***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

really, would anyone be surprised at a Black Friday release?! i wouldn't be surprised at all...

The problem with that theory is, Verizon would have to recognize/admit that the GNex will drive in-store business, and actually advertize it as such... Flys in the face of what is the accepted hypothesis here that VZW is not a big fan of this phone.

Until we hear anything official from Verizon, i'm going with Steven's source. The 17th it is.

but why go with his source when it's just as unofficial as the telegraph report?

Bottom line, it could be released on December 31st and VZW would not have been caught in a lie.

PS....I wish they would release all 3 phones on the same day that way people can choose what they want. Talk about a huge day for VZW...but that will never happen.

I could definitely see Verizon worrying about massive phone returns of the Rezound and RAZR if they launch the Nexus within 14 days of those two, and delaying it as such. Corporate screw the consumer for .01% margin thinking to the max, which is why I could see it out of Verizon...

I seriously doubt they will do a black friday release. I talked to a cs rep in a local store about a week ago about this possibility, and he said they did this a year or two ago with a premier phone and it was an absolute disaster; and that corporate vowed they would never have a release on black friday again. If it doesn't come the 17th, there's a possibility it could come weekdays before Thanksgiving, but nearly a 0 percent chance of on Thanksgiving or black friday.

Although I don't like it, I have to agree with this. They announced the Bionic as coming "This Summer" and didn't announce it until 1 day before release, with 2 weeks of summer left.

i sorta agree, and still think VZW views the GNex as the red-headed step child. but, it has to be aware of the demand for the device (at least from the dev'r and enthusiast groups), and is also aware that Google and Sammy will mkt the device. as long as they can use that to get people in VZW stores, they can then push people to the RAZR and Re-*gag*... i bet vzw will have some Black Friday deals for its "preferred" phones going on then.

My concern would be the "stickiness" of the pad overtime. No matter how careful you are, it'll get dirt, hairs, dust all over it. Can it be washed and restored to it's original state, or do you need to buy a new pad.

Also I'd love to see the insurance claims when your phone smashes into a hundred pieces, they'll tell you yo go -blam- yourself.
Quick FYI on this--the guys behind it said they tested through 4000 cleaning cycles with no degradation in performance. Since it has been demonstrated with a GNex like back, should be something worth looking into.

Are you thinking the Capta guys would tell you to go away, or the insurance company in general? I've had my phone bounce out of a supposedly secure mechanical mount more than once, not including all the times I've fat fingered it onto the floor. Not sure that would have any impact on a claim.

At this point i don't even care what the release date actually is. However what annoys me if not even having a release date set. Sick of waiting for just the info it self. :(

Can someone enlighten me on what an "OG Droid" is? I guess I watch too much Sons of Anarchy, because it makes me think it's an "Original Gangster" Droid. :p

LMAO! I always think the same thing (even though I did know it was Original Generation)

What irritates the crud out of me is that they know it'll sell fairly well but because it doesn't have their garbage on it they don't feel it's necessary to let anyone know anything about the dates and such.
Uuuuggghhhhh. Ok - I'm done ranting now.

Posts deleted on goat you know what. Absolutely none of that, ever again. Previous mod warning was for something else.

SMH - srsly gang, I expected hijinx for Halloween, but please go a little easier here.

Cheers, thanks.

Agree 100%. Black Friday is an orgy of shopping over a 5 hour period. Grab and go big screen TVs and printers, but not phones in store that will require individual sales people touching each one. Small electornics require waaaaayy too much touch labor for inventory control (anti theft). Besides, they would just get lost in the shuffle of all the bright shiny objects for sale.

I'm also thinking the margin on phone hardware aint so great the carriers could really afford to take a huge bath. Yeah, they make it back over the two year contract, but not right away. Be interested if anyone has any data on that sort of thing.

There is someone on this forum who first referred to his Droid as "OG" and he did indeed mean "Original Gangster". Proof is in the Droid forum; I do remember reading about it.

Heck, I'd be happy if they'd even at least confirm the 32GB version will be coming to Verizon and give a price point. I've got the RAZR on preorder now, but am keeping a serious eye on GNex as I have from the beginning. Preorders can always be cancelled or phones eBay'ed, but I definitely am about done with my Droid 2.

I think we're all sick of the wait.

Not a good week for us Gnexers news-wise.

Yeah, I just feel like we are kind of floating in space somewhere. Feel a little detached from the hype after being so excited for two weeks straight with all the news and leaks that were coming at us.

Probably, but if that info matched up to anything their other sources have said, they'd have mentioned it.

And they hear lots of things. Like that it was going to be called the Nexus Prime. And that it was coming out November 3. And November 10. And November 17.

It's all BS until Verizon announces it.

Correct.

End of thread below, thank you for your participation.

i've always used it in the Original Gansta sense - Original Generation sounds, well, too geeky... :)

I am trying to be optimistic. As far as I can tell, Verizon started pre-orders for the Razr about a week after it showed up on their site, I am kind of hoping that will be the case for the Nexus. Does anyone know if there is any consistency with time between a "sign up for information" page and pre-order/release times? I am even seeing Verizon ads for the phone on Yahoo when I search for Galaxy Nexus. Keeping fingers crossed for some good news this week!
