Trying again, this time linking through photobucket. Hope it works.

Maybe your house, not from my house!

I understand you can copy your files off, and I agree, I see no reason why you shouldn't be able to with the GNex.

However, my concern is over the backup process, which I'll have to plead ignorance to as I've not owned an android before, so please correct me.

It sounds like the backup "apps" backup to the SD card. Then if you like, you can copy that off onto a PC etc. My concern is that with no SD card, will the backup app be able to backup straight to PC/HD rather than backing up to the onboard memory and then me having to copy across. I think I'll be sailing pretty close to the wind with just 16GB and might not have enough space for the backup.

I see your point. I don't backup apps, I use too so that I could reinstall them every time I flashed a new ROM, but now they restore themselves from the market.

I would assume, and just an assumption people, that perhaps their is an internal memory location for this similar as to an SD card, that when a factory reset is done or rooting or whatever, that this location is not disturbed. I could not imagine having to plug in your phone and back up everything every single freaking time you wanted to flash a ROM or whatever that would cause a wipe of the system. If so, then I think GNex and ICS failed.

Also, it might back up in the "Cloud". I have just recently started using the cloud for my pictures and videos as I have put my trust in Google+.

Dumb question but this will be my first android upgrade, from a now dead OGD. I know the apps will restore, but what about local data (not SD data). I didn't have anything that I'm not willing to lose, but am curious as to how this is handled.

Looks like Nov 17 for Europe (ALL of it) is official.

European Galaxy Nexus availability | Android Central

I'm a little puzzled by this. The UK also announced carriers before the U.S. Here, we practically had to force Verizon to admit they're going to carry the device, which they still haven't given us any firm dates on. Then they begin to advertize their U.S. exclusivity (which would explain why other U.S. carriers haven't announced their intentions) but quickly pull down their "exclusively from Verizon" banner...and we're still kind of in some sort of limbo land. My guess is Verizon's "exclusivity" combined with their "strategy" to maximize individual phone sales despite releasing their big 3 phones (RAZR, G-Nex, Rezound) all the same time has really made for a confusing U.S. launch. As much as I was pleased that Verizon would be first to get it in the States ('cos I'm on Verizon), I'm starting to get pretty ticked with how they seem to be messing this up.

But what I intended this reply to be about is actually the possibility of the UK getting the phone first. I didn't follow the Nexus 1 or Nexus S launches closely, but given that Google is an American company, I assumed that those phones launched first in the U.S. I figured the G-Nex would also launch in the U.S. first. But is it possible that Google would launch their phone elsewhere before bringing it to the States? What do you guys think? Is their any precedent for this? I'm really hoping Verizon just comes out and surprises us by offering the phone ASAP, but I'm starting to consider the alternative.

I believe local data is stored on the SD card, so if you can't port it over to your GNex then it will be lost. Also, I think it rewrites it's own anyways. But don't quote me on that.

Off the top of my head (and believe me, I am definitely admitting this could be completely wrong) I believe that a lot of times the UK gets things prior to us.

Oh I can see it !

1860 was trying to refer to the civil war and how it divided families :(

Ooops. Sorry. History was NOT my strong point. :(

I'm still not sure how I feel about the implementation of the on screen buttons. From the bottom of the phone to the top of the navigation bar seems like it is almost an inch before you get to usable screen. It makes the phone look a little lopsided in landscape mode and renders the phone 4.3" for 90% of my usage. I think it would have been better if they could have figured out a way to get the screen to go all the way to the bottom and then put the on screen buttons on the bottom of the phone.

Unless you want to constantly interact with the screen while holding the phone, some sort of bezel is required. Extending the screen all the way to the top or bottom of the phone makes it difficult to hold securely in landscape.

Good morning G'nexers.

Not sure if this quote was posted before, but it just worries me a little bit.

Yeah, not sure what to make of statements like these. I've read a couple articles saying the same thing, but I have not been able to find a direct quote (from an authority figure). I wonder (hope) if it's author's interpretation since no one else has stepped forward? IDK. We'll see, I guess. I genuinely thought that the leaked MAP's from Verizon showing the G-Nex on the 10th would be the absolute latest we'd see the device. HTC is doing their big announcement which is supposed to unveil the Rezound on the 3rd, and Verizon is noticably absent from that unveiling (AFAIK), which to me would indicate they are trying to squeeze some attention away from G-Nex preorders which I really thought would be going down that day. In my head, I thought Verizon would give this weekend to the RAZR and we'd hear something Monday or Tuesday about G-Nex preorders. Crossing my fingers, toes, hair strands, etc.....

Why does this concern keep coming up? I swear I've seen this talked about at least half a dozen times now. Romparoo is correct in that in what he said. As long as we get sufficient storage space we should be fine with flashing ROMs. This was done on the XOOM and im sure othere devices too prior to SD Support. What they will most likely do is have a partition of some sort that doesn't get wiped in a factory reset. I'm not too worried about the lack of an SD slot as long as we get the 32 GB version (Fingers Crossed) although, I would have preferred it.

I want to kill kittens too....did you all hear about the January 14th release date?:eek:

I may look calm, but in my head, I've killed you three times already. :D

**I kid, I kid....don't call the forum po-po on me!
