IMO, vzw will never give up their control. Doing so would make them irrelevant...as someone said earlier, just a dumb pipe. They will continue to pressure manufacturers to let them Verizon-ize their phones under the guise of "value-add" so they can keep a foothold in the market. They have to make everyone think that vzw can do it better than anyone else with their valuable services so that manufacturers don't just throw out devices to everyone. It's about market differentiation. I'd do the same thing in their position. I don't like it, but it makes business sense.

It's the network stupid.

I wish Verizon executives understand the only reason they are successful, instead of promoting v-cast or any other stupid service. The only thing they need to differentiate themselves is the network. It sells itself.

Assigned seating? That sucks

Yeah, not the most fun experience! The dood in the row next to me can stream pandora on verizon, I can't from my row, thus the hope for an SD card. I'll settle for 32gb, but I'm hoping that the LTE works somewhat better at my current location.

Hisler es Deuche wonder bite

....er something like that. Yea I'm german/scottish so imagine bag pipes in the background while reading that.

100% agree! It's the ONLY reason I have been with Verizon since before the company even had that name. I have always had stellar coverage and it has only improved. I must say I really enjoy the 4g speed as well.

I could care less about all their crapware now that smartphones are so prevalent, but back when people barely had Palm 650 (which I think was my first), the added value really was there. VZW is stuck in their ways I think.

Darn, someone beat me to the Godwin reference. :(

It happens. I walked into a pub in Charlottesville recently, put my phone on the bar, staring into space, thinking about work. Guy next to me had an Evo sitting on the bar - bought me a brewski - turns out, he's a forum member here.

"So Early and this Evo owner walk into a bar..."

I hear a lot of horror stories about VZW employees, but the ones at the store near me have always been great. They even managed to get my wife's Bionic on an unlimited data plan when she didn't have a data plan on her feature phone that was being traded in. I wasn't expecting that, so it was pure class.

I've gotten good service from them too, both over the phone and in stores. They usually don't know about upcoming phones, but that's not really part of their job, and I usually know way more about the phones they do have, but so does everybody reading these forums. ;)

That's all true, but they're raking in the $$$ even just providing that dumb pipe.

I have a Samsung Rogue with a cracked screen, the "a" button rarely works on the slide out Qwerty, and the battery only lasts for a day with minimal usage (since the screen is cracked). I loved it when I first got it, but my ex wife threw it across the room one night while she was drunk, and it's never been the same since. :(

Hahahahahaha! I love stories of drunk wives flipping out. Good stuff

I think this is most likely the explanation for VZW anxiety.

Although I do have another theory I would like to put up for scrutiny: what if Verizon's exclusivity for the Ganexy(yeah, that's what I'm going with) was vague or unclear, and the GSM version is coming out without violating the exclusivity agreement?
I'm really wondering if this is where the confusion over the name is coming from.

Perhaps Galaxy Nexus is the Verizon-branded "exclusive" device, and Nexus Prime is the GSM phone for the other carriers...or vice versa.

Damn. How are you suppose to hook up with Becky from HR when Ben is streaming all of his kick@$$ Hasslehoff via Pandora? That guy's such a deusche.

There you go being logical. :p

I kind of look at all the vzw crap like bank fees. Once you start bringing in the cash from them, you can't stop. And until vzw starts loosing so many customers that the miscellaneous over-charges are no longer profitable, there's no reason for them to stop.

This all depends. If'n VZW has access to and service on the old analogue spectrum in your area 700mhz LTE won't be A LOT different because that was in the 800-850mhz range or about the same frequency/wavelength for penetration. Maybe a TINY BIT better with LTE since it is a lower frequency and bigger wave by a BIT. If'n VZW only owns 1900mhz PCS air in your area and uses that only though, LTE will be WAY better in obstructed locations.

Oh, and probably have PCS and are going to do way better in the building if'n your reception is perfectly fine near full bars just outside the building as that would tend to suggest PCS.

Nice Info, thank you! Do you know if verizon publishes this info anywhere?

Not really. Just comes from knowledge of radio performance stuffs and spectrum ownership in the area and such. It's a pain, but you can figure out who owns what spectrum in your area on the FCC site. Been so long since I did such research though that I would be forever finding the right links.

But, basically lower frequency bands penetrate better because they have a longer wavelength that allows them to go around and through things better would be my laymen way of explaining it. Kinda like how sound works. You can hear a sub thump through lots of stuff, but won't hear a hint of a cymbal crash unless you are in the room almost.

I hear ya! Gotta keep up with the times here! Of course, I think my wife would put an end to me after that.

You ever see the vid of Hassehoff laying on the floor because he's so hammered, and trying to eat a hamburger? Thats his best entertainment value IMO. :D

It's possible it was gonna be a Droid even at only point and then it woulda been a Droid Prime and really turned on some of us geeks. My guess is Galaxy Nexus is the universal name VZW had no say in and that it's not a Droid because if'n it was VZW would have had too much say in what software was shipped on the phone since they own that name.

Guessing though that Droid was outta the question as soon as Google picked it as the Nexus. I have a feeling though that RAZR and some OMAP version of Vigor were in the running for Nexus also and that VZW has had some exclusive on Nexus and ICS for the USA all along. If'n I developed a device in a competition to get googles latest, but lost I would probably go ahead with the device if I thought it would be competitive even without ICS.
