i think most are expecting the A5 to be the fastest gpu on the market until the A6. so until we see somebody else use the 543/544, expect it to outperform everything

OMAP 4470 uses the 544, although initial indications is that it's the single core version, albeit clocked much higher than the 543MP2 in the A5.

The OMAP 4470 I believe has already sampled. Although, as we all know, sampling and being available for production are two very different things.

i think i've read a high clocked single core 544 (like in the 4470) would perform favorably compared to the 543mp2. so there's hope in the 4470, yes. but how long it takes to get in a device? who knows. could very well be after the A6 launches, which i'm going to assume will use at least a 543mp4 (like the pspvita). then we're right back to now, getting a beat down from apple :p

What?!

Sampling doesn't mean they're putting in devices right now?!

sarcasm, right? it's hard to tell sometimes lol

But isn't the Bionic's radio crap? It keeps dropping from 4G to 3G even in high-quality 4G areas.

Or is that software related? I heard they're sending out an update in "November" which I think in Moto-speak means "March".

Haven't followed the Bionic threads much (other than watching you become completely deflated about a product :D).

My understanding is that Moto actually designed the 4G chip inhouse for a variety of reasons, and that was a big part of the delays. Perhaps bugs are still being worked out. Hope it's nothing serious and a software/firmware upgrade will remedy the situation.

Yeah, the GPS on my Droid Incredible runs circles around the GPS on my fiance's Epic 4G Touch. That GPS is horrible on that new phone. I honestly can't believe my old Incredible is that much faster. Lately, her GPS won't even lock in and work, but my Incredible gets a lock in about 5 seconds. Samsung definitely needs to get their GPS issues fixed, it's a big letdown. Hopefully the Prime won't have the same issues, because I used Google Maps Navigation ALL THE TIME.
By all indications I've been told that Samsung fixed all GPS issues on the Galaxy SII phones.

That's one of the first things I'll try out on the Prime. If it still doesn't work adaquately, no matter how much I like other things, the phone will be returned.

I guess that has to do with Sprint network problem or Samsung must have done something wrong on that version on Epic Touch. Every other version of SGS2 seems to be getting excellent GPS reception.

What the heck? The VZ CEO talks about how phones turn to crap before our upgrade date. . .I was expecting him to reveal some kind of yearly upgrade or something.

What a d bag

This is an excellent point. I spoke with a rep about the bs of no one year contracts. One of my arguments was that no device would last me two years, and he brought up Verizon backing all their devices for two years or something. I simply whatevered and laughed.

According to some here, as soon as the chip is sampled, the board has already been designed, hardware debugged, drivers completed and software verification has already been done. All that's left is soldering on the board and boxing the product up.

It is possible that Samsung kept initial production of the completed chips for thier own use, but I find that highly unlikely, since many would consider that anticompetitive behavior.

On identical hardware, it may perform favorably, but as I said before, the HD screen will consume more GPU power to get the same framerates. I don't think even then it would be fps comparable. But that's the old, fast 640x480 performance versus slower 1920x1080 argument. As long as the performance difference isn't noticable, then it becomes a moot argument.

Welp, Hans? It's about time you chimed in.

NOTE TO ALL: I was away from keyboard (AFK) today. Is there any news I need to know about? To update the OP with? Thanks for your help.

I've been making this same point ever since the repeal of the 1 yr contract. Just doesn't make sense and IMO forces people into unecessary insurance OR the old pull an old phone out of the drawer and blow the dust off trick. Who wants to go back to a dinosaur to "get by"....magdelaine. ;)

When I mentioned it before (a Verizon Droid upgrade plan rumor) nobody seemed to know WTF I was talking about. I mean, I guess I could have had a dream about it... I was hoping he would announce something too.

EDIT: Aha!

I think a lot of the issues were related to the GPS chip (ST-E, I believe) used in the SGS series.. which has been replaced completely by a SiRFstar chip.

By all reports, the SGS2 has no systemic GPS issues like the SGS series.

I've been chiming in all morning! But I must admit I hid behind a bush from about #5990 so I could ambush #6000. :D

well this bench shows what everything can do at 720p, so we already know about where the prime is going to end up. assume better drivers and a higher clock and you've got your answer
