***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

The decision to delay the announcement out of respect to Jobs could have been done without Verizon's buy-in, then announcement overseas where Verizon doesn't operate... I can see Verizon getting their feelings hurt over that.

That's a valid point, but I think that Verizon, the GIGANTIC corporation, could keep from acting like a 3 year old toddler throwing a temper tantrum in the interest of customer service.

I don't think either of these things would happen. Lets not forget that Google owns Motorola and that is generally one of Verizon's closest partners.

Oh I agree in all logic. Like a few others have said. These contracts are probably air tight at such a high stakes level - I don't think there is too much about 11/3 in jeopardy. That said - I hope I'm right! And I hope its still subsidized so I can burn my extra upgrade and my BB money.

Let's get our thinking hats on troops: Why is VZW irritated? Sounds like the phone is going to be released on Best Buy and others as well as VZW. Also, because of the multiple point distribution, VZW won't be getting as many as they want. And finally, if VZW, thinking they had Google by the ....., tried to put a skin on it, and Google said NO.

Yeah, you would think. My own personal experience tells me otherwise though.

Why can I not meet someone from in here in public and have someone finally know what I'm talking about?

It happens. I walked into a pub in Charlottesville recently, put my phone on the bar, staring into space, thinking about work. Guy next to me had an Evo sitting on the bar - bought me a brewski - turns out, he's a forum member here. :)

So many pubs, so little time - you never know who will stroll through one near you, nor when. ;)

....wasn't the official announcement from sammy for postponing the release " now is not the time to release a new device"...

that could mean " we don't want to tarnish SJ's legacy"

or it could mean..." we all don't have our s*** together yet and we're going to hold off another week"

so what your saying is i should go to more Pubs? ..

cool got it.

I've been thinking about this, as well, and it all comes back to how the supposed idea of canceling the unveiling because of SJ's death didn't ring true to me. If it had to do more with Verizon causing problems, then it makes more sense.

Remember, Google/Samsung didn't give a reason for the cancellation/postponement at first. They only included the SJ death thing in their second revision of the announcement. If it was really for as noble a reason, you'd think they would just say it immediately and move on.

Either way, I agree with the contractual obligations thing. We'll be getting a pure Nexus on Verizon November 3. I couldn't care less whether Verizon's happy or not.

Agree with this statement 100%. There are always this kind of stuff that happens behind the scenes but we don't always have a "source" telling us about it. This is also a Vanilla device and we all know how Verizon likes to have complete control. I remember hearing that Verizon was approached first about the Iphone before ATT however, it didn't work because Verizon didn't want to lose all their power. Look how that worked out for them..... We will in fact see this device on Nov. 3rd or whatever the internal release date is. No need to get your undies in a bunch!

You don't work for a major corporation, do you :p

Lawsuits over contract disputes? Never. :p

That's exactly my bet. VZW thinks they got played by Sammy/Google.

Could the problem be from the Galaxy Nexus being announced the same time as the Droid RAZR on October 18th.

Verizon can be upset that the Samsung's marketing will interfere with Verizon's campaign. It doesn't make sense from a business perspective to release two flag ship devices at the same time at different events. The coverage of the Nexus Galaxy can drown out the coverage of the RAZR.

A guy who supposedly runs a couple att stores was trying to talk up the android devices they have and I threw in about the nexus coming out and he had no idea what I was talking about. Said it was Verizon's galaxy s. I was about to explain that its a dev phone, pure android and what not. Then just figured I'm talking to a wall.

Why can I not meet someone from in here in public and have someone finally know what I'm talking about?

the people that work in those stores are sometimes pretty clueless.

The skin, not a chance, that is Samsung anyways. Now I could definitely see Verizon being told no to pre-loading their VZW bloatware, and having a problem, but that would seem to me to be something that would have been settled up front in the contract.

Of course! That's the Occam's razor explanation.

None of this is probably good for future Nexus devices on Verizon though I suppose. Unless of course this phone sets records for new 2 year contracts or something crazy.

Exactly. Money trumps antipathy.

Unless Sammy/Google was playing all sides due to carefully worded contract negotiations and VZW just realized that they weren't the exclusive.

I guess anything's possible, but they can afford smart lawyers so you wouldn't expect them to get sandbagged.

Early, just noticed you are from NM! We might've been in the same pub a few times if you're in Albuquerque. Lived in Rio Rancho for a good 6 years before coming back to Chicago (work). Worked in ABQ, went to O'Malley's off Central with the office for "business meetings" on occasion. :p

And then we've got the HTC Vigor (IncHD) coming out a few days later...

I could see that since vzw may want to promote the razr an lot more then galaxy nexus, since its an motorola phone and has locked boot loader and crapware?

Don't forget that the goals of VZW and Google are two vastly different things. VZW wants to get people to use their network and pay for its services. They are only interested in selling phones in so much as it is a means to that end.
Google wants to get people to use their services so they can collect as much data as possible and then sell it to advertisers. Both are out to make money and both will try to negotiate what they consider is the best deal for each of them. Neither is so altruistic that they really care much about their customers, except they want the experience to be acceptable enough that the customer wont leave and go to another network or another OS.

Point of the story is don't worry too much about the tensions between them both. It's just business. Leave the guns, take the cannolis.
