I should have stopped reading right there. We've been talking about Oct. 27, Nov. 3, and Nov. 10 launch dates, and now they're saying Oct. 19 and that it was supposed to come out a week ago? Uhhh...But, let's carry on a bit...

No, this is just some twit looking to create controversy and generate page hits. The ICS statue is at Google, and Larry Page himself said he was excited about ICS. There's nothing fictitious about ICS.

I disagree. Until I see ICS on a phone in the market, I think it may not be real. In fact, there is a really good chance it is all hype.

I also refuted the existence of Elephants until I first went to the zoo (pics of them are too easy to photoshop), and I still have serious reservations about the existence of the countries of Morocco, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Tunisia, and Venezuela, among others. Not to mention the Vatican....

Please excuse me for bringing up something that may have been covered somewhere in the previous 11K+ posts...but have we conclusively determined what the three holes on the side of the GNex actually are? Is it a docking port of some sort? If, yes, docking to what?

I was just day dreaming during my lunch hour and thought how cool it would be if the GNex docked to a tablet-like display, thus giving you the ability to transform your phone to a tablet. Phone + Tablet = Better Together. That sure would be a game changer.

Why though? If you have a tablet you already have a tablet. What benefit does docking a phone into a tablet bring? I just don't see what that brings to the table. What's the point?

uhm... sry but it was said to be the winner in the CTIA Category "GAMING AND ENTERTAINMENT ENTHUSIAST"... so of cour'se we were expecting the Nexus Prime/ Galaxy Nexus to be a gaming device... :p

...it's being touted as a Gaming and Entertainment handset

All these benchmarks are bunk at this point. To spend any more than 3 minutes talking about them is 3 minutes too long.

Nobody even knows what build number and what version of hardware it was bench marked on. If i was a betting man I'd say those benchmarks are just smoke and mirrors. The actual device will bench quite impressively, as in better than the SGSII

"GAMING AND ENTERTAINMENT ENTHUSIAST"

;)

but if you're expecting the benchmarks to increase significantly, you're going to be disappointed. but i'm still not sure what there is to be disappointed with. it's still one of the fastest andriod phones on the market

The DX bootloader is locked yet it has ROMs. Locking doesn't seem to be much of a barrier. Rooting seems far more important to most users.

To be blunt, I suspect a lot of people see a locked bootloader as bad without it ever affecting them, but they make a statement like, "RAZR has a locked bootloader, pass!", without understanding why. I'm not suggesting you are doing that Steven, which is why I'm asking, what is the advantage?

I know that I don't know and I want to know!

Yes but the problem with 2init Roms has been battery life. My DX is running GBCM7 and the battery life, although not as bad as the previous Froyo version, still leaves much to be desired. Many have said that an unlocked bootloader can help with that issue.

We know Kazakhstan is real. Haven't you seen Borat? :p

They're definitely for docking of some sort.

The Nexus One has similar pins on the bottom.

I imagine these would be used for car docks, media docks, and, well, perhaps Google is going for greater integration and will use them to dock with GoogleTV and tablets or PCs/laptops.

My thought was being able to buy an add-on display (not full tablet) that had a docking slot on the side that you slide the GNex into (or something like that), transforming it into a tablet. Just thought it was a cool idea.

I was wondering about this too.

So, if you have a locked bootloader, is the ROM that you install more of an overlay, and Motoblur (for the sake of argument) is still running in the background?

And if you have an unlocked bootloader, you can completely get rid of all traces of Motoblur and all the battery drains that go with it?

Is this right?

Dude, this was already outed as Cyanogen being a troll. None of that is true.

Anything that I post in here, I post purely in the spirit of the name of the thread. Speculations and Rumors thread. I don't believe any of it, but if I haven't seen it posted, I will. It's not up to me to decide what people looking for rumors choose to believe, but if they come here looking for them, they should have the most comprehensive collection, IMHO.

There's a line of thunderstorms coming through Tennessee and the South tonight, 80% of rain. We need the rain... but if my power goes out during this live stream I'm gonna take my electric razor to my wrists!

Not sure what good it'll do... but I'll have pretty wrists... :p

A things. I'm sure you've soft bricked your DX at some point. This happened because your Android "system" didn't meet the standards set by Moto so it fails to boot (won't go past the "M"). With other phones, you can still boot into recovery and fix your phone by loading a backup.

Also, I'm sure you are fully away of what it took to bring CM7 to DX. That incredible amount of work done by Cvpcs may not be possible for future locked down phones. All other Roms for the DX were based on Moto's stock Roms (for better or worse).

Generally, Rom devs congregate around devices that are easy to develop for. If you're comfortable running stock (or modified stock firmware) for the lifetime of your phone, then you have no problems (other than Moto's consistent attempts to break root).

Hey ...I have an idea.

For those of us that were in the DInc forum when it was new, there were a lot of posts about batteries, testing the batteries, true capacity, etc. Even in the Thunderbolt forum. Because I have done research in a MatSci lab specializing in enhance Li-Ion battery cathode and anode crystal structures, I tried to correct a lot of the popular rumors that were going around and whatnot, but there was never any real tests done.

So, I propose the following:

If you want, you follow a simple set of instructions for the first charge. There will be two sets, one for instant use and one for full charge while off then regular use. There are apps in the market which analyze battery current, so if you use that and post the file it creates, I can anaylize it (a basic MatLab script will do) and we can have a real test of our battery and if there is a statistically significant difference between the two initial charging methods.

So...any takers? Good idea? Too much work?

I'm down. Sounds easy, and it would be nice to put this question to bed. Now all I need is a Nexus with a new battery

It would be foolish for Google to allow that.

Google is not a foolish company.

I'd lay good money on the bootloader being unlocked.

Google is not a foolish company... unless you consider the failures of Buzz, Page Creator, Notebook, Jaiku, Dodgeball, Audio Ads, Wiki Search, Wave, Answers, Video Player, Web Accelerator, Catalog, and X. Other than those, they have a perfect record! :D

the glbenchmarks are purely based on gpu performance, and we all already know the gnex is rockin' the SGX540 OC'd to 384 mhz.

That's only known for a 1.5GHz device. If it's 1.2GHz, then the GPU could possibly be anything down to the 304MHz of the 4430.

NOT A GAMING DEVICE. I want to see some browser benchmarks though!

Yes! And not w/debug kernel either.

Not really an overlay, my understanding with the way 2init works is somewhere in the middle of the initialization the 2init code takes over and boots from that kernal instead of the stock kernal. I'm not entirely sure if the original kernal is running in the background but I don't think it is. With the unlocked bootloader you shold be able to do more than just do away with Motoblur, you should be able to run a completely custom version of Android, like CM7. But along with that you can also determine clockspeed of the CPU and I'm sure many other things. I am just starting to get into modding and putting ROMS on my phone, I'm sure there are far more qualified individuals to explain it better and clean up this mess I wrote.

Ok so if it's just like a basic screen with its own battery and uses the phone as it's brains then yes, cool indeed. That is if the price reflects what you are getting. A bare bones touch screen basically. If it was more than 2-3 hundred bucks then count me out.
