***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Supply problems are never a good sign. Could be another droid inc situation all over again.

If he says it's the screen, it's going to be the Incredible all over again. Pre-order, or you have to wait 3 months to get it.

It doesn't sound like good news.

At this point I'll take any concrete news. I won't be happy if it's gonna be like the Inc again BUT it would be news. I am trying to look at this from "Glass 1/2 Full" perspective.

Did anyone else just do a happy dance to hear that there is SOMETHING new to tell??!!
I am guessing the supply problem is they would rather supply us with the RAZR and Rezound....

If Google wanted to release Gnex in the states first. Do you really think they would be ok with VZW pushing it back so it wouldn't cannabalize their sales? I don't think so, if VZW tried to do this, I would think they would give the phone to other carriers who would love to release it ASAP(GSM version). Because well you want to get your product out there.

I will NOT be happy paying full price for Nexus. Especially since my Verizon bill will be exactly the same whether I'm subsidizing a phone or not. No discount for paying full price!

I think the vast majority of us would rather subsidize it over two years, especially if we're paying the same amount.

Sorry, I meant full price as in $299 subsidized price with no Holiday discount. Not full price as in $600 full price. I wouldn't be anywhere near happyville with that either.

In case it is like the Incredible...how do preorders for phones work? I haven't ever preordered one before. If I am using my NE2 upgrade, then will there be an option for that while preordering it that will provide the Nexus with the 2 year contract price?

I wonder if supply problem = inaccurate demand estimate. They ordered what they thought they would sell, but the twitter attack informed them they were WAY off, and are now aware they woefully underestimated.

Do I think they'd be ok with it - No. BUT if there was an agreement signed to give VZW exclusivity then it may have everyone's hands tied. We have no way of knowing what that agreement actually said and how much wiggle room for release dates and such there is.
All speculation on my part.

Thanks for clarification!

My guess: Verizon kept Samsung/Google in limbo as to when Verizon wanted to release the phone because of wanting to get the Razr out there since it is their DROID branded phone. Samsung/Google said screw you, we're going to release it elsewhere first, hence the removal of the "Exclusively" tag on the Verizon web page. Now Verizon sees the demand and realizes as many want it as the Razr and there is a group that won't buy anything but the Nexus and they now want their supply. Samsung/Google now are telling Verizon they don't have enough for them since they are releasing it elsewhere first and Verizon is screwed and having to wait on a secound round of shipments which may not come till December.

That's my guess.

Verizon's is different (LTE), so its not as simple as moving stock from one market to another. And since the conflicts arose late in the game, I would have to think its not an issue of Samsung shortchanging the LTE version's numbers from the get-go.

Hadn't really thought of this before I read your post, but as I finished reading this post a ringer went of in my head with the whole we have a winner stuff to go along.

Supposed "Common Knowledge" is that Nexus is only a low volume developer and enthusiast oriented device line and not intended to sell well. I have always maintained though that the only reason that has been the case is because primary network has ALWAYS been the lowest subscriber nationwide network. The fact Nexus has always been primarily a T-Mo device and then Sprint with the S long after T-Mo has been the ONLY thing holding it back. Sure AT&T got them as they were always compatible, but not sure AT&T ever sold it in their stores or put a lot of effort into making sure all retailers could offer it on subsidy. Verizon actually being the primary launch network changes the whole demand side, but was probably not really the expectation even though I would consider that expected with the completely different subscriber base size compared to T-Mo. Also, they probably figured the awesome hardware of the RAZR and other option in the Rezound would help keep interest in the Nexus contained, but have now realized Rezound and RAZR interest in minimal compared to Nexus and are having to adjust orders to this unexpected share of sales change from expectations.

well my upgrade date was originally Nov 18th,

sure enough 1st of the month came and is not eligible now !! Not sure if that was how it always has been or not but im happy.

Now I just need some info on the SGN :(

I dont even care if I have to buy it directly from google , ill just upgrade to a 4s and sell it then purchase the phone outright.

pleaseeeee just give me some info att / samsung / google

What I'm saying is maybe Samsung was supposed to begin manufacturing the LTE version for Verizon and Verizon kept saying "Hold on, we're not ready. We've got to promote the DROID Razr" So Samsung kept waiting and finally said, "Screw this, we're going to manufacture the HSPA+ version because we have carriers that want them NOW!" So that's what Sammy did. Now the manufacturing line is pumping out HSPA+ versions and not Verizon LTE versions.

Sidebar, but I trust you all so I'm going to ask...
In my wing at school of my coworkers come to me to help them with their android phones, because they know I like this stuff (whether I can help them is another story, haha) but today a coworker with a Charge needed help, her battery is all of a sudden dying in half a day when she was able to get a day...any help there would be great, BUT that's not my real question...

Please tell me that the NEXUS will be SO MUCH better than this phone!!! The build feels awful and the screen is terrible, but that may be the protector she has on it. I'm so used to my old INC's screen and now my TB that this one feels terrible! Was the charge known for having a bad screen? Thanks, all. Like I said, it is off topic, but I tried to tie it in by relating it to the phone we are all waiting for.

Yeah. This has to be more related to what VZW estimated for initial launch sales of the Nexus as a share of the three phones they planned to release. And if I am not mistaken they may have even had an LG in the mix at one point that now seems gone. So they were planning on pushing holiday upgrades with 4 phones and guestimated some split based on how they figured the 4 would stack up to the sorts they have with upgrades and got it wrong and dropped one device. So now you have 3 major devices only and a pre-order already started on the RAZR that is probably not as hot as they expected and they are realizing they are going to need WAY more Nexus to satisfy demand. They probably KNOW Rezound isn't going to be hot, but want to get it's release out of the way just to see how it does and have good feel for who is left that is waiting on Nexus.

If I was them I would have just ordered a surplus of all the devices with no promises of further orders until post launch, launched them ALL at once, and then decided sustained share based on launch sales numbers. That would make sense though and not only that 2 of the devices have the whole VZW software complication that could make a unified release window VERY difficult for three devices.

Must be her screen protector. My wife's Charge is not quite as sharp as my OG Droid of course, but is PLENTY sharp and the contrast and blacks are WAY better. My OG probably has better color accuracy, but her Charge's over saturated colors do give her the impression her phone has a better screen. If it seemed to lack sharpness that is the screen protector and I have had cheap screen protectors on my OG Droid that did do that and I had to go without them.

she may just need a new battery. batteries are only designed with a life of 6-8 months. many people's batts are good for longer than that, but if it starts failing after 6+ months, it's no surprise.

as for whether the GNex will be "better" than the Charge hardware-wise - probably, but no one can tell you for sure. besides, no one can tell you what your personal preferences are - you'll just have to try it out for yourself and see if it matches your needs. that's what i'm gonna do...

:eek::eek:

I'm driving in the car and can't talk much now. However, I do have news. There is a supply problem. I'll go into more that later. When I can post.

, I'll share the specifics in about a half hour or 40 min. when I get to computer.

You just love to torture us with tasty little morsels like this, don't you!?

"Hey, guys, I've got some news, but can't tell you right now. Just stew for a bit, and I'll post it soon. Stew, little minions...steeeeew."

Yes, her protector is making her screen appear smudged and every oil that is on your finger creates a rainbow. Thank you. I feel better.

Literally LOL'd at this. Cause it always reminds me of the t-shirts/bumper stickers:

My theory is this....
1) VZW does have some sort of US exclusive. I think it's pretty obvious because of the silence from all other carriers about this phone and them treating it like it doesn't exist. Verizon did this to get more customers away from the other 3 carriers, not to sell any specific phone. It's like in college recruiting, some colleges recruit a kid not so he can play, but so he doesn't play anywhere else. I don't think it is a coincidence that no other carrier is getting to sell a phone with an HD screen before the holidays.

2) It doesn't make sense about the 16 GB being the only version being sold in europe??? The reason i say this is isn't storage pretty cheap these days, why not offer a 32 GB model and charge $75 more dollars for it while only paying $20 to make the product. Seems like a pretty good profit to me. Hell, apple has been doing this for a while. What I am getting to here is are there any other phones out there with 32 GB of "on board" storage besides the iphone??? Is there a chance that they are having some hardware issues here???
