***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

So I have had the original Droid from Verizon, now the HTC Incredible, wife has moved onto the Thunderbolt.

The more I deal with everyday things in life, I am tempted to try out an iPhone. I know that Android is open, etc.....but the idea of everything being built for a single device is starting to get tempting.

I have read through this long thread....don't know if I have it in me to wait on this device like I waited forever for the Incredible....felt like I waited a decade for that thing to come out!

Are there ANY dates that actually make sense of this phone being released?

I decided to jump off the Prime wagon for a few days. This thread is way out of hand for me. And this waiting game is BS. :(

One thing I couldn't live without from HTC Sense is that it will do push email from Hotmail. The default Android email app will only do push from an Exchange server.

K-9 Mail is an excellent client that does push IMAP, but I guess Hotmail itself doesn't do IMAP. I found this article, not sure if it shows anything beyond what you already do.

I read on another board that Prime might not have a user removable battery. Not sure why they feel that way. Are there Android phones with non-removable batteries? I'd be screwed if this Tbolt didn't have a removable battery.

That would be deal-breaker for me. I haven't heard of any Android phone where this is true, and hope that's not a future direction.

Steven has a source that has knowledge of this being released on 11/3. Nothing concrete until it's in stores though.

Gotta do what's best for you. What would you get instead?

It seems that's a common rumor of Android phones but Idk of any that actually have non removable batteries. I remember reading that about different devices. I'm calling BS, I just don't see it happening.

Anyone ever use or hold a Hello Ocean?

The back of the battery was the back of the phone case. No extra cover adding cost, bulk or complexity.

There are always engineering solutions to problems as simple as thin and curved, in my opinion.

Removable batteries ftw! ;)

Hells yeah! I had one of those when they were still a new company. In fact, it were on their forums that I first heard of ANDROID and started checking out AC and found me way here.
That battery was a great idea and I would have to agree on Removable batteries ftw!:)

I blame the manufacturers for the skins and I blame the manufacturers along with the carriers for the bloatware. You don't need a skin to add support for hotmail. My Transformer supported micro SD cards even though stock Android didn't. All Asus changed were the software button designs and they added some widgets. That's cool with me and I appreciate the effort because it came without a tradeoff.

I like everything about Sense except for the performance decrease it always represents and because of Sense...software updates are not timely...just ask Tbolt owners. Then you have the Nexus S and Fascinate which were very similar phones but were two versions of Android apart for the longest time...that's unacceptable IMO.

Verizon customers haven't had a high end Android phone running stock Google since the first Droid. That is
ridiculous and why the Prime is so refreshing to me. You shouldn't have to root to run optimized software.

I see what you're saying. You're right they could make improvements and even add optional apps and widgets without forcing a full on skin on people. But you know the real problem is that these corporate executives at the manufactures can't let Android be without putting their own touch on it. It's the same as when you get Windows with a PC from an OEM. There's always something that they've added or customized. They're afraid that if the OS is the same on say a Bionic as it is on a Vigor what is going to make a customer buy a Vigor if the Bionic is cheaper. I can kind of see their point but the problem in their logic is that the majority of customers have no idea that there is even a difference between Android on Motorola vs Android on HTC in the first place.

Only reason to do that would be to make the build sturdier and make the device thinner. Having a removable battery adds thickness to the phone. But I hope this phone does offer thinness and the removable battery. :D

Actually a non-removable battery would have less power loss as well since there is some loss in the contacts of a removable battery.

I'm not as troubled as others seem to be about manufacturer skins. Sure most of us here would prefer a lean'n'mean vanilla Android experience on which we can load our favorite launchers and widgets. But lots of people buy Android phones who have no clue that you can do this stuff. I know several who are running bone stock!

The point is vanilla Android is dull, and I don't blame Moto and Samsung and the others for adding spice to make their phones appealing and useful for the users who just wanna buy a damn phone and use it without having to conduct a research project into the care and feeding of Android phones.

But I'm fully onboard objecting to preloaded crapware that occupies RAM and CPU time and can't be unloaded w/o rooting the phone. That one's a capital offense.

I'm looking for the ActivSync push functionality that Microsoft has now with Hotmail. It's essentially the same as Blackberry has been. Your phone email, calendar, contacts, etc. are linked to the server so whatever changes are made in either place it immedately shows in the other location. I tried a bunch of different things and unfortunately it's a limitation of the version of AES that Microsoft implemented with Hotmail. If the email client doesn't support it the sync won't work.

Are you sure? Energy doesn't evaporate, so if it doesn't go into the phone and doesn't get vented as heat, where does it go?

Yep...they just have to screw up a good thing :p

That would be true...but I don't know if that would be a "reason" to seal it off.

Dear Makers and Carriers,

Please market Android like cars with every model sold as SE (standard edition) and LX (luxury extension).

Make the SE vanilla Android, take your best shot at your LX with a reasonable add-on price and stop feeding us one size fits all models.

Thanks,
EarlyMon

Genius! Instead of better mileage, the SE model would get faster updates :D

There'll be a job opening after this thread is done, if anyone's interested. I'm tuckered out. :p

Don't Worry Steven you can still do it. When the Prime is announced it's going to come with a nice app named Iris that will do your bidding. Just make him mod these forums for you.

is it consensus that ics and the nexus prime will be announced and shown the same day. I am just wondering because I want to see if ICS is worth the hype and wait , if so then will wait for nexus prime , if not then probably will pick up an galaxy s2, since i dont think np will hit any other carriers other then vzw this year.

Heat and chemistry from contact resistance.
If the loss is significant, couldn't they just spec larger gauge connectors or even use some of the 2-3 square inches of the battery's bottom for broad contacts?

Maybe this is a dumb question, it's late and I'm tired.
