ICS won't have one big button like the iPhone? :( ;) :p

I think rumors are that Apple is ditching the button too. Not positive though. Don't get too much Iphone news in here. Haha.

But that's interesting. Which button do you think it would be were Android to have single button hardware?

All in the name of progress, I suppose. I for one could easily forego the buttons in favor of the extra screen real estate.

The dimensions of the Nexus screen seem to indicate that it will hide the buttons in a full screen mode (movie, game) to allow a proper aspect ratio and have more display size. With the on screen buttons, it returns to a more conventional aspect ratio for the usable display space...

Also, in the ICS video leak, you can see that a device that already has physical buttons (a Nexus S) will not replicate them unnecessarily, something that has been of concern to others..

I would like to see at least one physical button for a panic mode.
For example; When you touch the wrong action on the phone you can cancel or stop that action.

There have been times when I hit the wrong contact and was able to stop it via a button.
