***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Ive been away from this thread for a day or two .. Which probably means I've missed a few thousand posts.

Has it been confirmed that the Verizon version is to be the only one with LTE?

So, to help lighten the mood a bit, how about some opinions?

I have a stencil drawn up for a pumpkin. The bottom isn't as flared out as the pic shows. Strange. Anyway, let me know if you guys would recognize this while taking your kids out trick or treating. :D

Aw. Sorry it's on its side. I can't get it rotated.

this reminds me of another question...

do the buttons disappear whenever you rotate the NP/GN into landscape-mode?
-> are the buttons only visible in portrait mode?

This is something ive been advocating in this thread and in the 4.65" thread. I'm wondering if more people are beginning to realize that this phone may not be a true 4.65" screen.

I hope this is the case with the buttons or even better would be a long press would enable and disable them...in either mode. But landscape would make more sense.

This right here is VERY important and well said. I will also add this is the very reason I do NOT think we will see a "real" Nexus device on our network. AT&T, T-Mo etc etc will get the actual Nexus device and Verizon will get a watered down version of it. No NFC, maybe vanilla Android, Verizon bloat. I believe it's called the Galaxy Nexus for a reason. It's not the real Nexus.

Another reason it won't be a Nexus is because of what g_patrick posted above. Updates coming straight from Google........when hell freezes over.

Verizon kneels at the feet of Apple and bows to their every whim but in regards to their Android partners, they clearly write the rules.

If that happens then I may just leave.VZW for another carrier. I do want a true Nexus device.

If VZW does rape this project/phone I think everyone who wanted a Nexus needs to bombard VZW with emails and calls of disappointment.

If enough of us do (meaning all of us) do this maybe the will finally get the message that we are tired of being bent over.

I was talking about this last night. I really don't want to leave Verizon, but my interest in a true Nexus device is beginning to outweigh my loyalty as a customer.

I'm just sayin', Verizon, customers will only take what's forced upon them for so long. Then they start weighing their options...

Not many people are willing to actually leave (for a plethora of reasons). Why would Vzw care about your emails and calls if you stay with them?

Supply and demand, open market, competition. all big enterprizes forget about because they merge aka buy out competitors to make a monopoll or limited the competition so they can rule the market and not the market them.

P.S. But then you all live in USA the country of capitalism. You think you are free to have you opinion, but you are not. But thats a thema for a different forum ! Cheers

Not sure what you're trying to say...

1. If as we heared there isnt a sd slot on the phone, does google-samsung have a solution for the backup-store lets say it problem, and if yes will it be free or will be there some kind of charge. (a nicely made rip of the customers).
2. Ics will be open source or will google keep the code for it self and his marieg with motorola, so he provide a phone but her self with a 3rd party involving on it as she dont till now with the other 3 phones. (hard to ask that and even harder to get an answer for this)

3. Did you use Samoled and not plus because of the power problemm with the battery life on a smartphone with technology of displays?

Some questions I could think I would ask

I can answer #2. It will be open source. The GPL, which some of the components in Android are licensed under, requires it. You are making too big of a deal out of the Google-Motorola thing. In fact, Honeycomb is open source, too. However, since it was not open development (meaning only the final source is required to be released), Google has been able to keep it under wraps by saying it is not ready.

However, since they have pubicly stated that ICS is HC's finalization, they will be forced to give up ICS' source code. At least if they want to remain within GPL guidlines. Which they will, because they are Linux Foundation members (as am I....you should be too if you enjoy android. Go! Now!), and they would not piss off the whole Linux and open source community (let alone the people from whom they license the code) by not open sourcing ICS.

A. If hundreds if not thousands do it they will have to at least respond if not cave next time.

B. If they do not respond or cave then I will not stay.

If people start to not upgrade so that they become month to month that is the first step. I know a lot can't or won't leave but you might be surprised how many can and will.

You or others may be okay just taking what scraps they throw us but I and many others aren't. The only way VZW will change is with pressure.

I am not calling for a mass abandonment of VZW I am simply saying that if we don't get what we want WE all need to complain.

Companies will and do listen if enough voices are heard. That is how things get done in America. Those which opt to just roll with it or say " why would they listen" help things not.to change.

Verizon needs to realize that they don't have as big of an advantage with their network over other carriers as they once did. That advantage should continue to decrease over the next couple years as their competitors build out their LTE networks. And here's a thought, since the other carriers are building after Verizon it stands to reason that they'll be getting newer and better LTE technologies that will also most likely bring production cost savings as well. What kind of advantage do you think it would be for example if Sprint builds out a LTE network that cost half and much while covering most of the same area, is faster, and costs half as much to maintain?

If Verizon wants to keep us as customers and continue to charge us premium pricing for their service the better do something substancially better than everyone else to justify it. And Verizon if you're reading this forcing your crap like VZ Navigator on us isn't what I mean.

You are absolutely right. That's preciously why I'm on a month to month at the moment. I did the same thing on AT&T waiting for them to get good alternatives to the iPhone and left when the didn't. "Unlimited data" is the only thing keeping me on Vzw but I have wifi at home and at work and am prepared to leave at any time.

Problem is that many people will stay and Vzw knows it. Tmobile is the best carrier in my eyes; hopefully, they don't get bought by AT$T.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like a conspiracy theory in the making. Companies are allowed to merge. I am going to assume you mean the Google-Motorola deal. As I said in my last post which should be right above, Android is a always will be open source so long as the contains GPL components in it. That means there will almost always be options from other carriers. If, somehow, Google makes the proprietary part (a.k.a the Gmail app and market and things like that) so good that they make the OS, too bad. We are not owed a phone that runs android the way we want it to.

They force you to buy theyr products mate without having a big alternative solution.

No company has ever forced you to buy anything. Not once. At least not in the US, which you seem to think is a place where coorporations rule the world and control everything.

PS: To reiterate the on topic part of this post again, ICS WILL BE OPEN SOURCE.

I am in wi fi range 90% of the time also. And as I mentioned before it.would be $10 cheaper a month to switch to T-Mobile with 10gb of data which to me is pretty much unlimited

more of an ICS question as im still yet to try android (waiting for this dam phone to be released b4 i make the switch) but when ICS comes out on this phone, are all the current apps like Titanium Backup going to work, or do ALL apps have to be redone/adjusted to work with the new android OS?

just wondeirng if it makes sense to get it on release day or wait a bit till app developers get a chance to update their apps

What? That's not true. If your unsatisfied with their services, there are plenty of carriers, small and large, for them to go to as alternatives.

If the nexus from vwz is the only nexus with LTE wiil they not ? And I dont mind I never had or will buy a phone with a contract I pay abit more but I am free to switch where and when I want. And not you take this spec of the device for X months payment and if you a good boy I will reward you (slave you for x months again).

It is. Though not any more than the rest of the industrialized world, I suppose.

I value your opinion but it has changed course a few time during this thread, so lets discuss a couple of things from your statement.

I was led to believe that NFC was a hardware chip and because the phone has already been produced it seems unlikely the VZ Nexus would be excluded from the NFC chip given that they need it for their own payment endeavor.

As far as vanilla ICS and VZ bloatware, every sourced leak has indicated it would be pure ICS and bloatless as indicated by the leaked files showing very few VZ files included. You may have an option otherwise based on VZ's past actions but the fact that they changed their direction with Apple just this year indicates they can and have given up some control that they previously wouldn't consider in years past. The leaks and files along with our sourses statements indicating VZ's executives being stressed out towards the final days indicates they are boxed into a corner and have very few ways out. I'm not saying that your opinion isn't without merrit but the odds are leaning against your theory being the end result in this case.

Finally your point seems based on the phone being called Galaxy Nexus, I would have given more credance to that theory if it had been given a final name of Samsung Droid Prime as was once rumored, but the fact that it is being called a Nexus, and no phone with the nexus name has been anything other than pure in all ways once it was released to the public leads me to believe this will be the case again with the Galaxy Nexus.

As far as VZ's relationship with Apple I can tell you that VZ is not happy with their contractual agreement with Apple, but it does show they are sometimes bound by contracts and influenced by public pressure.

I want the pure Nexus experience on VZ and I have the opinion that given the evidence produced by first and second hand experiences with the device I believe it will happen in soon.

Hmmmm if the button will disapear and the screens get wider. What wiill be the resolution. Meaning it says 1280*720 on what screen the small or the wider?

The only problem i see with this is t-mobile blows for coverage. Maybe you might be lucky in your area, but they just suck. I used to work optimization for them.

As for the Verizon bit. The problem is, this forum makes up such a small percentage of their sales. It's like people who buy apple because its so cool. No one is going to leave verizon to make them give an ef because they are comfortable.
