***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

why is it even a question if verizon is getting it or not? i'm confused.

It isn't.

I understand that some people use the bloatware and that = revenue. What I don't get is why the people who don't want to use it can't remove or disable it. The people who want to remove it aren't going to use it just because they can't remove it.

Because if people could remove it at will, then the bloatware wouldn't be as valuable to the companies sponsoring them. Why do you think that TiVo took out the "skip commercials" feature early on? Sponsors got pissed because people suddenly had the option to not see them there. So now we're forced to continue to view them, even if it's at double or triple speed. Sponsors want us to be forced to see them. Verizon is happy to oblige, for the right price.

future proof? every benchmark we have seen shows its going to be a HORRIBLE gaming device. the 3d capabilities are horrendous. if youre never gonna run any 3d applications then maybe its for you.

Is there more than one benchmark that has been released, other than the one on the gimpy, debug-mode firmware? That means less than nothing.

You won't get a true estimate until it's in testers hands at the tech sites.

Also, I can't find the picture now, but in one of the press release shots, it clearly shows that the OS version announced last night is Android 4.0.1. That means that it's already been updated, even before release.

Again, those benchmarks mean less than nothing.

This is one thing that Duarte talked about either in the video or in the thisismynext.com interview. He said that people could remove any apps, including stock Google ones that they didn't want. I could see VZW putting some bloat on this and then letting people remove it as they saw fit.

I'm not understanding this. .I watched the entire event, and they made sure not to mention any US carriers when they spoke about phone availability. Now somehow the word has gone around that this phone will be EXCLUSIVELY on VZW. These have started from rummers, none of this has been confirmed AT ALL. All we know is that it has LTE (meaning it will be on Verizon), but as far as it will ONLY be on Verizon, and it will ONLY be on Verizon for a while than start spreading to other carriers, none of this has ANY solid evidence AT ALL. .its all rummers started by the same people that made false claims about the device time after time.

Having that said if they said anything at all last night about carrier availability (which they really didn't say anything), they said that they have an LTE and an HSDPA version of it, which if anything at all means that it WILL be carried by VZW, ATT, T-Mobile etc.

And if anything else, as of right now the GSM version is the ONLY version that has passed through FCC (and yes I know that the CDMA version can make it through quickly as hell as well), making it even harder to believe that it would be exclusive to a CDMA carrier when the device has gone through with ATT and T-mobile bands already (which I know could very well be for other parts of the world). .

All that i'm pretty much going by is what we have on the table at this very moment, ,and this thing could very well be exclusive to VZW for a while, but with what I see on my table everything is leading toward availability for all.

lol please don't hate me for saying all that. . just reading my table out loud thats all

yes, glbenchmark, and quadrant.

whats so hard to believe? the sgx540 is from 4 years ago. 2007. the resolution of this device has 2.4x the number of pixels thus it needs to work even harder. an overclock doesnt help it that much.

Sounds reasonable. I for one would love for it to be available simultaneously on all carriers. There are a lot of people that would love to have this device, and they shouldn't be denied.

Having said that, the screen shots I posted on the last page show only Verizon branding.

why would it take 6+ months for another ics phone to come out?

Let me just clarify by saying "in the US". Between release schedules, exclusives, and testing ad nauseum, it takes forever to get stuff out the door. And I see ICS as requiring a major overhaul to the skinned UIs. Now, they could trend towards more vanilla offerings, truthfully, but that'll take reinvention of the wheel for the big boys. Things like Sense, TouchWiz, Motoblur have been the market differentiators used to sell these devices. Just pointing out the reality.

I'm probably never going to play anything more advanced than Angry Birds or Robo Defense on it.

I, for one, couldn't care less that it does not have the latest GPU.

Google Galaxy Nexus - OpenGL ES performance and system information

the youtube video of it running quadrant is a page or two back. go search for yourself. it got 1700.

So, from what I'm seeing so far.....this phone is terribly underpowered.

this is why im waiting to see if the galaxy s 2 hd comes out soon. seems like a much better phone, other than itll have to wait a bit for ics.

As in get every update release from 4.0 forward, there are a lot of devices that are still running on old versions.

You won't see FCC docs until Verizon makes their official announcement. Knowing them, they're probably waiting for the Google and Samsung love parade to die down a bit so they can take center stage.
Everybody in the US is already sitting in the seats staring at an empty stage.

No FCC on the device and no official confirmation. I'm not worried, concerned or freaking out. I'm only waiting and not jumping on the bandwagon just yet.

If it was going to be a Verizon exclusive or released on Verizon first somebody at the event would have broke that story by now. Don't you think? Perhaps there is a delay. Perhaps it's nothing more than people wanting to keep it a secret that Verizon is going to be releasing it first and/or exclusively and are waiting for big red to do it themselves.

I don't know anything right now except that we have 2 confirmed carriers and none of them are in the US.

Could the fact that this is hardware accelerated hurt the benchmarks? Not that I place any stock in synthetic benchmarks.

I think the part about Verizon wanting to do it themselves is the reality. They are notorious for holding phones tight to their chest, with the exception of the one they are truly going to promote the crap out of. As we can see, the RAZR will be getting most of the Verizon ad love, And why not, its very clear that Verizon puts their Droid phones over all others. I am actually kind of happy to see this, as it means I have a better chance of getting a GNex on release day :)

Nailed it.:)
Verizon will not let us know untill a week before release, just like any other phone.
For example ; If it is going to be released on Nov. 3, then we will hear about it on Oct. 27.

And if Verizon screws us, then I will give you full rights to break out the Fruit Loops.;)
