......I need to find one of those "House Divided" bumper stickers I see around here (for example, one side has an ECU Pirate and the other side has UNC Tarheels), except it would the Android/Apple logos. :D Most people would look at it and go, "huh?" like they do with most other decals I have on the back of my car.

Like this?

My poor, senile but Beloved Droid is hanging in there. She really is a trooper.

I think we're all hoping for the 17th. But if it's the 24th... well, that's only another week. We can hang.

Very much doubt that it'll be the 24th. That's THANKSGIVING DAY and people are not going to go out and buy a phone that day (except maybe us :D ). Next day is Black Friday and everyone will be at Walmart and Best Buy from 4AM on. After Black Friday? Everyone will be too broke to buy a phone! Verizon would be crazy to wait that long... they'll lose way too many sales.

If there's a drop-dead date for release, on a Thursday, the 17th it is. No later than. Verizon undoubtedly knows this.

You make a very good point about the timing around Thanksgiving. The only thing that is slightly concerning to me is the wording they used on the SGN's availability for Verizon: "later this year". Seems like it would be stupid to release after Thanksgiving, but you never know.

So I think with your point, our possible release dates are the 10th(hopefully), the 17th(bleh), or December 1st(noo!!!). I think the 3rd is highly unlikely unfortunately, except maybe as a pre-order date.

Morning. All caught up. What I understand from last night's banter is:

1. The screen is too big
2. The screen is took blurry for those times you use a magnifying glass.

Steven shakes his head. ;)
Thanks for the summary! I didn't really want to go through what I missed.:o

The few things I have ordered from Verizon, a signature is always required. I have left notes asking to leave the package and they don't. I end up watching the tracking from work and telling them I will pick up from the hub on the way home. It's such a pain that I would rather just run up to the store and pick it up.

I am quite a few pages behind, so forgive me if this has been covered already...

My understanding of VZW's shipping policy is that they require the carrier to attempt delivery at the stated address one time before allowing the package to be diverted to a second address or to allow pickup at the carrier depot.

Yeah, but there could potentially be compatibility problems.

But there probably won't be.

I am running 2.3.7 and can run apps built for 1.5 and 1.6 just fine. They just don't take advantage of the new features released in future APIs.

I have to agree. The only thing about this phone that bothers me is the size. Going from a TP2 to the GNex might be difficult. Am I going to need two hands to hold the thing?

I hear ya. I'm going from an OG to nexus and have started to be a little concerned about the size. Am I going to need shoulder straps for this bad boy?

I cant see them waiting ubtil december. I would think they want to launch it before the worldwide version since in their press release they said about it being first to run ics and yes the international is the same but technically eould be second to launch with ics if they wait until after the worldwide launch.

Just ordered my GNex, phew that feels better. Hope I get it promptly on the 17th.

SIM free 16GB £514.

Congratulations! That must feel good. However, if VZW only offets a 16gb GNex, I'll be saying "Hello Moto". No 32gb = Deal Killer for moi. But if what we've heard rumored is true, all is well.

Again congrats on your pre-order.

Celebrate the little things. :-)

What?? Thanksgiving is coming??! Seems I forgot I'm going on a two week trip to visit the in-laws the day before Nov. 17. The Nexus has to be released Nov. 11 at the latest or they are going to think I'm absolutely moon-batty crazy over phones. If I have to take this trip with my BBerry I will be impossible to live and/or travel with.

Hear my pleas Verizon! November 11 or bust!

It seems that all the high end Android phones coming out are 4"+ screens. I have the first Droid Incredible and love the size of the phone, 3.7" screen. One of the reasons I gave my upgrade to my wife earlier this year is because the Thunderbolt and other bigger screen phones seemed heavy and didn't appeal to me. Another reason was that her line was eligible on Oct 17th, and I figure that around this time something absolutely amazing would come out that I really really wanted...Nexus :D Glad I guessed right!

From what I have read, the GNex's curved screen helps it not feel as big. The reviews from those lucky enough to review the phone say that it feels great and surprisingly non-bulky.

If VZW only offers the 16GB version, or if it offers the 32GB version for $399.99, I will be saying "Goodbye GNex and Moto" and wait until my "real" upgrade comes (March 2012) instead of using my early upgrade and get an extra $50 dollars off of whatever phones are out then.

Yep, with the lack of SD card I'd have preferred to get the 32GB, but apparently that's not coming to the UK. It's not a deal breaker for me though, I've got a 16GB iPhone at the mo and I manage to squeeze everything I need on there.

I am a little concerned about backups though. I've read backups are normally made to the SD card. If my device is nearly full and there's no SD card, I assume I can plug into a PC/external HD over USB and backup to there? Anyone know if that should be possible.

LOL, I completely understand.

Just a courteous reminder, sweetie, that Christmas is actually in December this year...

Public service announcement over :)

Pre-orders on November 3rd, relatively quiet release on the 10th. Or shift everything back a week. I think we can deal with either scenario.

I don't see why GNex would limit this function, every other phone allows you to plug in and copy your files off.

the "internal" memory functions just like a SDcard. you do your back-ups to it the same way. Plug into your computer and copy them over if you want...

And really not many people even own a microSD reader. which means the process is exactly the same.

The only thing the lack of a SD card affects is people who like swapping them (i.e. for music, videos, etc) OR people that buy a bigger one to upgrade the space. And it is a issue for these two groups...

I understand you can copy your files off, and I agree, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to with the GNex.

However, my concern is over the backup process, which I'll have to plead ignorance to as I've not owned an android before, so please correct me.

It sounds like the backup "apps" backup to the SD card. Then if you like, you can copy that off onto a PC etc. My concern is that with no SD card, will the backup app be able to backup straight to PC/HD rather than backing up to the onboard memory and then me having to copy across. I think I'll be sailing pretty close to the wind with just 16GB and might not have enough space for the backup.
